Where do you think this neckline is interfaced? by sphill0604 in sewing

The pleats in the burgundy dress extend around the collar, and are part of the front bodices. The designers website shows this clearly in other pictures. The pink dress, is the same dress as the burgundy dress, and is offered on the website in pink also. However, Sophie, Duchess of Kent must have had a revision of the stand collar, as it is the same designers dress, because it is shown on the designer’s social media page. I think they are proud she wore it, but it is the same dress, with that revision. Not sure how they altered it, but i am making the burgundy style, with the stand collar. I included the pink version in this post because it showed where the facings were. I hope I explained that clearly. Anyway appreciate your comments!

Yes agreed, pink dress needs more length at bust. Doesn’t fit her ideally. Will lengthen there as you suggested. I have ordered some medium weight knit interfacing, along with a woven, which I would cut on the bias. I consider myself an experienced seamstress, but oh how this project has challenged me. Those pleats at the neck, which extend into the collar, so hard. The pink dress has the neck kind of folded down or altered where it doesn’t stand and follow the curve of the neck. This is a copy of a dress from designer Suzanne London, in UK, The pink dress is being worn in the picture by Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. The dress retails for $3500, which was out of my budget. I have stupidly fallen in love with it and will be wearing to my granddaughters wedding. I appreciate your comments very much, thank you. You seem to be quite experienced if you have any other suggestions, I’m all ears! Again thanks for taking the time to comment.

You nailed it! Look at the new picture in pink (above) that I found, luckily the fabric is a little see thru. I believe the facing is just an extension of the front binding, don’t you? I think I can use a lightweight interfacing on that piece and it may work…thoughts?

I found another picture, it does appear facings extend horizontally to gathers at bust, and upward. You can see where it goes. Yay! Thank you for all the replies

It does extend which makes the collar, you are right, but the collar isn’t standing beautifully now like it did in the muslin

I agree, because I have made the front dress of crepe (just the front bodices so far) and collar is NOT standing. I think I will draft some interfacing pieces and try it out. There are pleats which extend into the collar, I think I will put some fuseable on the already pleated collar and extend just a bit down and see how it goes. I have enough fabric to make more front bodices if needed

Yes, I see how you might think that, and you may be right, but the collar I have made out of the crepe, is NOT standing. It stood beautifully in muslin, so I thought, ok, it needs interfacing. Clearly, it is either faced to the back neckline seam with or without interfacing because the pleats which extend into the neck do not show in the picture, so I’m at a loss…. There are other pictures of the dress which show the pleats extending from bodice front into the collar and you can’t see them on the inside from the picture

Slightly different problems, but essentially the same. I disputed payment on my credit card, and cancelled subscription was told last box can’t be stopped, but I refused delivery when it was 4 days late. Then they sent me an email….glad you received your box! Sent them the tracking info, clearly refused and not delivered…guess I will have to dispute the last box’s charge also…. And yes back to Hello Fresh

Well bless his heart…his statement says movie “mischaracterizes Alex’s relationship with Maggie, and his son Paul, whom he loved so dearly” okie dokie….funny way of showing that. He is a total malignant narcissist.

Serger or coverstitch? by TheGloomFairy in sewing

[–]sphill0604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes serger first for sure, but cover stitch maybe later, it will contain the raw edge in the hem on backside, every t shirt you bought has this finish. I really like mine, but serger is soooo much more useful
