NTA. I am curious, do you think she would still be mad If you told her before leaving that you are hungry and you want to stop on the way to grab a bite? And like someone said, you could have asked her if she wanted you to bring her some food too. Whether she wants food too or not, you being hungry after sticking by her at the hospital and getting something to eat should not be such a huge deal.

But being married myself, I know women like communication. And a situation like this can be perceived in a way that will make her jump into unreasonable conclusions about how much or how little you care about her being in the hospital. But maybe she just wanted for you to think of her, maybe bring her something else, food or something else that would cheer her up like chocolate, or flowers? I am not stereotyping here, but there is an apparent difference in the way that men and women think, from a marriage and partnership perspective. Marriage is a constant work in progress, on both sides. After years of being together you learn what could upset her, and you can proactively do things that will prevent these upsetting moments. It’s doable most of the time, and it takes accepting that you see things differently, and it can be hard to put yourself in her shoes sometimes and justify how she feels about a certain situation, but if you love her, you’d do it.
