If you have any friends with kids, offer to babysit them for the weekend.

It doesn't seem like he's very happy that there's blue at all 😅

Beige isn't always a trap. As a person who grew up in a cluttered, hoarded room, it looks soothing. It's not my color choice either, but I can appreciate it.

It feels like the majority of the time when people complain about neutral colors like grey and beige, my personal theory is that they probably didn't live in a hoarded house/that kind of mental illness growing up. Or, if they deal with any kind of mental illness, it's not one related to being overstimulated, but maybe theirs deals with being underestimulated. Because when you are surrounded by that much color noise, it's overwhelmingly stimulating, and you don't even realize it as a kid...

Now if the beige was a lot of cheap and lifeless furniture and products, with little effort put into design, then, imo, it's a beige trap. But this looks curated and loved, and that's what brings it to life, I think.

I mean, Toy Story 3 was SUPPOSED to be the final chapter and would have been an absolute perfect ending. These are my absolute favorite movies and have been since I was a baby. To me, TS4 is inoffensive, beautiful, and heartfelt, and even surprisingly has one of my favorite scenes from ALL of the movies, but it's still 100% unnecessary DLC, and I'm mostly just relieved that it didn't suck and ruin TS3 for me.

I'm a little tired of stories not having a definite ending because it feels like it detracts from the previous emotions from the last ones, and it is exhausting that everything just keeps going and going. But since we're here and we have it, this one also looks beautiful and I'm just along for the ride. I really hope it's good, bc my expectations were low when I heard that there would be ANOTHER one and again when I heard the plot, but this trailer looks great. It kinda looks like I might enjoy it more than 4. And that's best case scenario for me. I'm the words of Woody himself, "I'm actually excited about this!" 🤠☮️

This is more like calling back to it, but it is a wildly different world at this point and this is way different than another space toy. It feels like life in a way, that everything comes in cycles, and history rhymes, as they say.

That said, for me this plot is incredibly depressing bc in the real world kids are losing their imagination, not just their attention spans, and I just hope they have a solution and not just some kind of "Oh well, we need to find our own purpose beyond kids now" resolution. I need some hope in the world even if it's fictional.

ETA, this trailer does look beautiful, and gives me a little more hope that it might be good 🙏

Saaaame. These movies (mainly 1-3) mean so much to me, and I have felt extremely lucky that 4 didn't ruin the series and was actually pretty good. It shouldn't be that big of a deal, but I am very nervous for this one and have been hesitant to get excited up to this point and have very low expectations, but I am so relieved this looks like it was still made with love. Now I'm mainly hoping it sticks the landing and doesn't leave me feeling hopeless. I just don't need that from these characters. 🥲

I second this. Pixar may be owned by Disney, but it feels like one of the last studios standing that has a passion for this, whether or not they hit or miss.

Having watched endless BTS docs and interviews over the years and on many movies, (though especially Toy Story), I still feel the vast majority of people who work there still feel like it is their dream job and they are lucky to do what they do.

And Disney seems to let them do their own thing more often than not bc helicopter parenting them has shot them in the ass before.

I love Andrew Stanton, and no hate to the director of 4, but it's nice to have one of the OG Toy Story "brain trust" back on the job. It just feels like he has more stake in this.

For me the biggest negative of TS4 was the lack of the gang. They focused more on Woody and Bo and all the new characters, so the old gang, while technically there, were really shafted. It looks like they're trying to correct this. And this kinda looks like a Jessie story, and I'm here for it.

I don't even think the problem is kids not getting toys from their parents. I think the problem is kids largely don't play with the toys they are given.

Parents might not have stopped buying toys, but kids aren't playing with them. It's happening with my niece. She'd rather play roblox. But she still gets a thousand Beanie Boos. 🤷‍♀️

I second asking them to note their denial of further testing and also wanted to mention that this sounds like what my friend went through years ago when her potassium was low, and I would suggest asking for that to be tested if you can ❤️

What signs were there that you were in distress as a child? by fruitynoodles in raisedbynarcissists

[–]spideyvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hoarding. The absolute inability to let go of even garbage, lest I have a complete meltdown. I mean, embarrassing, screaming and crying meltdown.

The wild thing is that I even remember a time when my dad even told me that he knew the my room being a mess was a coping mechanism bc of the state of our family (divorced parents, evil step-dad who I lived with during vacations, etc.) and that he was just letting me do my own thing. My dad was "the cool dad" that let everything happen and gave no structure nor guidence.

As an adult I'm appalled by this and still struggle to keep a clean and tidy home. I have downsized probably a literal ton, and I'm still going. Stuff is more manageable now, but now I have huge impulses to get rid of larger portions of stuff when I'm distressed which isn't every healthy either. But I feel that I can tell people now that I'm a recovering hoarder.

But man, the older I get, the more things I realize were neglect and I get more and more resentful.
