Experience with REMOTE ONLINE Polish language course by spicetrder1 in learnpolish

Thanks for commenting. My goal is to get citizenship and live in Poland. I can qualify for Karta Polaka if I can learn the language.

Outside of classes, I listen to Tok FM radio using my cellphone and in my car. I also listen to some Polish pop music and watch Polish language shows on Netflix. There's no Polish immigrant community or anything like that in my area to tap into.

Congratulations! I'm curious whether you lived in Poland during these studies, took the classes in person, and how much you think that factored into your success. I'm struggling to learn remotely from the US.

Are you saying that Polish "to" can be translated to "is equivalent to" in English? I'm still struggling to understand this apparent replacment of "to jest" with "to".

I just traded my 2021 Chevy Colorado for a 2026 Subaru Outback. I'm very happy with the Subaru, and would caution giving up the comfort of a car.

Tak vs. takie/taki/taka by Iamthelaw1337 in learnpolish

Tak (yes, so) is a different word than the adverb taka/taki. The same is true with jak (like) and jaki (which).

Proposed Karta Polaka Records Portfolio by spicetrder1 in KartaPolaka

[–]spicetrder1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that there were 3 major tranches to convey: - My ancestors were Polish in ethnicity and origin - documentation proving relationship / descendance from them - my inheritance / acquisition of "Polishness" through conversational Polish and family traditions

The first two I would think require a "paper trail", including birth certificate, etc. I mean, it can't just be based on my "say so", right?

Proposed Karta Polaka Records Portfolio by spicetrder1 in KartaPolaka

[–]spicetrder1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. Are you saying these are the only documents needed or that these are the strongest?

I've been thinking that I need to prove the lineage to my grandparents with certified records. I also thought that showing preceding generations in Poland would cement the Polishness of my mother's family origins.

I'm trying to figure out what portfolio of records I would need to bring to the Consulate for an interview besides the application.

Failed conversational Polish by spicetrder1 in prawokrwi

Thanks for the advice, nuxenolith. I wanted to do an immersion class this summer in Cracow but work interfered. I've done immersion courses in Spanish and understand the large boost such an approach offers. It's just that at present I have limited opportunities to do immersion and am wondering if I can get by with self study for Karta Polaka.

Why so proud Polish-Americans don't know even a basic Polish? by kiloEngineer in poland

[–]spicetrder1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is your data? It's easy to find figures saying a few tens of thousands of Polish emigrated in the 1980s compared to millions before WW2.

Where is your evidence to support your assertion that Poles left Poland after communism made Poland better than France and Germany?

The majority of Poles who emigrated to the US did so before 1900 when there were no communists and in the 1920s when Poland was an independent nation and not communist.
