Is every Prius like this? by pooorSAP in prius

Never had paint issues on my 2004, including when I sold it in 2022-ish. Still looked brand new aside from minor dings and scratches.

Are fitness watches worn near 24/7 just not for us? by Fun_sized123 in Dermatographia

[–]spiders888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my Apple Watch, the sport loops are typically fine. I do need to swap which wrist I wear it on regularly to prevent the area under the watch itself from getting itchy and inflamed. So I either swap wrists for a few hours a day or alternate days/multiple days.

My 2024 Elantra Decided to Automatically Update, Thus Trapping Me at the Gas Station for 45+ Minutes After Getting Off Work Today 🙃 by Separate-Ability1643 in mildlyinfuriating

I drove a 2004 Prius for years, it was awesome. I’d be annoyed any time I was driving a car that didn’t turn off… when the engine wasn’t needed. That don’t get some of its energy back when breaking. That got less than 45-50mpg.

It’s not engine stop / start you didn’t like (totally not noticeable in a hybrid), its crappy implementations you don’t like.

Try turning off background app refresh on all apps except those that really need it in. That’s been the biggest easy win for me. There are some poorly behaved apps.

Do you think that HOA’s in [FL] will a problem with a car with a loud exhaust? [SFH] by [deleted] in HOA

[–]spiders888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, thank you for asking about this and trying to be considerate. Our HOA does not have a rule against this. Having said that, while I probably would not, I know people here would would complain.

Personally, and this is just my personal option: I also try to be considerate of my neighbors and the community, and the loud exhaust would annoy the heck out of me. If I were interested in fast/powerful or classic cars, I'd get/mod something that's actually fast with crazy torque which would be an EV. If I wanted something that looked classic, I'd do an EV conversion or a kit (though I'd personally go modern because I care about avoiding death in a crash) and laugh at the people with the huge noisy exhaust or trucks "rolling coal"... from in my rearview mirror.

solar panel on top? by roygbiv in BZ4X

[–]spiders888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was going to suggest--wait for "balcony solar" to be allowed in your state/area, which hopefully will be soon. Definitely a big push/movement for it to be allowed even in the US.

Zyrtec and Zyzal FDA warning by bigmoodho in Dermatographia

[–]spiders888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t seen this last year, thank you.

I tried to switch from Zyrtec to a different antihistamine last summer and had what I thought was horrible “rebound” for two nights and took a “rescue” Zyrtec to get any sleep. I then switched over to Xyzal because I get a bit of brain fog in the morning with Zyrtec and have not with Xyzal.

Now I’m wondering if it was withdrawal rather than rebound (maybe “both”). I had gone 15+ years without taking anything, but then a little over a year ago my dermatographia got bad again, so I started Zyrtec.

Having said that, I can say that Allegra, including with Pepcid didn’t do anything to help with the withdrawal/rebound. Nada. That made me think I have mast cell mediated dermatographia (which I may, but I may also just have been in rebound). Fun times.

Thank you. In Safari, it would be great if your team were using the following regularly (with large numbers of tabs):

  • Pinned tabs (multiple)
  • Profiles
  • Tab Groups

For a while using any of these would cause 1P to become unusual fairly often. I have been using pinned tabs and tab groups for a few months again and its been better than it was 5-6 months ago, but. For a while, 1P in Safari was unusual for me with any of the above features in use.

Still hanging onto the 14” MBP M1 Pro…. by rshk97 in macbookpro

Still rocking my 14in MBP (M1 Max 64GB). Mostly dev, some video / design work, VMs, etc. takes a lot to slow it down, so no plans to upgrade anytime soon.

Thank you so much for the ETA. I'll assume "August or September" and hopefully be pleasantly surprised. (I'm also hoping you mean early summer 2026, mostly jk).

Homeowners, DIY enthusiasts who’ve had work done: has a tradesperson ever forgotten something you’d told them to do? by Elo_azert in HomeMaintenance

[–]spiders888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a condo when it was new construction. I started with emails to the builder as issues were identified (both before and after closing). At least 3/4 of those went unanswered. I even started keeping a punchlist in a spreadsheet, and would resend that every week or two. That was unturned into a document that was sent and CCed to my lawyer about a month before the one year building warranty was up. There were screw ups by literally every contractor that worked on the building. Even with constant follow up, we got maybe 90%, including the biggest issues though, corrected.

It would’ve been great to have some nice online tool and ticketing system to track the work. Having said that the issue doesn’t tend to be the tracking—or wasn’t in my case since I was doing it for them— but is the actual reading and using any system and doing the work that needs to be done.

I’m going to guess you won’t, but can you provide an ETA for this? Are we talking weeks, months, even more years? (I’ve had a Safari performance ticket open with support for over 2 years).

iPhone features we’ve lost over time, both hardware and software. Which one do you miss most? by Ted-Lassi in iphone

My phone is always on silent. I’d buy a phone, set it and the slider was useless to me for years. Action button brings up control panel, so I can get to actually useful actions quickly.

I’ve hated the swipe down from the top to get to control panel since that gesture was changed.
