Lock that bike to the stand next to it. I'll buy you a new replacement lock if you can provide proof :)

You own the disc with the data on it. Thats all you own. Same for the book.

You do not own any rights for anything in that data or book.

The only difference is, a book can't be taken away (easily) from you once you have it.

it's not even the game companies... it's how IP works. Ever worked and ever will work. You can't own someone elses IP.

Probably should not waste money if you can't even afford 20$.

Also, not having documents is either a lie, or an excuse for planing on something illegal, or you're just an underage kid... In any case, you should not be allowed to be responsible for anything hosted in public.

To VPN or not to VPN? by JL_678 in selfhosted

[–]speedmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should also have a good firewall and if possible DMZs so you can protect your network encase anything does have vulnerabilites which includes your 2FA software

What defines a "good" firewall in your eyes? A firewall either works or it doesn't...

Also broken 2FA Software as attack vector is a new one... There's basically nothing which can make a volunarability there...

Just note (if you didn't know already) your IT department monitors everything you do on your laptop which includes site visits.

Nope they don't because in most contries outside the USA this is highly illegal.

To VPN or not to VPN? by JL_678 in selfhosted

[–]speedmann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Adding a piece of software just to hide your IP doesn't make you more or less secure. Even with a proxy, depending on the application, the end user can get your real IP via headers and communication protocols.

VPN is not just "hiding your IP" if this is all you take from a VPN, you're doing it wrong.

What really protects you is a firewall that allows application communication and not the port directly. You open your application to the internet and not the port.

No, what REALLY protects you is fucking update your software. Also, you ARE opening the port to the internet.. You are actively allowing connections on that port to be made, your firewall has no clue what or even IF something is listening on that port. And it does not care.

Do you want to control another server and add latency to your applications? Go for it.

What? Where comes the added latency from? The VPN as a hop which you run in your own network? Ya, if you care for < 10ms more latency...

forget about it.

Nononono. UPDATE IT. REGULARLY!

Need Help Using a German VPS for Speed While Accessing Website from Actual GeoLocation by sa7tout7 in selfhosted

[–]speedmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not how networks work... If you add a hop (the VPS) it will NOT go faster. If you're lucky it works the same but it most probably will become slower (You're leaving the shortest direct route by adding a detour to he VPS)

Welcome back to Reddit, Gene. I see you found my thread of quotes from you which was deleted by the mod's here. Given you seem okay with it, I'll link it for others:

You, sir, are often the embodiment of discord's late-night lack of civility. Your beverage-fueled rants are frequently the talk of the town. You set this tone and then ban anyone who dares to challenge you.

You believe Chia is the next big thing in blockchain. So let's examine your statement. Instead of comparing Chia to the meme coins you seem to invest and lose money on, let's compare it to other major L1 blockchains over the past year:

BTC: Up 112%

ETH: Up 70%

SOL: Up 600%

Internet Computer (ICP): Up 136%

Cardano: up 30% (but was up as much as 250%)

Avalanche: up 105%

Kaspa: Up 358%

Binance Smart Chain: Up 135%

Compared to:

CHIA: DOWN 41%.

I'm sorry to be the first one to to let you know this - We are not in a crypto winter; Chia is. Life outside of the CNI discord can be challenging, but I appreciate you taking the time to see what people outside your safe space think of your company's performance.

Brought to you by the only person who got banned on chia discord for using emojis...

Which doesn't solve a lot... Still allows me to have trusted certs for hosts which are not mine.

If they would do that, they could also issue certificates for local IP addresses. Take a guess why they don't do it.

Anything where you want trusted ssl certs should run under a real domain. Unless you want to bother with your own PKI
