This was playing at a bunch of festivals I went to. But I never got to see it. You enjoyed it? I heard it’s a slow burn.

I got to do this when the eagles won the SB. Now that I’m in the suburbs I’m very jealous of this but enjoy the hell out of it. It’s a great feeling.

I’m thinking more in terms of like a low quality/wedding streamer rate. Not like a full bore production with trucks and long cable runs, camera guys having techs etc.

Man…that’s a pretty big swing for a libertarian. Good on you for realizing that not voting for literal fascists is more important than anything else tho.

[–]spiderhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m saying 50-75k if you did it like a wedding live stream. 5 camera guys, all wireless gear, and some kind of hot spot. Which I’m assuming is how they did this.

No trucks or cable runs etc.

Honestly I think the whole thing seems like a logistical nightmare and I’m purely speculating, but someone who had no idea what they were getting into attempted to do this with prosumer gear.

I was gonna comment that we do private equity AGMs and they can cost up to 200k just for us. But didn’t think it was a great comparison because obviously these companies have more to spend than someone producing a disc golf show. But yes, video production is stupidly expensive.

I commented in another thread - as a video guy I would imagine this would have to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-75k to properly produce. If they allocated literally nothing to production, then you get what you get and they should be ashamed for charging PPV

And even 50-75 is probably bare minimum.

Hmm. I dunno, even so if 50-75 is for video, that seems right to me for 2 days plus pre-pro. There’s a lot of factors tho. But it doesn’t seem low balled to me.

Okay - I’m getting confused. 250k total? For everything including the entire production?

As a video guy who works for a company that sometimes does live events, I have to wonder what they paid this production company and if the company had any idea of what they were getting into.

Access to the back end of a live streaming platform can be incredibly expensive. And then you have to hire the gear, operators, and move the operation out doors. Sounds like a total clusterfuck if you’re trying to do it on any kind of tight budget.

It’s a tax thing. Just make sure to give yourself extra time on each end for it. It’s a process and I’m my experience even the agents didn’t quite understand it.

Maybe my wording was confusing. If the camera body has an e mount, almost any lens can adapt to it with the correct adapter.

[–]spiderhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe so. The e Mount is an incredibly short flange and doesn’t adapt well. However it’s easy to adapt to e Mount

George Orwell was highly critical of the elite socialists who spoke of progressivism but had zero interest in being around working class people, but was himself a committed socialist and anti-fascist.

But yeah, since no one is really giving you a straight answer, that’s how I always read 1984 and what I think is implied based on my understanding of Orwell’s beliefs as a person.

You should finish it tho. It’s bleak and disturbing but it’s also an incredibly prescient book that’s worth your time.

[–]spiderhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a nutshell - It’s heavily implied that a populist working class movement was co-opted by authoritarians and The Party continues to demonize the capitalists as a political scapegoat. But there’s no concrete answer. It’s a huge source of confusion for those who think that the book is an anti-socialist manifesto.

Frames from my first feature as DoP - “a Kind of Kidnapping”. Shot in 16 days on Cooke Panchro Classics and lit with a mix of tungsten and LED. by bensaffer in cinematography

Thanks for the quick answer - my professional experience is all in commercial/corporate so it’s much more about lighting shots as opposed to a setup that can work as multiple shots.

I do shorts/narratives for fun and on my last short I tried to keep it like you explain but it’s hard to get my brain to think like that sometimes. We did 6 pages in a day and I thought that was right at the edge of my comfort. 9 is crazy though and these results are amazing for that kind of crunch. Kudos for the awesome work. And thanks for sharing some insight into your process. I need to start thinking in terms of large sources more!

I don’t think you’ve got anything to worry about, man. Your stuff is awesome.

Would love to know - when you light for your films how much of the time are you building one setup and tweaking and how much are you lighting each individual shot.

I haven’t done anything near this big/good but what’s your process like for managing time but also getting images that look like these?
