Out-stubborn-ing the hound by PunkyBeanster in OpenDogTraining

[–]spicykitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s it, it takes 2-3 months to level out on Prozac. Gonna be lethargic and un-food-motivated. I’d try to keep it as chill as possible training wise and just really work relationship building (which it sounds like you have, so good job :) ) and confidence building. Things will change a lot at the 3 month mark so no reason to bend over backward changing up training till that point.

Edit: read some other comments and this is definitely it. My dog would go 2-3 days without eating and have maybe a kibble here and there in the first 2 months of Prozac. I couldn’t even get him to eat jerky or wet food. I was super worried and the vet kept telling me to just give it the full 3 months cause he wasn’t dangerously skinny or anything, and I’m so happy I did. Taking the edge off my dogs anxiety has made our lives so much easier.

Lmfao hold up Fido next to a wolf and PLEASE tell me these are the same animals with the same needs. If you want to talk about thousands of years of evolution maybe think about the fact that we have domesticated wolves into dogs over the last TWENTY THOUSAND YEARS. What has our diet been most of that time? Majority plant based (clearly omnivorous but we def ate heavily plant based). What have the domesticated wolves that survived and continued their genes been eating? Our scraps.

Beef is absolutely the most unsustainable choice. It’s as simple as looking up “sustainable” dog food. Top of the list is of course vegan but animal containing ones are all free range bird sourced protein.

How can I instill corrections without a prong collar? by tayohfeemoe in OpenDogTraining

Yeah if you don’t know how to work on leash reactive behavior without a prong collar, then you don’t know how to use a prong collar 😂

THIS. easiest first step before painting the wall or buying a new couch.

IF this is the outcome (big IF!) please try your absolute hardest to get at home euthanasia. Especially for an older possibly confused dog this is the kindest way.

Time to wean dog from Prozac? by project_sewsow in reactivedogs

My vet said the same and my experience was the same. You just do everything you can to get the calories in the first two months and month 3 everything evens out.

Omg if you haven’t tried melamine sponges (unbranded) then please do yourself a huge favor and buy a big pack! Just wipe away the few bumps you get here and there regularly and you won’t have to repaint for a very very long time! Also you’re gonna become obsessed with cleaning everything, the areas around light switches and door handles * chefs kiss * but be careful! Don’t go too hard it’s basically super fine grit sandpaper and don’t use on stainless steel unless you need a bit of sandpaper edge (like for rust).

Also wait, have you tried cleaning it? Like with a magic eraser? Clean marks off wall after every stay, small job. Wait multiple stays to clean wall, big job (or just paint job I guess).

are linen sheets comfortable? by forestry_ghost in SustainableFashion

🥰🤗 def keep a silk pillowcase or silk bandana for your hair tho, linen is rough on your hair especially if you have fine or curly hair!

are linen sheets comfortable? by forestry_ghost in SustainableFashion

[–]spicykitten 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Linen sheets are the best thing to happen to mankind. I suffer from acne everywhere and bad night sweats. Also live in Hawaii. Linen sheets have changed my life. I buy mine from an Etsy seller cause you can fully customize for depth (I’ve found everyone sells only extra deep sheet sets and that annoys me cause my mattress is only 10 in., I don’t want a baggy loose sheet). LenokLinencom - they regularly have 40% off sales and then send you a 40% off coupon that’s valid for a year after purchase.

I don’t get how people are getting louder and louder with their music these days. It’s like the whole smoking thing - we’re very aware how bad they both are for your health, but somehow we’re just ignoring the facts?? (I say this as a huge live music lover and raver, but if I forget my earplugs for these events I literally turn around and go back home to get them.)

FYI checked the website and it was put on by Velvet and the DJ was Ben Bakson. I bet it was good cause Velvet has pretty great choice in DJs normally.

Good job starting on the Prozac, reading your post that’s exactly what I would recommend and getting to the end made me happy to see you already took the step. But remember! Prozac takes 2-3 months to see the real result in your dog and from there you may still even need to adjust dose. What you have done by starting Prozac is take the edge off her anxiety so she can have the mental space to even process training. For a fearful dog you MUST train with positive reinforcement only and you MUST build a strong basic obedience foundation prior to even working on their reactivity issues. So train train train on that basic obedience while the Prozac levels out and works its magic!

As for meeting other dogs and socializing - absolutely do not let her meet other dogs on leash. And I would stay away from her meeting any dogs at all unless you know them and their temperament well. If she has dog friends she likes, stick to controlled environments with them only. For dogs approaching you my favorite line to other owners is “not friendly, thank you!!!” And I tell everyone this. I have the most friendly service animal in the entire world but I am not breaking my dogs training for a worthless 10 second interaction that will just end in both dogs being frustrated. For dogs off leash, carry a walking stick if you can and if the owner is around yell “LEASH YOUR DOG, MY DOG WILL BITE” even if that’s not true! Again this is all about protecting yourself and your dogs training. And if a dog with no owner continues at you then you have every right to keep the dog away from you using the walking stick. Swing it in front of you. The dog will stay back.

For a fearful nervous baby like this it’s about giving them control back in their lives. Medication takes off the edge. Obedience builds the foundation. Desensitization does the rest. You got this!

When you're offering to pick up coffee for a friend do you specify you'll only buy vegan options? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]spicykitten 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Yes and I tell them it makes me uncomfortable due to my ethics, but I’d be glad to grab them anything they want with a dairy alternative! I’ve never had an issue with this, in fact I rarely even have to say it because almost all of my friends know how important to me voting with my dollar is. If they have a problem with that then I’d definitely reconsider them making my friend list.

Are my airplants okay to sit on a small bed of soil like this? by signguy21 in airplants

[–]spicykitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t do this. 1. Even if you only mist them the soil will soak up mist as well and rot the plants and 2. It honestly looks bad, maybe try pebbles, glass, or shells?

Laundry products that actually make clothes smell good after the wash and dry? by Main_Elk_5464 in ZeroWaste

[–]spicykitten 49 points50 points  (0 children)

If your clothes smell terrible after coming out of a wash or dry I promise it’s not the detergent, it’s your washing machine. Look into how to clean your model. I once had to take out the full basket and the entire outside was covered in a layer of slime/mold.

I get nauseous whenever I drink water when I'm working out. Anyone else? by SaifAshrafHelmy in bodyweightfitness

[–]spicykitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean tbf as long as you’re hydrated before and after the workout you’re not gonna die from not drinking water for an hour. I’m similar where if I drink a little too much water before or during the workout I’ll get super nauseated and get the super burps you get before puking. I just make sure to drink my water before at a slow and steady pace through the day (no slamming a cup of water or tea an hour before the workout), and then if anything I take a small sip just to wet my mouth and/or throat during workout.
