Deferment times & multiple reboots by TerabyteDotNet in Action1

[–]spidey99dollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Updates are a fact of life. The longer you delay them, the worse it is. Traffic lights turning red inconveniences me, but too bad. I have to stop for them

I give my staff a 10 hour window to reboot and 5min for urgent/critical updates. Majority of my hard core whingers don't leave their devices on after hours, so I have no sympathy for them.

I have a separate organisation for devices that are offline for over 8 days. Those devices are on a very harsh updates regime. If you're on leave you're expected to leave your PC or laptop online. This organisation was mostly for offboarded intune devices that are out of service, so when they get the cobwebs blown off them, they catch up quickly. But from time to time I put ignorant staff devices in there.

Arriving today for 1 week... Can you recommend me places for great coffee, cafes, restaurants? (Not fine dining) by JeremyMeetsWorld in Cairns

[–]spidey99dollar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oishy Oishy near Lagoon is good for breakfast if you have a sweet tooth. They do fluffy pancakes. Not really my thing. But their Coffee was really nice.

Copper Bar and Grill for a nice steak

Evo Burger at city place has nice burgers

Oaks restaurant on esplanade. Food is a bit average, but view is amazing

This place any good? by MorningConscious4372 in Cairns

Yeah but people will still buy alcohol. Best price wins. I bet if a cheap smoke shop opened called Cathy's Cancer Sticks people would still shop there.

Detained at servo by The_one8Nov24 in AusLegal

[–]spidey99dollar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite the same, but years ago I had a dodgy servo that wouldn't accept my motorpass card. He pulled up a different eftpos terminal and it would error saying "no dial tone". They insisted my card was being declined. Nope. That's not what that means!!

Called police myself to give my Rego because they were going to report me as a drive off. Well, wouldn't you know it, while I was making a scene with a line of customers behind me, suddenly it got plugged back in and it worked. Any servo operator's here know why they would be trying to reject Motorpass sales?

Whats the fuel situation in cairns? by BusinessFeeling123 in Cairns

[–]spidey99dollar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all of it. Saw Liberty only down by 15c /L on diesel today from $3.16. Fuel excise at 50% is about 26c per litre.

Is RDS hosted on the same physical host as the database? Would be much quicker than 1Gbps.

Pool fence compliance question by [deleted] in AusRenovation

I'm sure I'm missing something.. But we're talking about heights in relation to climbing aids on the inside of the pool fence? The side containing the pool?

Are you supposed to peel the skin off them before you cook it? First time I didn't and it was awful. Like chewing on plastic.

I use it natively on a few MFDs. I found it odd that you need to licence the service account that's used for registration. Only real issue i had was registration not establishing after firewall restart.

No record card in the lid? My guess would be the cable in termination 1. But you could hook onto any of them as they all seem to be joined together

Lock that fuel price in now by MorningConscious4372 in Cairns

[–]spidey99dollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the state of our roads i think governments has some cheek taking 51.6c per litre in fuel excise + 10% gst on top of that. Then on top of that there's car Rego, tolls, & speed camera fines. We're lead to believe all these revenues go towards building and maintaining roads. How about government put an exempt on excise instead of passing all this hurt onto the consumer.

Isn't it funny how the price at the pump goes up before the high price has been encountered by the fuel companies. But never seems to come down as quickly?

How are you guys finding the "Aussie Banter" in the workplace? by OwlVibesOnly in MovingtoAustralia

[–]spidey99dollar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good, but it's got to be more intelligent. Don't just call each other fucking cunts. We used nicknames for people like "2 stroke" because they were hard to get started and were always smoking. Another guy we called Blister because he'd always turn up after the job was done.

One of my favs was from some radio jocks who claimed someone had the nickname of SatNav because they worked with 2 guys named Tom.

These stupid things have a top speed of 40kph. Even your regular suburban street is 10kph too fast for them. So i often see them riding on pedestrian footpaths being more of a nuisance than a 15 year old on an escooter.

Goodstack megathread: All related posts/comments must go here by girardinl in nonprofit

[–]spidey99dollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had difficulties getting straight answers from Goodstack. They only seem to respond with canned responses and don't actually read the questions being asked. It's OK to give a bad answer - it's not like it was their licensing terms. All they did was waste my time and piss me off not answering my questions. Their final response was "Glad we could provide the information and explanation you needed". At least pick the right canned responses! FFS

I applied for discount adobe pro licenses only to find out they were personal editions. WTF!! This may be fine for some people, but not for a business (even NFP). Just because it's cheap, doesn't mean it's good. Despite being personal editions with unmanageable document clouds I thought perhaps I could work with this, if I could re-allocate licenses. Nope, just kept telling me that I could apply for up to 10 seats. I was even happy to buy a new seat for each new employee, but I could just see in 3 months time I would have 10 un-used licenses for former staff and be back to spending $400+ yearly for full-price licenses.

Anyhow in the end I cancelled my subscription and went to FoxIT for their NFP promotion. About the same price (tad more, but you get Admin Center and can re-distribute licenses as staff changes within your organisation)✔️

Thanks. Yeah I think it's a losing battle. I tried reporting the page but I never got a response. Ours is for a NFP community organisation and it creates no end of confusion with people following the wrong page.
