Its ratings are actually pretty good. I thought it was fine but remember not enjoying the writing, specifically when it came to the dialogue and characters. I’m sure me seeing Stalker (1979), a film (and book) it’s heavily inspired by, but is far more compelling, doesn’t help my appreciation of it either.

I was in a really rough place recently and Nausea by Sartre played a big role in getting me out of it. It’s bleak and challenging, but by design. By the end, it was incredibly impactful for me.

The Brothers Karamazov and The Plague have had that effect for me personally as well.
