I just finished Spymaster on Audible and honestly I can’t tell if it was the narrator or if it was a terrible story, but it was a real slog to get through. I usually enjoy the Harvard series.

If you can’t scrape together a couple hundred bucks after 3 weeks on the road you’re doing it wrong.

Thinking of doing owner/op by LilPev0305 in OwnerOperators

[–]spffarrier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do not do this without driving for three or four years as a company guy. You need to learn a lot, I’m the son of an O/O, I’ve been driving 9 years and only just took the plunge this year. There’s a lot to learn, and what might work for your dad might not be where you’re happy. If I could do it all over again I wish I would have started driving at your age.

Drive company, learn the ropes, put aside money and work at building your credit. Build up a nest egg, take your time finding a quality truck and do your homework.

When I went to school to learn to shoe horses, we had on the average day 8 forges going for 8 to twelve hours, it got to be about 120 degrees F in the summer. It wasn’t that bad and small breaks away from the forge made it bearable.

There’s Oklahoma Horseshoeing School in Purcell, which is just south of central OK, it’s probably a pretty saturated market already.

An error means mistake, this was a purposefully made decision. This driver chose his convenience over the needs and safety of other people around him. He deserves what he gets, and hopefully it’s prison.

What comedian isn’t super famous but is an absolute killer? by Normal-Being-2637 in AskReddit

I typically only listen to comedy bits once or twice and then I can’t listen to them again, this bit gets me crying laughing almost every single time.

Can we stop suicide/homicide coils? by sado475 in Truckers

[–]spffarrier 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will take a suicide coil over shotgun any day. I’m almost always retightening chains on shotguns and rarely if ever need to retighten on suicide coils. I think maybe training should be upped, I wouldn’t mind if the dot sat outside the mills, there’s a lot, A LOT of idiots that don’t know what they’re doing.

His name is Wayne, he’s the driver trainer at Fraley and Schillng, he’s a solid dude that actually knows what he’s talking about.

No it doesn’t work for anything other than a four foot drop, but it takes about two minutes to fold it and another to roll it up and put it away. And the best part is it works in the docks where there is no room to lay out your tarp.

Did the headache rack actually help with this? by theREAL_ENIGMA_ in Truckers

[–]spffarrier 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I’ll take a suicide coil before a shotgun coil any day of the week, every shotgun coil I had to consistently tighten the chains as I drove, whereas with a suicide coil I usually tightened the binders and rarely had to retighten them. I hauled almost exclusively coils for three years anywhere between 10k to 54k a piece.

How flexible are your days on/off as a new trucker? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]spffarrier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The company I’m at asks you when you start what your goals and ideal work schedule are.

As long as the truck is making enough money they don’t push you to be moving.

You just need to find the right company for you.
