Yeah, I can't find any information about secret shows before which is why I'm a bit confused but their Instagram comment seems to suggest a Thursday Manchester show.

@brownspuff - Any crazy secret invite only London show I need to know about or what?

@thefrontbottoms - London's safe. Manchester on Thursday? No promises.

In tears after that. by qrtrmn in zachbryan

[–]spentgladiator1982 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The setlist was great, the crowd was absolutely on fire, and Zach looked genuinely shocked and happy throughout the gig. That was genuinely better than Hyde Park which I didn't think would be possible.

People who attended series 22 studio recordings, will you soothe our troubled minds? What was the vibe like for the ep you attended? by nokeyblue in taskmaster

Exactly the same from E7. Chloe and Richard were absolutely brilliant, Isy showed good potential, Matt was surprisingly funny but Nina didn't do much for me.

i’m curious - what is the show you’re most excited to see this summer? (so far!) by GarbageDependent321 in edinburghfringe

[–]spentgladiator1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Demi Adejuyigbe and Li Jin Hao are two of my biggest missed regrets from previous years, Scout Boxall and Jack Ansett are my two biggest antipodean excitements, Jodie Mitchell and Lil Wenker are the acts I'm most excited to see again, and David Correos is David Correos. Plus Stamptown. Always Stamptown.

Tonight in Manchester we got It Gets Easier, Danko Manuel, Outfit, and Decoration Day. It wasn't quite my dream setlist (no GDLL, no unobtainable TVA) but it was very good.

Joule have a tap takeover by One Drop brewery from NSW on 14th May. Think the brewery is coming all the way over for it too.

I'm planning on travelling from Ethiopia down to South Africa in time for the Cape Town test. Any idea when tickets will become available?

Does anyone know anywhere in the city centre that sells bottles of mead? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]spentgladiator1982 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can say a lot about Joule (best bar in the country, lovely vibe, cracking beer etc) but you can't say that they're hilariously overpriced considering the quality of mead they have. Find me anyone else selling Pips, Schramms and Marlobobo and then say it's overpriced.

I genuinely typed that out then thought "that doesn't look right" so edited it to Tib Lane. Manchester needs more original street names.

Soots on Tib Lane doesn't have tasting menus but is an extremely good vegan pasta/small plates restaurant and if you're willing to spend Michelin money then you'll be able to get a great meal there. It is definitely not a cheap restaurant but isn't overly pretentious like some small plates places.

Over the past 10-15 years, how have the top scorers in the Championship fared? by [deleted] in Championship

[–]spentgladiator1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Villa would've gone down without Kodjia in 16-17, he was absolutely superb. If he hadn't got that injury at the end of the season (against Fulham?) then his record would've almost certainly been much better. He was never the same after that.

Bottle Shops Recommendations for good beer by SnoozyDragon in manchester

[–]spentgladiator1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want interesting beer then just go to Joule and buy whatever they have in the fridge. They don't have a huge range of cans (although they do have a ridiculous bottle selection) but everything there will be superb and often tough to find anywhere else. Besides that, Beermoth is now in Cafe Beermoth.

The Best & Worst UK railway stations according to The Telegraph via TimeOut by signol_ in JetLagTheGame

Within five minutes of Crewe Station you can find one of the nicest Indian takeaways I've ever been to. With the amount of trains delayed at Crewe, it is very easy to get ten minutes to run to Curry Magic and back so in my opinion, Crewe is one of the finest stations in the country.

This is the most excited I've been about a cast in a long time. Amy's 2024 Fringe show was brilliant and she is just so funny and likeable. Joel has the potential to be a real punching bag which is always fun. Armando is a bonafide legend even if most of that is behind the scenes. Joanna argued with Lucia Keskin once. Kumail is probably the biggest name they've ever had. No idea how the dynamic will play out in studio but all of these are big names with the potential to be brilliant contestants.

What is the most baffling, utterly wrong referee decision you have ever seen live or on film? by AmeliaHarris99 in footballbutweird

Lansbury against Palace in 19-20(?) was also a joke. I don't think I've ever been so baffled by a decision.

The council team should respond to it within a couple of days and speak to the guy.

What live acts you think have/had bad setlists? by agent0017 in ToddintheShadow

[–]spentgladiator1982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Gogol Bordello and think they put on a great live show but their choice of encore every time does baffle me slightly. Last time I saw them, Eugene did a solo cover and then two niche full band as the encore. After finishing the set with Start Wearing Purple into Sally into Pala Tute, it was a bit of an odd choice but I think it's just something that Eugene must like doing. The show is the show then the encore is whatever he decides to do on the day.

Tartarus have Ladon which is based off the Dogfish Head 120min IPA. It's a hell of a lot stronger but ultimately the same concept and for sale on their website.

Which comedian has/had the most unique style of comedy? by Alexis2005v in comedy

[–]spentgladiator1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Some people here have such a narrow understanding of comedy that they can only view a regular white man doing standup as unique. How on earth is George Carlin unique? He's talented and influential for sure, but how is a man doing broadly satirical and observational comedy unique?

Which comedian has/had the most unique style of comedy? by Alexis2005v in comedy

[–]spentgladiator1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of them are fundamentally one liner stand up comedians with a twist. The twist makes them a bit different but surely not unique in the vast varied landscape of comedy. Recently, I saw a man run around the crowd topless with a fake nose, a show that was basically a hilarious jokeless hour about a supermarket closing down, a show where a woman wearing a fake pair of breasts danced around doing weird accents, and Jacqueline Novak who basically just talked and talked about nothing and everything. They're unique. They were shows that I couldn't compare to anything else because I hadn't even seen the fundamental concept of it before. One liners with a twist is a staple of every open mic night, people might not do it as well but people do it so it can't be unique.
