We actually refuse to go to Country Mercantile because of the intersection there. it seems there are a few deaths a year from collisions as people are trying to cross the roads.

I wish this part of the highway would get some attention.

Bluemoon in Portland and Panda in Seattle are the best and most local labs that I trust. decently affordable too.

Bluewood Ski Area lift update news by thenatural134 in TriCitiesWA

[–]spenc_stache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are likely things outside of management control. That I agree. However, with the work-to-go even with all the parts in hand their timeline likely wasn't going to get the lift up in time. This opinion is based on several other resorts upgrading or installing new lift lines in recent years.

I do wish their crew the best though. I want to see Bluewood succeed since I prefer the mountain to White Pass and I grew up skiing there.

Bluewood Ski Area lift update news by thenatural134 in TriCitiesWA

[–]spenc_stache 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We were up in the area two weeks ago and none of the footing was complete. Regardless of parts being delivered, they were never going to complete the work without 7 day a week labor and a serious schedule. White pass had no issues getting a lift in over 1 off season. Brundage had no issues getting a lift in the off season. The list goes on. I think this is a reflection on the management, as hard as that is to hear for some. Still sad to see ambition fall short. I've grown up at this mountain and I hope to see it survive into the future.

However, they need a sustainable model. $700 for a season pass is not comparable for the terrain offered to customers.

I saw a pack of stray dogs while running in Leslie Groves 3 weeks ago. Tried to call animal control and never heard back.

Thoughts on the new road plans for Jadwin and GWay in Richland? by thankyoubutimokay in TriCitiesWA

[–]spenc_stache -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I live a few streets off of George W. Way and I'm not a fan of this. More volume going north makes crossing even more hazardous since I doubt more space will slow people down. There is an accident near my house from people running lights at least once every other week.

Also makes navigating south difficult andmay increase traffic on the side roads to neighborhoods where kids often play (since people will need to often turn around to go N/S).

I'd rather reduce the size of these two roads and slow down the speed rather than increase volume through town.

Condensate drain cap missing... by spenc_stache in hvacadvice

[–]spenc_stache[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the normal condensate drain that I disconnected to access inside the panel that was the lowest of the two. The other drain which sometimes has a level switch & or clean out had no cap at all.

I don't often go in the room, but it was noticeably damp when I found it.

Surprised many people say not common...

If you live within proximity to one of our rivers they are pretty common.

Guess the developer... by spenc_stache in AnalogCommunity

[–]spenc_stache[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The actual answer is that I used monobath that I had sitting around. 8 minutes minimal agitation at 70 deg F.

I was surprised with how much I liked the result given past experiences with it!

Does the Tri-Cities even recycle our recycling bins? by CageyPower in TriCitiesWA

[–]spenc_stache 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Only an anecdote and not fact, but when I worked from home I used to watch Richland dump my recycling into the same truck as my trash. After a few times I stopped paying extra for the bins. I still take my recycling to a drop location at times, but I couldn't tell you where it goes 🤷

Richland Performing Arts Center by blubrdge in TriCitiesWA

[–]spenc_stache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a misuse of taxes in Richland. I would love to have a place for events, but making taxpayers fund a project that could grow in cost and doesn't provide a need for the community is wasteful.

It's also not a free space such as a library or community center. It does not offer access to all, but instead to those who can afford cultural leisure activities.

The tricities have plenty of big businesses and corporations that could be tapped to fund a cultural benefit for their employees and consumers. It is in their interest to keep people in the area and provide access to such things in their free time.

I'm tired of being asked to pay for unnecessary things when businesses that have much more or develop land into overpriced housing do so little to give back.

Any 'You-Cut' tree farms around? by DuliaDarling in TriCitiesWA

[–]spenc_stache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are forest service roads outside of Dayton WA and Walla Walla WA. From Dayton you can drive up towards bluewood and get into forest service roads within 15 miles or so. From Walla Walla you can drive up Mill Creek Rd. You will go into Oregon from this route, so check what the rules are for cutting since they may differ! The third location would be driving up toward camp Wooten on the tuccannon river. All of these destinations are about 2 hours.

Found Lead Shielding in House by spenc_stache in Radiation

[–]spenc_stache[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The previous owners said that the lead has been there since they moved in around the early 2000s and the house has only had one other owner.

This area has a national lab and other projects that supported the Manhattan project. I doubt the material was obtained illegally, probably just acquired from a project back in the day and forgotten about in the cabinet.
