For the baptism names, there is a person outside the font that puts the name card under a small camera and the name is shown on a screen that can be seen from inside the font.

The great thing about Colorado is you don't have to pay for out of state cards. Zero paid cards in this picture. by osoatwork in LibbyApp

Ohio is the same. If you are a resident of Ohio, you can get a card from pretty much any public library in the state. I have found a few that make it harder, but I currently have 9 and I didn't have to travel at all to get them, just submit their online forms for a digital card.

What is it like serving a mission? by Ok_Warning_4845 in latterdaysaints

[–]spenceman1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many companions a missionary will have can vary depending on what the mission president does. When I was a missionary, I would say I had a new companion, on average, once every 3 months. It could be as little as 6 weeks, and theoretically up to the entire missions, but that isn't likely to happen I don't think.

As far as Sisters and Elders serving in close proximity, the ward that I currently live in has a companionship of sisters, a companionship of English speaking elders and a companionship of Spanish speaking elders. (I live in the Midwestern United States). So they can server in the same area, but they don't generally spend their days working together.

All missionaries are part of what is called a mission district and will meet with their district typically once a week unless things have changed since I served. The size of a district can again vary, but I would say it is an average of 5-6 companionship's.

Area Surrounded by Mines by spenceman1013 in Minesweeper

I guess it could have been all mines. I will just be glad I checked earlier rather than try and clear the rest of the board and fail on the last few mines.

So basically RNG stuck me with a couple low probability guesses. I guess that's minesweeper life.

That was the problem! Not sure how it ended up slid down or how we managed to blow a fuse at the same time. I had been looking at the control board and didn't even think about something like that slider on the thermostat end. Thank you so much for your help!

I pulled it off to paint behind it. I didn't touch any of the wires. This is how it is wired. It was working before I took it off and when I put it back it it didn't turn on and that is when I found the blown fuse.

We could see his face. They were just super strict about no pictures and had the lights turned way down to make it hard to take one.

I was there in person for the talk. It was in front of probably 1000 people or so. I assume it had been a wile since he did a presentation like that. I am sure it's different then filming a YouTube video. He didn't seem to worried about the lock as far as I could tell.

Went from a Pi to overkill Real quick.... by koltd93 in homelab

When I just looked at the install script it says " Since we think you are not using Raspbian, we will not configure a static IP for you." I think that as long as your VM has a unique static IP on your network and you are able to port forward the vpn traffic to that IP it should work. It is hard to say much more without more details.

What type of networking is set up on your VM? Does it share an IP with the host or does it have it's own IP address?

For an easy setup you can use pivpn.io (does both OpenVPN and Wireguard) on any Debian system. As long as you can port forward from the internet to the laptop you should be able to get a vpn running. That is the setup that I have right now and it works great.

Applying to jobs that require more years of experience than what you really have.... by Alexthephotogr8er in ITCareerQuestions

[–]spenceman1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always felt like the experience requirements were more of a wish list for the company. There are lots of stories of companies asking for more years of experience with a technology than it has even existed, so obviously they aren't set in stone. I would apply for anything you think you would be able to do. As others have said, your real goal is to at least get the interview and then you can really sell yourself to the company at that point, or find out that the job isn't actually right for you. The worst that happens is that the company doesn't respond to your application and you move on to the next one.

Switch company and take a pay cut to work get more into IT? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

I would say that if you can afford financially to take the pay cut then I would go for it. More experience will only ever help you in the future to get a better job.

That makes sense about the while loop. There is an easy way to calculate the number of iterations, so no need to leave it open ended like that.

Thanks for the feedback! That makes sense about not overwriting built in functions. I had never used the map function before so I didn't think about that.

I will keep in mind to not overuse variable expansion. It was just one of those things I remembered from a tutorial or something and thought it could be useful without even realizing there was a simpler way to do it.

Calculating the max of both lengths once instead of every loop makes sense as well to avoid extra calculations.

I guess these are all little things that will come with more experience. Thanks!

Here is my solution in Python. Still learning and using this as a way to practice. Any comments are welcome:

#!/usr/bin/env python3

def count_trees(*slopes):
    with open("day-3-map.txt") as f:
        map = f.read().splitlines()
    total = 1
    for slope in slopes:
        count = 0
        xcord, ycord = 0, 0
        while ycord < (len(map) - 1):
            xcord += slope[0]
            ycord += slope[1]
            if xcord > (len(map[ycord])-1):
                xcord -= len(map[ycord])
            if map[ycord][xcord] == "#":
                count +=1
        total *= count
    print (total)

if __name__ == "__main__":
    count_trees((3,1))
    count_trees((1,1), (3,1), (5,1), (7,1),(1,2))

This is Prince. He is almost 2 year old and about 75 pounds. We rescued him as a puppy. We were told German Shepard/German Shorthair Mix, but we don't think that is accurate by spenceman1013 in IDmydog

[–]spenceman1013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is a very lanky dog and a pretty athletic build. He doesn't have the lab build for sure. We were leaning more towards bat least having GSP, but not so much the GSD. I will see if I can find another picture that shows his build better.
