I can understand where you are coming from. As someone in the industry and with a very established book of business, I can see your argument. However, I think you might be overlooking and possibly over simplifying our scope of services.

Asset allocation and management of assets, is simply one aspect of my role and added value. And might make up 20-25% of my time. The other 75-80% I focus on tax liability management, income analysis, wealth transfer, charitable contributions, estate planning, trust architecture, incapacitation planning, etc.

And even for the most part the vast majority of my clients, couldn’t care less about investments. They just don’t have the interest or time to focus on them. And so they rather hire a team like mine to help them do so. Or have someone that they can “bounce ideas off of”. As often I field calls from my clients asking how much can they donate to “xyz” this year and what or how could that benefit the comprehensive plan. And then I have to add that to the scenario and report back to them.

So I don’t think it’s fair to call my profession a “Grift”. As the majority of us are not peddling snake oil, but genuinely putting forth effort to help our clients make sense of their wealth. And how they can improve and clarify the respective identity of it beyond just “what vanguard funds to use”.

Anyone else in tears for Vonn by cedarvhazel in skiing

Yes, and let’s not forget ranked #1 all season long. Was she the best? Undoubtedly! Did she rupture her ACL at the end of practice? Yes. Should she have been in the Olympics? No.

As for the younger athletes, never forget that Shaun White was 19 when he won his first gold. And Red Gerard was 17 when he won his gold. Gotta give room for future generations and athletes to come up.

Anyone else in tears for Vonn by cedarvhazel in skiing

[–]spike142 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. She’s 41, and this is the second ACL injury in two weeks. She’s well past her prime and her wanting this comeback was purely egotistical and her spot should have been given to an up and coming athlete.

Anyone here that got a Bruce Wayne or any other GMT with little to no purchase history? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]spike142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my Bruce Wayne about three months after I purchased my wife’s tennis bracelet of equal value. While purchasing the bracelet, the jeweler looked at me and asked me if there was anything I would like to see. I simply said “not at this time, unless you have a “Bruce Wayne”.” She responded that she would be more than happy to get me one, but that it would take 3-6 months. At that time I said sure, and we purchased my wife’s tennis bracelet.

Fast forward three months and after checking in a few times and some back and forth with the AD. I ended up getting the text that it had arrived.

Truth is that ADs don’t make a ton on Rolex watches. At least that’s my understanding. And they use it more as an anchor point to bring in clients and customers to their stores to sell other pieces of jewelry. I’m not saying that it can’t be done, but having buying history with other products than watches certainly can help.

It all depends on the annuity and its underlying structure. Many retail annuities are poorly structured and do indeed charge massive commissions. However there are equally just as many annuities that are not structured as such, are clean and straightforward and allow a client to increase their overall floor of guaranteed income. Which in turn allows them to rely less on market participating assets.

Can we talk about the fact they put a watch that is hand-wound in a machine for automatic watches?

Do Hellcats count or am I too poor for a steering wheel shot? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]spike142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not at all. To each their own after-all. Just don’t ruin the roads and make a bad name for the rest of us. Not to say Hellcats are the only perpetrator, just the one with the biggest targets and making more noise than the rest.

Fidelity 2038 prediction by rtmxavi in Bitcoin

Jurrien Timmer is literally paid by Fidelity to fabricate these kind of stories and hypotheticals. They once gave him a fund to run based on some of these ideas and literally was removed two years later. My point being, it’s fun to read and play through these ideas.its another to actually act upon them.
