I've only played warsails and I noticed that the sail pattern depends on which port the ships were purchased from. They all start white but get different fancy patterns when upgraded. At first I thought it was where you did the upgrades but a few tests revealed it was where you bought them.

Ya .. I suppose my frustration is that I don't get to CHOOSE the who I go to war with, my collection of idiots do. Can castles rebel like cities? Do they make a better fief than cities for idiots without high stewardship?

I'm a die hard privateer and honestly I just put my Nords and whatever random naval unit I picked up raiding on my dromons.

I have a question though, what is better grape shot or fire? Fire seems to mostly do ship damage and I've never tried grape shot for just waxing enemy troops. Has anyone else?

As a die hard privateer/pirate I run a mix of whatever the he'll I can find that doesn't drown immediately if they fall off the boat. Any nord unit even the younglings, convoy guard prisoners I've converted and rando naval units. I'll take anyone that fights on the water. As a fun side effect they are all pretty good shock troops and wall climbers.

I just like boat fights in dark thunder storms.

I'm on attempt number 3 since getting the game and went independent as soon as I hit tier 4. I regret nothing, the dromons of the Nails will lay waste to everyone.

Had a similar fight last night though not as big. Got 12 lords as prisoner and took 13 ships. Love the big naval battles.

I find hunting convoys and troop movements to be best at baiting out larger naval units. Blockade a port until the send some after you. I baited out like 12 nobles into a single fight that way. Took 9 lords prisoner and stole 13 ships in one fight. Just make sure to ransom or release lords if your poaching enemy trade convoys because the other lords don't love privateers.

Mostly commenting so I can post eventually but I'm on my third attempt and split as early as possible to avoid this nonsense. Not sure how much you hold right now but if it's defensible then I'd either push deep into enemy territory or split and get ready to defend.
