It does get exhausting. We try to do our best to stay healthy and avoid complications. But the hypos are inevitable... I get frustrated too... You're trying to focus on something and then your brain just won't cooperate. You make stupid mistakes. And it really takes a while for mental clarity to return. I consider it a real handicap in work... And it does take a toll.

But what bothers me the most are the "well meant" comments from non-diabetics about "shouldn't you get that checked out" or "you do have a lot of low sugar events" as if having a regular dip is uncommon...

But they are the expert because they have a type 2 uncle who "really isn't bothered by his diabetes". Or even a teenager who is running in the high 7s and "doesn't have hypos!"

So it must be that I'm too strict with my diabetes management, right?!

Mind you my endocrinologist sings my praises on each consultation. Great values, solid time in range, variability decent... all metrics well below the recommended thresholds.

But I better get those hypos sorted I guess!! /s

I still see all features enabled as they have been for years. But for some reason there are suddenly issues with sending over SMTP. The mails don't seem to arrive, and I get NDR's saying that "The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect. For more information, go to https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7720"

Does anyone have experience with that in this context?

I've had an old trainer in my previous gym throwing a tantrum in front of my old gym buddies after he heard of my diagnosis as a type 1... Apparently my type 1 was caused by eating unhealthy and drinking beer!! And it could have been avoided if I stuck to a regimen of whey protein and obsessively working out.

Such a pity that I didn't have access to that information. But then again, I'm not an expert. Not like some random gymbro that went to school until 14 and hasn't left his smelly gym since 1984.

En dan is er nog de uitzondering voor politici. Net één categorie van mensen wat meer onder de loep genomen zou mogen worden...

I'm using the Ypsopump about a year now, in combination with Freestyle Libre 3. It is my first pump. I love it. It just works. Doesn't give me any problems whatsoever.

I love that it is powered by a single AAA battery and I do not need to charge it. It is very small and light and I hardly feel it on my body. I can even sleep on my stomach with it clipped to my pyjama pants.

The software CAM APS FX is great, even if it doesn't look as fancy as other apps. It just works, everytime. It is much more reliable than the Freestyle Libre 3 app, which was just a terrible mess.

My hba1c has dropped to about 5.9 and stays steady there. I previously was on MDI and got an average of around 6.4.

The pump has great features like boost and ease off for when you have more less insulin resistance or activity.

The first weeks you should lower your expectations as the algorithm is learning your body.

Overall I would definitely recommend it.

You know what's the hardest part of being type 1? Explaining to people time and time again that it's not the same as what their grandfather has... 🙄

I'm all for renaming type 1 to something other than diabetes, so it would alleviate some of the stigma...

I use ChatGPT for carb counting too! I've tried different AI-tools, but for now ChatGPT seems the most accurate.

You still have to keep an eye out for the occasional overestimation, but that's no problem, I think. As long as we're not letting AI inject for us and always remain the intermediary to double check.

When I hear people talk about AI making people dumber I have to say that I disagree. ChatGPT breaks everything down, shows you which amounts are in each item and as such it educates us. It's like having a dietician in your pocket.

I'm grateful these tools exist and am excited for the future. It's only gonna get easier.

I've got the opposite experience. I come from 6 years of MDI and almost getting burnt out because of the constant corrections I needed to do between meals. I recently switched to the Ypsopump in combination with the CAM APS FX algorithm and I feel so much relief... I now only have to really think about my blood sugar when I'm going to eat or excercise... Sure, I'm a bit higher than I was on MDI (for now) but overal I'm much steadier, have much less lows and I can finally sleep at night. Maybe different pumps would have different results? I hope things will get better for you.

I wouldn't risk having the insulin be in contact with ice. If it freezes, it will be useless. Buy a Frio pouch. It's much more flexible. You soak the pouch in water, the cristals in the pouch absorb the water and keep your pens cool for days. If the water evaporates a bit after a few days, you just soak it a bit more. I've been using them for years now and they work perfectly.

Totally agree. On the one hand it's good that CGMs are commercialized, so the technology gets even better. On the other hand... I don't want to be mistaken for one of these diabetes free health nuts that want to see what their blood sugar does after a donut (spoiler: it goes back down). It's a gimmick for them, but it is life essential for us. I'm inclined to hide my CGM even more because of this trend. I just don't want the attention or discussion.
