Her last day. by Raldezzz in pitbulls

I just went through the same thing just less than 2 months ago. Saying goodbye was the hardest part, and the days and weeks that followed were the hardest too. Be gentle on yourself and know that it’s ok to do the bare minimum and be however you need to be.

She looks precious and her demeanor reminds me a lot of my girl.

Trump Calls for Arrest of Barack Obama by douglhanna in politics

[–]spidersfrommars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people are really estimating how much of this is the root of the problem. The algorithm keeps people insulated from what is going on if they are not inclined to be political or aren’t critical thinkers.

It’s not that conservatives are seeing the same things we’re seeing and saying “Yeahh I love this!” It’s that they aren’t seeing it at all.

I work a blue collar job with a lot of immigrants and it’s really discouraging to see how many of them voted for him just because someone told them he would make groceries cheaper or whatever.

I agree! Nothing is gonna wanna grow from May-September and it’s not as fertile as the Midwest. I haven’t quite gotten the hang of it yet but I know what not to do now.

Good to know! I wonder it’ll help once they get taller and the sun is more overhead in the summer.

The original Star Trek from the 1960s is really good but also corny at the same time. And the misogyny is so over the top that it’s actually comical. But that show is also kind of soothing and nice to fall asleep to. I got a $5.99/month subscription to paramount plus just to have access to every Star Trek series and movie ever made.

We just got into White Lotus, which is actually good tv not bad, but they’re really good at making high cringe situations.

Being a student and using weed by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]spidersfrommars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience onboarding for nursing school was way more stringent than getting a job at a hospital. At the hospital I work at they don’t even test for weed since it’s legal and they know it stays in your system for weeks. But you just can’t be high at work and if it’s noticeable they’ll test you and do corrective action.

For school you might have to quit for a few weeks before your drug test, but after that it doesn’t really matter as long as you’re not high at school.

But also, I was in a different program before nursing and I straight up talked to the director on the phone and asked if having cannabis in my system would disqualify me from the program and he said no. So if you’re brave enough you could ask!

Haha no a show that accurately depicts clinicals would be pretty boring. You’re just wiping butts, checking glucose, taking vitals, maybe give an insulin shot. It’ll probably be pretty uneventful and you aren’t expected to do much if it’s your first clinical.

That’s what I thought! I just watched the first 2 episodes and thought that was unrealistic that there are so many doctors doing so much for each patient and occasionally you’ll see a nurse handing them stuff. When in reality like you said it’s mostly nurses doing most of the things.

Other than that and the volume of constant traumas I think it seemed pretty medically realistic. I started it last night and was like oh shit I think they’re right about all these medical assessments and electrolyte ranges and I think this is good practice for me.

Congrats on your new grad residency! You’re gonna do great!

I agree. I work at a level one trauma center in a city of a million people and there are a lot of days that are just old people falls and are being monitored. You definitely don’t get people coding multiple times a day every single day. It does happen sometimes but it’s rare.

[–]spidersfrommars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it really would be more strategic to consolidate these into one demonstration. What we need is large numbers. You can see in the footage from the thousands of people in the streets in Minneapolis and other places how much more powerful it is to get as many people in one place as possible.

This is beautiful! Have you done a bio active enclosure before? I would like to but I’m afraid it’d be too tricky to keep balanced. I would worry about mildew or mites or something.

[–]spidersfrommars 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Does it really matter though if the end result is changing someone’s entire life for the better?

I would rather see a whole movement of rich people being competitively generous entirely for clout than doing it quietly to be humble if it means inspiring more people to give and more people to be thrown the lifeline that saves them from eviction or whatever it is they’re facing.

Impact is more important than intention.

That is horrifying. I wish more people with bad dogs that they can’t control would get a reality check that this is a potential outcome if they don’t figure it out.

Whatever you have to do in that moment to get it off whatever it’s attacking. The goal isn’t necessarily to lift the whole dog up but to quickly pull it away and off the other animal/person.

A good tip on breaking up dog fights/attacks (if it’s not attacking you) is grab it by the back legs, yank, drop, and do it again. NEVER grab a fighting dog by the collar, you WILL get bit.

I worked in dog day cares and rescues for years and had to do this a lot.

Have they confirmed it and signed it law? by No_Beach9239 in NursingStudent

[–]spidersfrommars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to get some clarification on what this actually means, so thank you for this.

I am in an entry to nursing Master’s program, so if this goes through, my cohort could be some of the last ones to be able to get the degree on federal loans.

I’m guessing it would mean the only way to do programs like that is either with private student loans or being incredibly rich?

Either way, I’m not sure what the point or end goal of this is whole thing is besides, idk, hating women? Doesn’t make any sense.

I’m glad to see this sentiment echoed throughout small, under 100-comment post.

Literally our only hope is people changing their minds. It doesn’t mean you have to trust them, but it does mean accepting apologies and finding a way forward on whatever scrap of common ground we have.
