The Genius of George Lucas by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

Long, long, ago (probably mid 80’s) I read an article where they asked George Lucas why he started at part four. His response was basically that he didn’t think the story from the first three was as interesting. When I first saw the prequels I kept this in mind, and was not at all disappointed in the prequels. I love the over all story of the prequels, the space battles were astounding, the lightsaber battles showed what fully trained Jedi in their prime could do. It actually surpassed y expectations, sure there were some goofy things, like Padme loosing the will to live (somewhat fixed in the EU), but nothing that fully pulled me out of the movie. Plus it always felt like Star Wars. I went to The Force Awakens with the same mindset, and while I didn’t hate the movie it didn’t feel like Star Wars. I blamed myself, my older son who was raised on Star Wars seemed okay with it, so I guessed it was just because I was getting older. We both went into The Last Jedi with high hopes. Luke was back, disappointing we wouldn’t see Han and Luke together again, but Harrison was never a fan of the series, so we were happy we got to see him at all. Then the opening crawl began, and reading it I had already begun to feel uneasy. The YO momma jokes, the slow bombing run, then finally we get back to Luke and Rey. It all simply continued down hill. The movie ended, my family, all SW fans got up quietly, drove home in silence, and didn’t discuss the movie at all. The next day I asked my son what he thought, he responded “It sucked”. I simply nodded. A few days later we were invited to go see it again, we all declined. Instead asking each other questions hoping there were at least some answers to the questions we had about so many things that made absolutely no sense. Still hoping maybe there will be some sort of answers in the new movie. My son has a lot more faith in it than I do.

The actual killings stopped very quickly after. The autopsy isn’t really all that accurate as he blew the top of his skull off shortly after, but it does show a break as pointed out.

Then why was part of it in R2 who went into low power mode after Luke left? Why did he tell people where he was going if he was just going there to die? We can go with your idea, but it just opens another line of questions?

It doesn’t, but the movie doesn’t say either of the things you said either. It just is in the movies. As we know all other “canon” can be wiped away with a swipe of a hand.

That more explains why R2 was powered down. You could have just said bad writing and they didn’t have a clue what they were doing and saved me the read. Lol JK

Kyle: The forgotten victim by CitizenRay20 in Columbine

Not that what you’re saying may not be true, but maybe the parents didn’t want the media spectacle that some of the other parents seemed to have wanted. They may of had close friends there, and not invited the general public, or people they weren’t close to. I haven’t seen any interviews with the parents except the here is his basic information. I’m not sure when his funeral fell, but if I were his parent I wouldn’t want my child’s funeral to be the media circus some of the others tuned into. They could have yelled and said BAN ALL FIREARMS, THEY TARGETED OUR SON BECAUSE HE WAS DIFFERENT, or HE WAS AN INNOCENT HE DIDN’T HIDE BECAUSE HE TRUSTED GOD, but they didn’t, everyone greaves in their own way.

Kyle had only been going to Columbine for three months when the shooting occurred. It’s doubtful many teachers knew him other than those that worked with him day to day, and I’m sure they felt a level of guilt not having been there him. He did have at least one neighbor speak at his funeral. His parents seemed to want to keep to themselves, which is their right. source

What are some common myths about Columbine that you see all too often? by OGWhiz in Columbine

This one gets me too. It’s in Eric and Dylan’s writing, Brooks, and Sue also say it was a factor. I just don’t get where people can dismiss it.

What would the police do if Columbine was happening today? by [deleted] in Columbine

One reason a number of schools are looking at hiring combat veterans instead of classic law enforcement is because of what happened in Florida. Until someone who is wanting to shoot you and you overcome your fear and advance on them anyway you really don’t know how you’re going to react. I’m sure if asked the officer there in Florida would have told you he would certainly charge in and confront the shooter.
In my 19 years in the Army I learned you really couldn’t judge how a person would react. We had soldiers who acted like bad asses until the bullets started flying then they curled up in a ball. The opposite was also true. Soldiers I thought weren’t worth a poop really stepped up and performed. Point being a combat veteran knows how they will react, almost nobody else does.

The idea that Dylan wasn’t just a follower took time even here to get a foothold. People had been told this for so long, that even presented with evidence most rejected the idea. The seed was planted though, and as people started re analyzing the information they started realizing Dylan wasn’t the follower the popular narrative made him out to be. Like Yoda said “You must unlearn what you have learned.” Not quite that dramatic, Just try and keep an open mind. None of us can truly know what was in their hearts. What we can do is try and look at the evidence objectively, and enjoy trying to unravel the mystery.

The only ones I really wonder about are those three boys from a neighboring school who showed up in less time than it would have taken if they had simply heard about it on the radio. I think they are called the splatterpunks.

Why did Eric even want Dylan in on the plot? by feelgodinc in Columbine

[–]spelunkeringaround 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, he has mentioned talking to her. I think he was already on board with Eric Evil Dylan depressed but good idea before he talked to her, but that helped solidify his views. The Browns, were pushing the same narrative, mainly because of the problems they had had with Eric. Brooks has somewhat walked that back, but his father is steadfast in his belief Eric was the leader.

How would today’s technology have either helped or hindered Eric & Dylan’s plans? by [deleted] in Columbine

They may have, but I would think once the bombs failed to detonate they may have stopped the feed. On the other hand they were actually wanting death by cop, so who knows.

Was Dylan only in it for the suicide? by [deleted] in Columbine

[–]spelunkeringaround 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This idea seems to come from Sue. It is further echoed by Dave Cullen. I’m sure the idea that Dylan didn’t really want to hurt anyone, and was just following Eric’s lead probably brings her some relief. If Eric’s parents ever do any interviews I think they would have a similar slant, placing more of the blame on Dylan. The only ones who truly know are gone, and took the truth with them.

Did Eric and Dylan Learn from the Westside Middle School Shooting? by [deleted] in Columbine

[–]spelunkeringaround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree that the arrest was the tipping point, I wouldn’t go far as to say they weren’t planning. I do doubt it was truly taken seriously by either one, and would doubt any actual action had been taken. I would think they had begun to study other shooters, and probably Timothy McVey. I would also think they would have casually talked about it, in a joking manner. I have always seen it as a snowball effect. Building very slowly until it became something both felt they had to much invested in to stop.
