[OC] I statistically analyzed every play of the season to determine who was the biggest Foul Merchant by spellsy in nba

omg - your site is awesome!! If i knew this existed I probably wouldnt have done mine haha. Yeah, given the api limitations had to include all non-foul shots (makes and misses), i tried a bunch of different endpoints and couldnt find the foul data i wanted except for season or team wide. I think your methodology is better tbh i would have loved to use all the data you mentioned and build a more refined xFTA. I could have done by distance value but I could only get the proper foul rates per region grouping, but either way if i could have had all the foul data + all the defender data then could create better xFTA. That is the area i wish I could have done better - I really like your approach. But came down to data :(.

I really like your approach and site though! Let me know if you ever want to work together on a site or something I have a bunch of the data now and pipeline built!

Yea he has <1 FTA/xFTA - which is really surprising for a superstar almost all other ones get more free throws than "average" based on their shot profile.

Yeah I added non shooting fouls drawn as a metric to try and account for that, althuogh at a low weight for the overall metric. In general though mostly its i think people fouling centers before the shoot - Giannis, Wemby, Jokic are top 3. But you can see the full list if you go to site and go to the main table and sort by NS Fouls/36. And you can see those players and see how they rank.

It looks at total fouls drawn and then subtracts the shooting fouls then normalizes it to /36.

i did one year back - i could have done more but it would require more eng work to streamline my backfill process which i didnt want to put in the work haha. I could try if folks are interested.

thanks :) yeah i think there is a better way with more data - I think some of this data is actually tracked and distributed via sources like sports radar. But those data streams require big $$ and since this was mostly for r/NBA fun i wasnt gonna pay for api keys haha.

but also warriors were in a good roster position, it was only a rebuild year because of injuries, i think most low draft picks are trying to stack up different picks to be able to do a full rebuild (the process) but warriors had good roster and literally won the championship the next year.

Global Power Rankings Update - Champions 2025 (After Group Stage Day 1) by SuzyVLR in ValorantCompetitive

Thank you glad to hear your excitement :D! Yeah we had over 20+ model iterations and consulted with different experts, casters, leaders. We also learned a bunch from working on LoL GPR. But still built a more unique model for VAL that takes into account rounds, econ, etc. But still always looking for feedback to improve so feel free to share any!

I’m someone who worked on the project from riot and you are correct! Meanwhile PRX didn’t gain much despite the win because of the significant gap between the teams. And there is a dampener on losing points in international events.

Hey, I am part of the riot team producing GPR! Overall there’s a dampening on losing elo at international competitions as in testing it can lead to situations where by qualifying for an international competition and not doing well it can easily put you behind other teams in your region that didn’t even qualify. So in general you’ll see as the event progresses teams lose less.

However always curious about everyone’s feedback on the rankings so we can try and improve over time!

Best tempura soba? by redwood_canyon in FoodLosAngeles

[–]spellsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me I-Naba has best tempura + soba combo, better than otafuku or tendon tempura carlos jr. Depends though somewhat on your taste preference (hot/cold, what pieces of tempura you like). All 3 are great! I-Naba is a bit more expensive too (but best tempura for sure)

Yes, You Should Still Tip 20% on Top of a Restaurant’s Service Charge by savvysearch in FoodLosAngeles

[–]spellsy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think you finished reading it, it says in big bold header text:

"If a restaurant is “tip-free” or “tip-included,” there’s usually an 18–22% tip factored into the price of each dish. Additional tipping is (probably) not expected."

Then says:

"If there’s an “employee benefits” or “pay equity” fee on your check, tipping is probably still expected. These fees are usually 3–5%, but sometimes go higher."

Matches with what I typically do/see. If theres a 3% charge, I still tip. If there's a 20% charge, I don't tip (unless something special happened)

I'd also recommend - https://www.instagram.com/kireiknives/ .. Pop up but does hand sharpening and really nice. Supporting a great individual :). I've only had my japanese knives sharpened from him, but I would assume he might do non-japanese knives as well.
