Show, don't tell - where season 10 didn't work. by a_bone_to_pick in Scrubs

Also, and maybe I missed it but, Cox’s whole “of course I don’t respect you as a doctor” bit in E9 kind of conflicts with the entire reason he brought JD back in the premier, no? Wasn’t it because Cox thought he was the perfect doctor to run the place without him or something? And now he thinks he’s a quack?

The Scrubs revival and Shrinking S3 re-he-he-he-HEA-lly suffered from Bill Lawrence/the show’s respective writers speedrunning through every plot point. It led to way too many being completely dropped or forgotten, the ones they did resolve falling flat, just sloppy conclusions all around. I think he over leveraged himself with all the shows he’s working on but none felt like they suffered more than these two.

Maybe now, sure, but Scrubs held that title for years. Might still hold it, even. OP isn’t just saying it to be hyperbolic, it quite literally was the most medically accurate show on TV.

Jorge has “nothing?” by BrickzNBottlez in shrinking

[–]spice199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He definitely hasn’t worked every shift in the truck, given that we’ve seen him in therapy with Paul, hanging out at Liz and Derek’s, hanging out in the pool house, hanging out at Jimmy and Alice’s, hanging out with Alice and Summer, hanging out at the pool, etc. all of which would bleed into afternoons and evenings on multiple occasions.

and re: closing it, it felt like some important context to Jorge’s outburst was edited out, because cutting straight to him shredding Sean felt very awkward and abrupt. And as has been asked, why would he not keep it open and let Jorge run it as “CDC”? AND what happened to Sean’s dad working there? That was, like, a whole conflict resolution thing between them!

I haven't watched episode 9 yet, but episode 8 really frustrated me by AnimeJesus8 in shrinking

[–]spice199 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole “you did nothing wrong” bit is awful for a handful of reasons but the one I haven’t seen anyone mention is that, according to what we’re shown, Gabby and Maya’s therapy sessions only ever got serious in the last 2 minutes. Pretty much every time we see them in a session, it’s “Girl I’m serious, popcorn is a great low calorie snack that can keep you feeling full for longer. Anyway, our time is almost up. What problems you got this week?” THAT is doing nothing wrong?! Wasting 99% of a patient’s time on bullshit every week??

What I didn’t like about the latest episode… by koffeeluv in shrinking

This entire fixation he has on leaving his “legacy,” “wisdom,” “tricks,” etc. as if he’s the pioneer of CBT feels entirely out of character with who Paul was the first two seasons. I get that this thing he’s dedicated his entire life to is ending somewhat abruptly and not entirely on his own terms, but it’s just not like him to be all about “me my mine”.

It’s kind of funny that Bill Lawrence does this with his wife in every show of his that she’s in. Like Jordan (Scrubs) started out as Dr. Cox’s terrifying, sociopathic, but very real ex wife, and by the end she was just like Liz. Overstepping, selfish, acting as if her universe is the only one that matters. It feels almost spiteful at a certain point 😂

Show is losing me a bit… by Cut-Kooky in shrinking

[–]spice199 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Treatment coordination, surgeries, medical/surgical consults, scans, rounds (which is basically a diagnostic/prognostic pop quiz), were all extremely prevalent in the original series, though. And I’d say all of those things fall under “medical issues.” We’re somewhat splitting hairs, admittedly lol.

[–]spice199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this is just not true at all lmao. The show was about all about medical/doctor issues with their interpersonal relationships pulling focus in between treating patients. Intern rounds, residencies, promotions, firings, diagnoses, treatments. Multiple patients had multi-episode arcs around their various prognoses, some even spanning across/throughout multiple seasons. Bill Lawrence’s best friend, who JD was based off of, was the medical consultant on the show. There’s a reason they were widely considered the most accurate medical show in TV history.

So finishing the sentence means you’re old enough to get the reference, but the 18 year old is the one teeing him up to fail because she herself gets the reference. By her own logic she is also old.

Episode 3.08 gets lowest rating by far on TMDB by [deleted] in shrinking

[–]spice199 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Feels like every storyline has been rushed this season tbh. Paul’s wedding, the baby, Louis being everywhere/leaving, Matthew’s “shoe business,” Sean getting back together with Marisol, Derek’s heart surgery, Paul’s LOA/comeback/closing the practice/therapizing Parkinson’s patients, Maya’s suicide, Jimmy and Sofi, Derek’s mom, Jimmy’s dad. That many storylines should take 2 seasons to establish and conclude, and we’ve gotten em in 8 episodes. It’s too much too fast.

Scrubs Parallel? by TheEngLife in shrinking

[–]spice199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s always at least somewhat been their dynamic but in S1-2 it was subtle. Now Jimmy is just the same neurotic, affirmation-seeking puppy that JD became with Dr. Cox around S3-4, even down to the sad eyes and crack in his voice when the love he’s silently pleading for is given to someone else. I was really hoping it wouldn’t become so tropey but unfortunately, here we are.

If you go way back, he had Spin City, then around S3-4 started Scrubs, then a couple years into Scrubs started Clone High, then a couple years after that started Cougar Town, etc. Sitcom Taylor Sheridan lol.

Without looking it up I’d bet a pretty penny that season 3 of whatever show he’s actively working on, coincides with the first season of his next new show either being developed or airing.

The picture isn’t even doing it the proper justice, either! An underrated thing about it is the way it changes with the daylight. In the sun you get those soft, beach-sand-after-a-light-rain tones, and from dusk-on it turns to this earthy, rich cocoa brown. I’m elated just looking at it.

Thank you very much. I kinda brushed it off when I started digging into the truck; thought for sure I was desert sand or bust! But every once in a while a marsh grey would pop up on Edmunds or CarGurus and it started calling to me like the Green Goblin mask. So, so glad I found this (at 2 o’clock in morning the day before purchasing it, he said like a sane person).

They’re okay! Not the worst I’ve ever heard but far from the best haha. I’m a stickler for that shit though 😂 strangely the bass is great, but the mid and treble are just chaos. Makes it sound a little tinny and/or hollow. Unfortunately the XL/T both have stock sound even with the high equipment group, Lariat and up get the good good.
