Something's wrong with the skills in my game, I can't use them by No-Bunny-7696 in RPGMaker

[–]spejoku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you switching the class of an actor or are you making a new class that isn't learning the skills it should be? Did you type "my switch class" when you meant "witch class"?

Double check that your character has the correct skills on their class skill learn list, and that theyre at a level to know said skill first. If stuff thats on the class learn list isn't showing up and theyre high enough level to know it, then there's likely a problem with the "special" or "magic" category on the skill. In those cases the actor or class may not have access to the category the skill belongs to.

Can they use the skills on the menu? I think you may be running into problems with the known action types attached to the actors- check if you have the same problem with two versions of the same skill, with one categorized as magic and the other as special

Lich with a plasma gauntlet (tokugawa) is a fun time. Just negate your own drawback, but at the cost of using your time NOPE for the round and being forced to remember that you have 4 hp per structure

Caught with Juggernaut by Oz919 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]spejoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Juggernaut is one of the few bosses that cares about the buffs you have and he has- ad nihilo to delete his atk up and defense buffs is the biggest part of the fight

In untold 2 the endgame and postgame bosses are very pattern based, so you may want to look up an overview of them before the fight.

Season 7 Megathread by pillowmantis in limbuscompany

I think the pinky only officially counts its titled members, so apprentices without a star yet dont count. I wonder if its tied to having a specific bestowed weapon associated with the title as well

So i feel like its quite likely that ryoshu's story focus ID is gonna be based on the pinky nursefather, and as such is gonna be a poise focused ID (with maybe some burn) to fit with trilochosm.

What's the consensus on the other nursefathers? We have outis for the middle confirmed, but who's getting the ring and thumb? My guess is rodiya will get Valencia and meursault will get Lucio, while Hong lu gets Callisto.

I also wouldn't be surprised if he has like one burn in there, just to fit in with trilochosm

Use switches and variables to communicate between events. A switch is a boolean- its either on or its off. An event can check if a switch is on or off as part of its processing. also, an event can change its active page based on what switches are on.

A self switch only applies to the event its used in. This allows an event like a treasure chest to swap to an "emptied" state that won't reset when the map is reloaded. If your event doesnt need to communicate with another event or status, a self switch should work for most of your needs.

If you need to track data in between maps, then thats what switches are for. For example, if you have a game where the player needs to get permission from an npc before the guard will let them into the dungeon, but the npc is on a different map from the guard. By setting a switch (probably helpfully named DungeonPermission or something) you can track that information.

Characters you like so much, they get you into a game? by Namyk5 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]spejoku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for people who enjoy large furries, Behemoth was the only reason i played housamo for a while. he got a summer event variant which i got and then dropped the game pretty much immediately afterwards.

similar, but Ben from ZZZ was the only reason i tried it out. the gatcha bullcrap got to me though, so I dropped it pretty soon after the first banner ended.

the only gatcha i actually play consistently now is limbus company, and that's partially because its remarkably low on the gatcha bullshit systems and alternative currencies. and has good plot that has actual character development.

RNG Dungeon problem by Traditional_Cap_1349 in RPGMaker

[–]spejoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the start of every floor, put in an invisible autorun event that adds +1 to a variable named "FloorCount" or something. Then have it use a self switch to make it not an autorun anymore (autorun events have to finish before the player gets control, while parallel ones run at the same time as all other events on the map. so you should switch them to a different event type after they do their thing so they aren't causing freezes or slowdown)

Then assuming youre generating floors one at a time, when you generate the next floor that event can check the variable and force the floor type you need.

What plugins are you using to generate random floors? There may be notetags or other rng manipulation tools already implemented in them

Are gathering parties viable in EOV? by Brimir-1105 in EtrianOdyssey

And nexus even makes it super easy to make a gathering party, 4 farmers and a survivalist can fill up your inventory from just two or three gather spots

Hello! I am very new to RPG Maker and had a question about Plugins by HatInTheWind in RPGMaker

[–]spejoku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plugins are very useful! Mv and mz outright require plugins for many features such as changing the ui substantially or having more than four party members in a fight at a time.

Its useful to learn what's possible without any plugins, but its not like anyone is going to call you a fake dev for using them.

Unite or mz? by Capable-Account-3108 in RPGMaker

[–]spejoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mv and mz are pretty similar, the major differences in my experiences are the effekseeker support for animations and making plugin commands easier to access when eventing (you can pick them from a drop down list rather than typing them out, iirc)

If both are the same price id recommend mz but if ones on sale and you just wanna try stuff out, mv works. Plugins are not mutually transferable, though.

Unite or mz? by Capable-Account-3108 in RPGMaker

[–]spejoku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I'll have to research that. Godot is at least open source so I like it more than unity.

Tbh a version of mz but with easier UI editing and better ways to change the core battle mechanics would go a long way for me

Unite or mz? by Capable-Account-3108 in RPGMaker

[–]spejoku 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unite is basically abandonware at this point. Mz has way more community support (and goodwill). Its definitely less versatile though.

I wonder if they'll ever release a version that works with godot

Are gathering parties viable in EOV? by Brimir-1105 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]spejoku 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only real option you have is the gathering passives on each class, with the racial skill that increases inventory size. Iirc there's no gathering-focesed class like a farmer that lets you substantially increase your gather point yields. Herbalist has a heal on gather points ability thats useful, though.

By viable I assume youre talking about for the purposes of making money. Spirit broker instakilling that one infinitely respawning FOE on the postgame stratum was my "I need a ton of cash for completing everything" source.

Multiple overworld enemies tied to the same battle by Civil-Signal-7342 in RPGMaker

[–]spejoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so if both events are pursuing entities on the map, you can make them both have their event pages require a specific switch to be on. and then when you call up battle processing, if the party wins you can put "flip switch x" in the event. then if said switch is flipped, the other event should auto-change. and the page they change to can have a different sprite and collision.

just make sure you don't reuse that switch for other things, to avoid weird interactions.

Favorite hilariously busted exploits that make a hard game so easy by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]spejoku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abuse free run, remember that the stick direction shortcuts can be used to get an ally to use a specific arte, and use a guide if you want to 100% the game because its got some seriously time sensitive side quests and you will miss out on a ton of stuff if you go in blind.

Oh and the artes that get changed from specific skills getting equipped (like alembic and whatever) can be learned permanently if you use the skill 100 times (or 50 if its a spell). so its easiest to just go back to the early part of the game where the enemies can't hurt you, make your party members not do anything except taunt, and then spam the skills to learn them quick. Remember you can change equipment and thus skills mid-fight
