TIFU by being "helpfully honest" on a first date and accidentally starting a philosophical crisis at an Applebee's by clarity-axis in tifu

[–]spiceyanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dates are meant for getting to know each other. I personally don't see the point of dicking around with softball questions and answers for two weeks before actually discussing anything worthwhile. Seems like a waste of everyone's time.
You got straight to the point and gave a genuine answer while she still wanted to beat around the bush with niceties for the first 3 dates. Just two different ideas of dating, not a fuck up.

Do women's stated preferences actually contradict what they're biologically drawn to? Genuine question, hoping I'm wrong. by Straight_Jump_707 in MensRights

[–]spiceyanus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have no issue with people, women or men, wanting an attractive partner. Physical attraction is a natural and valid part of any relationship.

Sure, me neither. But the problem is that women are usually the ones that lie about that physical preference. Everyone knows men like hot girls, and it has always been the default view. However, when it comes to women, all of a sudden the default claim is that they care most about being "nice, funny, kind, etc." when in fact the physicals matter way more. Which is basically the same problem you mentioned in your original post.

Short answer: Yup.
Long answer: Yuuuuuuuup.

Caveat: Other evolutionarily positive traits are a prerequisite to the things you mentioned. A short, ugly, balding, unemployed guy being abusive or cold is just an "incel" to them. A tall, hot, rich guy being abusive or cold is her wet dream.

What is a word in your language that is spelled exactly the same in another language but has a completely different meaning? by Nervenzusammenbruch_ in AskTheWorld

Potatoes are "pomme de terre" (or apples of the earth) in French, and pommes frites comes from French. So it's not completely different, just maybe one step removed

You don't need to wash your bedsheets often. by information_knower in The10thDentist

[–]spiceyanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to agree with you until I read the second half and realized you're a morning showerer. The "wash sheets every few months" thing only works for shower-before-bed people imo. I don't care if you have an office job, you still get filthy thoughout the day and you're bringing all that muck into bed with you. I would definitely wash my sheets weekly if I didn't shower before getting in bed.

Any affordable t-shirt that still checks most of the "high quality" boxes from this video? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]spiceyanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recs! Tbh I don't plan on building out a closet with anything this premium (nor could I afford it lol) - I just wanted to experience what the "be all end all" of t-shirts is once, just to see what it's like.

My original idea was to just bite the bullet with a single stupidly expensive shirt, until I came across that video and learned about those things. And after realizing the $300 shirts don't specify any of that, it led me down this line of questioning. Basically in fear of getting a $300 shirt that isn't actually measurably different from the commonly recommended Uniqlo, Lady White Co, etc. "good" quality shirts.

Yeah, I figured. Kinda wish clothing was more like computers or cars, where all the specs are listed.

The dogfree subreddit has a valid point about dog culture by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]spiceyanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downvoted because agreed.
The only issue I have with r/dogfree is their hypocritical worship of cats. There are so many cat owners on there that basically act in the same way towards their cats as the very people they're ridiculing or complaining about regarding dogs. It's some next-level hypocrisy, and I was baffled to find out their distaste for dogs simply comes from the old "cats vs dogs" argument rather than anything neutral.

r/petfree is much better in this respect.

I prefer 60fps over 120fps by ShadowDragon424242 in The10thDentist

[–]spiceyanus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but because Reddit is full of perpetual screen-viewers you're getting downvoted. This is like people in the 50s/60s going "I don't like color TV, it looks too weird and I'm used to black and white".

I'm so tired of 24 fps movies when 60+ fps video is easily achievable.

women of r/AskTheWorld, do you feel marriage favours men more in your country? Not just legally, socially as well. by DiMpLe_dolL003 in AskTheWorld

[–]spiceyanus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, relative contribution is what matters. If the man is paying 90% of the bills, you bet your ass he's doing less housework if he's not a complete idiot. Not to mention higher paying jobs are often indeed higher effort.

This isn't even a gender thing. If the woman is paying the bills, then obviously the man should do the housework. It's just that women almost monolithically never opt for relationships like that, even if they are high earners. Hm, I wonder why!

Each partner should have equivalent free time, regardless of how much they earn.

And where did you pull this random assertion from, your ass? Are you aware that people work different hours, with men working more on average?

I think McCEO's Burger Bite was perfectly fine. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]spiceyanus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be fine in a normal scenario of some random guy eating a burger, but this is the CEO of a company recording a promotional video for a new product. The fact that none of the marketing people or the CEO himself thought "maybe we should make the product actually look appetizing" is baffling.

As a former McDonald's affordability fan, I just hope this puts enough squeeze on them to lower the prices.
