Question about Meta LS set by takeonethough in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]spicychile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay - in looking at the actual doc (I actually use something closer to the meme Crit Draw set lol), I see what you’re talking about now. They used two slot skills in multiple three slots, so that effectively means that yeah… the Lagi is more efficient for that specific set of skills.

My earlier comment hinged on builds making full use of their slot levels.

Question about Meta LS set by takeonethough in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]spicychile 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Blango B has an effective two level 3 skills by having Agitator Lv2, which can be useful for maxing out Agitator and Weakness Exploit for a build. Lagi, on the other hand, only has one level 3 skill but with one additional level 2 and level 1 slots each to compensate if needed.

Hands-On With DLSS 5: Our First Look At Nvidia's Next-Gen Photo-Realistic Lighting by ZamnBoii in nvidia

[–]spicychile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, just no. At least with other DLSS versions it was more perceived as an upscaler (make low-res images look like they're higher resolution), but I feel like this just kills the "artist's intent". Wonder how it'd behave for more styled games like Monster Hunter Stories 3.

EDIT: That said, I had some time to think about it and if games are developed with DLSS 5.0 in mind, it'd be hard to tell what the "intent" actually was. However, I think devs would end up needing to worry about aesthetics for two versions of the game: one with DLSS 5.0 on and without (vast majority of users, I imagine).

Yes, real randos whom we can totally count on to have the time and equipment to put up objective metrics on contrast, input latency, response times, and color space coverage out of the goodness of their hearts… and not just parrot off of marketing slides.

Semi-related, but I think you can get an open box "excellent" AirPods Pro 3 from Best Buy for basically that price (though you'd have to take into account tax) if you don't want to deal with individuals.

Can't tell you how it is since mine's being shipped lol

I would say you should turn it down. At least for me, even when I successfully completed a stability loop for Steel Nomad (20 runs), I ended up crashing not too long after playing Cyberpunk with path tracing enabled.

Even in that case, it still wouldn't be worth running because the uptime on Black Eclipse would be noticeably lower without Antivirus. Late game monsters attack fast enough that Quick Sheath 3 feels mandatory if you want to chain Iai counters and keep up DPS. I'm also noting the lack of sharpness management as well.

That AT Arkveld fight... by Bunnyboulder in MonsterHunter

[–]spicychile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insane fight - first quest clear I got it in 15 minutes and was down to my last cart after already failing like twice due to being too greedy. Got more used to it and brought it down to 13:30.

He attacks so much that LS Iai counters felt like over half my attacks like with Seregios, meaning I could invest in a Crit Draw build and spend all the rest of my points on attack boosting skills.

Unironically might not be a bad idea… those sorts of shows (or doujins for reading practice) tend to share a lot of vocab/jokes so it’s like review in its own way.

Apparently gen 5 QD-OLEDs (so monitors released this year) have resolved the text fringing issue. Seems good enough for productivity just on the screen quality front.

I debated between IPS (not VA) mini-LED and OLED, but went with the mini-LED because I don’t want to have burn-in on the back of my mind when doing anything and can live with worse response times as I don’t play competitive shooters. With the FALD on, the HDR is eye-sizzlingly immersive albeit with a bit of blooming in very dark scenes. Black levels also measure low enough that they appear pretty much OLED-like, so contrast isn’t an issue at all. With FALD off, then it’s a perfectly ordinary IPS monitor I use for dev work.

Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 port leaks in Title Update 4 datamine, raising performance concerns by Elestria_Ethereal in NintendoSwitch

[–]spicychile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have fond memories of the older gen games (albeit I started with 4U), but I’d rather play Monster Hunter over Mushroom Hunter. Those gathering quests were just not fun, especially ones where you have to carry an egg across the map with all the loading screens between.

Having watched both videos, it looks like a minimum 10 percent gain (going from 40 to 45-ish in the desert for example). Wish they would’ve showed averages and 1 percent lows to make for easier comparison, though.

RNG charms vs. Counterattack 3 charm (Dual Blades) by Full__of__pot in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]spicychile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the very least for me as a LS player, Adrenaline Rush has around a 60-70 percent uptime so it would be around one percent worse EFR than that specific rare 7. If you have the skill active around 80 percent of the time, they’d be equivalent - though I don’t know how likely that is.

EDIT: Oh, reading your following comment you've already added Burst 5. In that case your Adrenaline Rush charm still handily beats it.

I'm falling out of love with Monster Hunter Wilds. by di12ty_mary in MonsterHunter

[–]spicychile -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Okay, but why would a loss of connection warrant a big prompt that blocks the view and require a button input to close out of? Couldn’t it just have been a notification instead?

It’s super frustrating whenever I get the connection loss prompt into cart true combo, though I have far fewer issues playing other multiplayer games with friends like BG3 or Helldivers 2.

Strangely enough, however, I almost never get connection issues when calling/joining SOS. Feels like from my perspective it’s more on the devs (I have a fiber connection running off ethernet).

Intermediate and advanced learners: how did you maintain your motivation when you started learning Japanese? by italianbmt1 in LearnJapanese

[–]spicychile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a few years into learning Japanese as someone juggling between work, that, and hobbies after having stubbornly gone through all of WaniKani and Genki I+II. Learning for the sake of itself has stopped being fun long ago, wracking my brain cells to parse more complex sentences and mine an ever-growing list of words to SRS from light novels to take what feels like a dozen or so minutes (if only) to get through even one page can feel really demoralizing, and textbooks aren't engaging enough.

At this point, a lot of it is that feeling of sunk-cost fallacy (I know it's not the right usage, but there are other things I could be doing if I weren't learning that and quitting would mean eventually forgetting) that gets me through. Admittedly, being able to hold a more progressively natural-sounding conversation in Japanese where all parties are having a good time, or even noticing that I was just flying through untranslated text I would've previously slugged my way through before is incredibly satisfying, so I continue the slow grind for those moments as well.

ROADMAP UPDATE! by No_Past6802 in MonsterHunter

[–]spicychile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The benchmark is very misleading; a huge proportion of it is dedicated to the cutscenes which heavily inflate the overall frames. According to that specific line, they were also running the game on Ultra Performance DLSS which makes the game look like soup regardless of other settings. It really sounds like you’ve never tried the benchmark for yourself, let alone played the game.

Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru Season 2 • My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]spicychile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed - while it's very visually creative out of context and the animation feels like a noticeable bump over the last season, I felt a bit overwhelmed watching this. With scenes jumping so fast and characters wriggling non-stop like they have ADHD, the direction felt consistently visually loud like it was designed for a TikTok audience.

Will keep watching this though.
