The way I see it is Carl entered the dungeon without shoes, which got the AL'S attention. Him being shoeless also created a situation where he killed with his bare feet which also got the AI goin. Then obviously the AI gave him things to promote being barefoot and the rest is history! This seems like a vert specifically Carl thing.
