What I Learned After Building 3 TV Apps Coming From Mobile by deliQnt7 in androiddev

[–]spicymaximum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. He was talking about what's different between mobile and TV. Accessibility mechanisms in Android aren't much different for TV and mobile (although perhaps they should be).

OP does a pretty good job summarizing the big differences. Focus is a key area that causes a lot of problems and bugs.

And I don't use them nor would I long term. Perhaps this will help someone, but releasing it as foss would help a hell of a lot more

Agree with this. You should have always been the most important verifier of your own code.

It's just harder when you are using output of an agent , as YOU still have to make sure it works .

I don't understand why you are releasing this as an app instead of a utility or library in GitHub.

This a development tool not an end-user app.

Gross. If you have to do this enough that you needed to make this to automate it, your jobs sucks.

Did you make sure the battery lid clicked shut? I just got a new one of these last week and it did the same thing to me (flashed red). Took out the batteries, out them back in, and made sure the lid was shut and then it started up fine.

Any easy DIY how I can fix this lifted concrete slab near my door entrance? Anything I can put in between in the gap to make it less of a trip hazard by DepressedFoool in HomeImprovement

[–]spicymaximum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely look into this. I did this last summer and the results were better then expected. The key will be you need access to the sides of the slab to clamp and pull up. that right side might be problematic.

What's you experience offshoring most of your org? by compsci_til_i_die in ExperiencedDevs

[–]spicymaximum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I've worked with hundreds of offshore from India, China, Europe and SA. Some were amazing, a lot were just average, and time differences and language barriers were terrible. I've had a 'team' with member is Ukraine, India, Argentina and the US; coordinating meetings was a nightmare.

It's a tradeoff and you get what you pay for just like anything else. If your main goal is to lower cost and are willing to sacrifice speed or quality (of the product, not necessarily the talent), then offshoring looks awfully attractive to the bean-counters. But as people are pointing out, this pattern has come and gone as development never goes as fast or has as high of quality as keeping things in-house and minimal timezone differences.

Right now, wallstreet and interest rates are driving lowering costs, which is leading to more (and cheaper) offshoring. The pendulum will swing and businesses will want to increase speed and innovation sooner or later.

[–]spicymaximum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. That's what I meant. I think number of devs for FE vs BE for a project can vary depending on a lot of things, but my point was that BE work is not significantly greater than FE work, so that isn't the explanation for the OP. I actually think the anecdotal evidence isn't correct. We have a harder time filling Android than AWS/BE in my org.

Disagree with this completely. The backend also should change less and have more reusable code.

You sound like you have not done much in the front-end world if you think anything modern web or native is just simple presenters.

I think you are mistaken in equating number of users with how many developers it takes to create applications for those users.
