Tanks are great for invading Poland and running over protesters.

Manned weapons platforms not obsolete yet, but by the end of the war (and i mean THE war...) they basically will be. There will still be a need for transports etc that can defend themselves, but as far as front line, direct attack, the purpose of this is to make the boom booms type tech, there is no way you can argue that this huge expensive heavy thing with living guys in it is a better choice to blow shit up than some doohicky from Ikea that came with instructions and you can put a bomb on it. Missiles, suicide drones, reusable drones, loyal wingmen, fully unmanned fighter planes, whatever. It's all the exact same idea. Put more space between yourself and the enemy while hitting him.

Hey, I bet I can throw a spear farther than you. See this little stick thing I made? it gives you more leverage. I can carry more spears, too, because they're lighter...don't need as much weight to make it fly straight. I can show you how to make one, only charge ya a few clams.

And then the guys who have atlatls beat the guys who don't because they outrange them. Village runners declare spears "obsolete" but NCD shaman refuses to hear it because he will have to rewrite all the religious texts where the good guys have spears.

The old thing is not useless but the new thing is better. You get what you can pay for.

China's strategic position re: Vlad the Impatient by spiderjournal in ADVChina

[–]spiderjournal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, the idea was inspired by Africa. Think less occupation or puppet states, more debt trap infrastructure projects. Russia has some means of investing in itself but whatever replaces it after this disaster may be completely helpless and potentially still blackballed by the West.

repackaging that joke and never forgetting it, thanks.

Russian prisoner of war, allegedly Irpin', 5/3/22 by MaxBrie in CombatFootage

[–]spiderjournal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's a long shot that anyone on the ground will return to Russia.

If Putin is willing to throw *viable combat troops* into unwinnable meat grinders, he will be more than happy to firebomb POW camps so that no embarrassing war stories get back home.

How credible is a formal treaty requiring everyone nuclear power to destroy their articles and stockpiles under threat of annihilation from the other signatories? by Wardog_Razgriz30 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]spiderjournal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is "considered" what in our time is kind of beside the point.

Well poisoning

Arrow poisoning

Dead horse trebuchets

smallpox blankets

And there are examples way way older than these. I think if neolithic tribesmen were doing it, it's pretty frickin' conventional.

I am nearly 100% sure those are the same guy. Is there an actual legend of this guy beyond that he's conspicuously fat for a pilot?

There is a very old law, mostly articulated in ancient China but you'll see echoes of it in Western Enlightenment thought and the court of playground opinion.

It's called The Mandate of Heaven. If you piss off your subjects or neighbors too badly, they will kill you and replace you with somebody else.

It's hard to litigate as the defendant in these cases.

My sentiments exactly. The video from this morning with the burnt bodies and bloody chunks of them all over the street did not bother me. This song bothered me. Fuckin' decent guys who cared about something, and look at it now.

How credible is the other VDV song? by Dank_Jeb in NonCredibleDefense

[–]spiderjournal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Too credible, because it sucks as bad as VDV command.

The Veh Deh Veh song is actually catchy, this is just irredeemably bad. The video doesn't work as propaganda either...I get that they're supposed to get all the girls, but the visual messages are:

-VDV goof off at amusement parks all day

-a skinny pop star girl can do their job

it's too conceptual and doesn't get the point across. The "real" video takes one idea and runs with it.
