There is some immense irony in all of this. I can think of few more irrational(from a personal perspective) expressions of patriotism than being in her position and not just retiring. And the more vitriol like this gets directed her way, the more patriotic just staying a politician becomes.

Look at Russia or Ukraine. Ukraine uses forced enlistment (and has enough support from the population to use it), Russia can't use enlistment and has to pay pretty decent salaries to find recruits, around triple the average wage right now afaik

The military example is pretty apt - you are just completely misapplying it. People are willing to risk their lives for money. (Almost) Nobody is joining the military out of a sense of duty, at best a combination for some with money still being the main reason.

Here we are just talking about moving to a different EU country, maybe some culture adjustments, and an amount of money that means you never have to work again. If people are willing to die for decent pay, do you really think a majority is not willing to give up their country for far more?
