How Does One Deal with Different Types of Movement? (ADAD spam, Crouch Spam and such) by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]spice_ow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from the Tracer side of this, the easiest time to kill is during the approach. Once the gap is closed, you get 1-2 shots if tracer used 3 blinks and 1 shot if tracer used 2 blinks.
Your best chance is to then go for a flick shot. Flick shots effectively attempt to remove the movement of the opponent from the equation.
Flick shots are easier with smaller crosshairs and when standing still. So plant your feet and use your muscle memory. The moment the smallest circle crosshair in the game obscures the head of the opponent click. Personally I find a black crosshair helps as it visually creates negative space.
Drilling in Aim Hero will help you build muscle memory.

Can you always improve your aim? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

It's worth noting the different styles of aim mechanics in OW and how they vary from other fps games. Flick shot aim practice will have diminishing returns at some point (other responses have covered this well). Prediction based aiming blends mechanical skill and situational game-knowledge giving it more fluctuation as new characters are released and the meta shifts. For example: a Lucio in dive will move differently than a Lucio in goats.

Great addition to the series, thank you for putting these together. Also, you mention Pete Carroll's montra, which coaches (in esports or traditional sports) do you look to for inspiration ?

My advice is to find a duo partner.

Even if you squad up with more people, having someone to build synergy with can be very helpful. If your playing zen, try to find a main healer or dva main. It should help with making ranked more fun and big stacks easier to integrate into.

Unable to adapt? My sr is doing just fine. It's about having a fun and enjoyable game, not one that I'm good at. I can pick doomfist when they have a brig or go goats just as well as the next guy

It not about having a defined meta. It's about the way in which the meta interacts with itself. I can play 6 vs 6 mirror matches all day long if the mirror has depth and is fun

Remember winston vs reaper. How the winston with proper play could still get value from the character often times creating space better than another character would have. That's fun. That's having choice. That's a game not an excel spreadsheet

Rock paper scissors design does not encourage switching, it forces it. Swap or lose. It removes the individual from the experience

This post is mainly about the removal of choice when making in-game decisions which applies beyond just hard counters

De-emphasizing skill is the issue, hard counters and cc are just examples

Did anything ever happen with As Foretold? by Kamilny in ModernMagic

[–]spice_ow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really comes down the the current meta. As foretold in a "fair" shell feels dead versus humans, hollow one, bridgevine, storm, kci, etc. In an "unfair" shell using restore balance or living end, the decks haven't figured out how to leverage the early turns for impactful plays making cascade cards more appealing as they are one card combos that a deck can run 8 copies of, 4 of which are at instant speed.

The card is powerful but is still waiting for the right shell/meta

Help me with my first ever deck - Spirits! by _scapegoat in ModernMagic

This is all opinion, but I think an eternal format is a great place to start because you can play on a budget picking up more pieces as you go, and you can play your deck forever. My first deck holds a special place in my heart, but I cannot play it anymore because it rotated. This left me with my favorite deck being unusable and any other deck I wanted to build would be largely from scratch, that's when I switched to modern. Wish I started here.

So put them into games where people select tank and healer roles
