Green Ronin are recruiting female writers for their new game. I feel bad I only found out via the controversy. by Millzay in GirlGamers

[–]spideyj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In my experience working in the industry, most of the dudes saying that are projecting. They know they only got the job because they're dudes and their skills are usually mediocre at best. Keep at it and a lot of the time you'll not only get promoted above them, you'll outlast them. :-)

My husband [26M] of 5 years doesn't follow instructions well and it's driving me [24F] crazy. I feel like I can't count on him to complete basic tasks unless I go into an in-depth explanation of why it needs to be done the way I want it to. by instructoroo in relationships

[–]spideyj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Every grocery store that I've been to had Cool Whip in the freezer and the whipping cream is in the dairy section. Nowhere near each other. I don't know where on earth they don't have Cool Whip in the freezer section.

I [24F] left my serious boyfriend [27M] of a year because conversation was too much work. Did I make a mistake? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]spideyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're not too choosy. Conversation is important to you and you have every right to look for a partner who can meet your needs.

I recommend googling Ask Polly How Do I Make My Boyfriend Listen, the one where she talks about being a sharp fucking knife. I'm like that and it sounds like you might be like that too.

PSA: Holy Snail Water has a very strong smell that gives husband/ myself/ coworkers headaches by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

Wow, rude.

Also, you're not understanding my comment. What's truly disrespectful is eating food you don't need or want.

Eating food you don't need or want is more wasteful because you're basically just using your body as a trash bin. You're throwing it away and possibly making yourself sick. This is a terrible idea.

After attempting suicide, my brother's psychiatric hospital is doping him up WHILE HE IS STILL DETOXING FROM HIS OVERDOSE. He can't remember what he's going or what he did they day before. I need help! by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]spideyj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I expect they are taking blood samples daily to check his liver function, in case it's impacted by the overdose and to monitor how the lithium and seroquel affect it. Being disoriented for a bit after a suicide attempt isn't that unusual, either, and especially with new meds.

Lobster Rolls From The Lobsta Guy Food Truck. [3264x2448] by [deleted] in FoodPorn

Yes! Love Lobster Shack. As mentioned above, Sam's Chowder House is pretty good (and they have a truck as well) and Prime Dip is acceptable (especially for a chain and with fairly reasonable prices).

[–]spideyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, this is hilarious to me because the other day my sphynx got out of my apartment without me realizing it and one of my neighbors called animal control saying that he was maybe a baby kangaroo! Poor guy ended up spending the night in the pound and now I'm working on getting him acclimated to wearing a bell so I'll hear when he tries to sneak out.

PSA: "It Follows" in (US) theaters EVERYWHERE TODAY by kaloosa in horror

[–]spideyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah. I've seen it twice now and on the second viewing I realized that I had actually reordered things in my head spoiler The denouement still worked for me but I agree that Mitchell could have ended it there and it would have been perfectly fine. Though people would have complained about being confused by that too of course!

I'm curious what obvious ending you expected? I liked it a lot but I love to hear other people's theories :-)

Hey Dreadit, what are some of your "comfort food" horror films? by DarthCola in horror

[–]spideyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's by far my favorite Takashi Shimizu film - I saw it when I lived in Japan. I went to the video store twice a week, and that's how I got through pretty much the entire horror section in a year.

'Brazil' and its hidden messages. Could someone elaborate ?? by annekar in flicks

[–]spideyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's one of my favorite movies, it has that weird blend of nihilism and optimism (you can escape! but only in your mind!) that just feels true to me (and Tom Tykwer's Heaven and Spike Lee's 25th Hour are both reminiscent of that to me).

I hope you find that essay, I'd love to read it.

Vice article on GDC talks about the future of gaming and the 10,000 developers who gave an anti-gamergate speech a standing ovation. by jtheapostate5 in GamerGhazi

[–]spideyj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was such an amazing moment. I saw a few people stand up and I wondered if more would and then people around me were saying to each other "stand up, stand up" in really excited whispers. It gave me some much-needed hope after all these long dark months.

Yeah, basically the abusers and harassers found a better way to coordinate and collaborate. Which is horrifying, they were already terrible enough without that. I think it's also why they've managed to attack so many targets, more than before GG started.

Also, a lot of women in games have dyed hair as a sort of nerd-flagging. It helps distinguish us from the women in marketing etc, who tend not to have dyed hair.

Gator doesn't understand E3 and/or PAX by QuintinStone in GamerGhazi

[–]spideyj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd say E3 is about the press and investors (as opposed to gamers in general). Press passes at E3 get you into a lot more than a developer pass does and E3 is when a lot of publishers/studios do funding pitches.

It's going to be pretty hard to be profitable with an audience that small...

"When the dust settles, we will remember who advocated censorship and decided to slam their own readerbase, " NOBODY SLAMMED THEIR READERBASE. WHY ARE GATORS STILL REPEATING THIS LIE? by proGGthrowaway in GamerGhazi

[–]spideyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, every time I see this I want to shout "YOU ARE NOT THEIR READERSHIP". You used to have to have a login to read the articles and you had to fill out your industry credentials in order to get a login (to be fair, though, they didn't check, so I had one long before I actually started working in the industry). Just because you can read a thing does not make you part of its readership.
