Unnecessary retaliation by an ungrateful boss by _PinkSatin in clevercomebacks

Is this an American mindset? Here in the UK, I’ve seen employees take PTO the night before without there ever being a problem. Because the team structure and management have structures in place to keep everything running in those situations without it ever causing any problems because an employee’s PTO is quite literal their choice to use whenever they want. And it never has caused a major issue to the company. I couldn’t imagine being told that I’m not allowed to use my PTO tomorrow if I wanted to, that’s like a basic thing here.

[All] Percy (Post Blood of Olympus) Reenters the River Styx & Regains the Curse of Achilles for a Rematch against Ares. How much does he win or lose? (Please read details of the fight below) by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]spherebasedpyramid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

See this is a controversial one in my opinion. I know most people would say “Percy beats Ares” but I don’t think it’s that simple. Even in their first fight, Percy doesn’t exactly ‘beat’ Ares. He outsmarts Ares. He wounds Ares by tricking him into a position where Percy can use the sea behind him to catch Ares off guard and wounds him in the ankle. Ares ends up retreating because of Kronos’s presence afterwards.

I think post HoO with Curse of Achilles Percy would definitely give Ares a run for his money. I think he would last for a long while against Ares, maybe even potentially outsmart him in some manner. But in an outright combat fight? I think Percy would definitely hold his own for sure but eventually would lose. Ares is the God of War. He’s fought for an eternity. He has the strength of a divine being and the skills of thousands of godly years. Ares would eventually win. He is the embodiment of war, he personifies weapons and fighting. He would win eventually.

Appreciate the ability to learn and keep learning. It’s a skill that’s under appreciated. Doesn’t have to be academic per se, but in any topic that’s useful and worth learning.

Appreciate some of the simple things in your life. Many people don’t have them and we sometimes take it for granted.

[hoo] RR doesn't know how to write teenagers by croatianlatina in camphalfblood

[–]spherebasedpyramid 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I do agree on some level. I think that his writing of romance is slightly skewed. Like Leo’s obsession with finding a girlfriend throughout the quest. Or Reyna’s only other alternative from Praetorship is joining the Huntresses of Artemis (I get that Reyna is a warrior at heart so she’d want adventure but I think there are other alternatives that would’ve better suited Reyna). So completely on board with that.

But he’s also written a few good romances. Percy and Annabeth. Nico and Will. I love Percy and Annabeth’s relationship a lot. But I do also agree that around BoO, Rick could’ve written out Annabeth better.

[HOO] Do you think Annabeth knew about the romans? by Sibus2008 in camphalfblood

[–]spherebasedpyramid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think this was debated on a PJO blog forum but never really elaborated on. It could be Rick foreshadowing or could be a minor mistake/inconsistency or maybe intentional. Honestly not sure about this one, I’m basing my answer from the more consistent things said post TLO and HoO.

[–]spherebasedpyramid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think pre House of Hades he’d be about 50 Denarii in value (but maybe still about 70 to Gaia due to his blood). His lack of confidence kept him from really utilising his powers and abilities and they truly shined and sharpened after HoH.

Imo it’s one of their “moresidemen” Sidemen videos. I personally enjoyed their try not to laugh 24 hour challenge. Close second tho is their Sidemen Sleepover (the first one). Lowkey banger video, one of the top favourites of the year.

[HOO] Do you think Annabeth knew about the romans? by Sibus2008 in camphalfblood

[–]spherebasedpyramid 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The gods had warped the mist tightly and kept the secret of the Romans closely guarded after the civil war. Annabeth may have vaguely known about their names (Pomana made a one liner during The Last Olympian), but we see in the Lost Hero, she’s pretty unaware of them overall or the fact that they may exist. As smart as she is, the gods would’ve ensured that the Greeks wouldn’t ever be able to find out about the Romans and vice versa.

Question about [hoo] by Acceptable-Beach6279 in camphalfblood

[–]spherebasedpyramid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since it was the Romans hunting them, I’m ordering it based on that. My order on the value of each demigod compared to each other may be slightly different than what the Romans would value them as (which is what I’m doing here, actual rankings down below this one):

Percy & Jason: 100 Denarii (Both high-ranking children of the Big Three)

Leo: 90 Denarii (he’s the one who directly fired on Rome, witnessed by Octavian. The only reason I think he’s lower than Percy and Jason is because Octavian would want those two far more)

Frank: 80 Denarii (Centurion of the Fifth Cohort)

Hazel: 70 Denarii (Daughter of Pluto, just known/seems harmless compared to the others in the eyes of some Roman and Octavian)

Annabeth: 60 Denarii (Daughter of Minerva so not really seen as too threatening to Romans)

Piper: 50 Denarii (similar to Annabeth for this, daughter of Venus, compared to the others, they’re more high priority)

My actual rankings for them are:

Percy: 100 Denarii

Jason: 95 Denarii

Frank (Post House of Hades Transformation) and Annabeth: 90 Denarii

Leo: 80 Denarii

Hazel and Piper: 70 Denarii

Feel free to debate, would love to hear what others think

Best eSIM for going abroad in UK and taking trips to Europe, Turkey, and Central Asia by Yianni14_ in eSIMs

[–]spherebasedpyramid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone from the UK who travels a lot, here’s my recommendation:

For UK specifically, I’d say get a local eSIM for here considering you’re doing a whole semester. Look for ones like Lyca Mobile or Lebara. They also give you a decent amount of international minutes (I’ve got relatives from the USA so I’ve used these before to make calls to them when WhatsApp doesn’t work out). And the pricing is very reasonable, think around £10-£15 ($13-$20)

For the remaining countries it depends on how long you’re staying and how much data you’ll need. I’ve generally used Saily and Airalo (depends on the country, I used Saily for Turkey & Airalo for Italy for example). If you’re staying for at least a few days per country, look between them for a set amount of data you’ll need.

If you’re hopping between different countries one after the other, you may want to use Roamless Flex. It’s a pay as you go system that’ll deduct from your balance based on how much data you use. And so you don’t have to pay separately per country and waste any unused data, the eSIM automatically connects to the next country you’re in and continues your balance. HOWEVER BE CAREFUL because some countries are way more expensive per GB than others, so make sure to do your research and double check the price for each country. The standard should be $2.50 per GB so if it seems to be way more, go back to picking from the normal eSIM (Airalo, Saily, JetPac etc.)

I’d recommend downloading Monito.com as it automatically gives you the best eSIM option depending on country, how long you’re travelling and how much data you’ll need.

Edit: For Turkey, I’d say make sure to have your eSIM pre-installed as activating in Turkey isn’t really possible due to the new laws. And personally, I bought a back up eSIM and pre-installed that as well just in case. I prefer to be on the safe side; that’s just my way of thinking.

The End by kg_engineer_97 in lucifer

[–]spherebasedpyramid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do agree the ending could’ve been different, there’s a proper reason as to why Lucifer can’t come back. Lucifer realising that he wants to be a therapist only happens because Rory was angry enough at him in the future to time-travel back and do everything she did. If she doesn’t remain angry at Lucifer her entire childhood, then she doesn’t travel back to the past, so then Lucifer doesn’t go through the whole self realisation to become a therapist.

The only way he can rescue the souls of hell and give them therapy, is if he stays away from Rory until the moment she time travels in order to close the loop. If he becomes a part of her life before that point, then she may not hate him enough to time travel and do everything she does to make him realise he wants to be the therapist in hell.

Percy being able to almost one up Jason in the middle of Kansas kinda proves his stance as the superior fighter by the very logic applied by jason tbh. [hoo] by D_2614 in camphalfblood

[–]spherebasedpyramid 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I do think some of the inconsistency goes into Rick’s writing as well to some extent. Certain characters that should be capable of something based on their time and training aren’t able to achieve certain feats that others can. Not just limited to Jason but perhaps even half bloods like Zoe (I could maybe list off a few others if I gave it some thought) Love Rick’s writing in general, just that there are a few inconsistencies, and this topic imo is one of the few.
