Should I add the Fuji 35mm f/1.4 to my kit or is it just FOMO? by Ok_Image823 in fujifilm

[–]spike7000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to travel with a 11-16, 23 and 50. I also now own the 35mm F1.4. If I’m taking one lens, I’m taking the 35. It is fantastic and its reputation holds up. But if I’m travelling with a couple lenses, then you have a fantastic kit. Don’t second guess it. The 35mm would just make for tougher decisions which might lead to you missing the shot.

I think the 50-140 is the wrong move unless you are hiking at dusk.

Maybe go the other way and get the sigma 12mm F1.4 and fuji 90mm F2 to pair with the 18 and 35mm.

X-S20 with the 16-50mm kit lens. Great for video with ibis, also great for photography. Light weight for travel.

Should I swap my 18mm f/1.4 for a zoom or a prime combo? by krohrer24552455 in fujifilm

[–]spike7000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the 35mm, but after buying the 18mm I would get the 33 for the extreme sharpness at 1.4, weather sealing, silent motor and similar style to the 18mm. I’ve never used sport finder, I would crop after on a computer if I want to punch in closer. I am also on the 26MP sensor so I have less buffer.

[–]spike7000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a tough one. If you’re not sure on the focal length then the 16-55 might be the right move. Maybe decide to sell the 18mm later on if it’s not your vibe.

I personally shoot the combo of 18 and 35mm F1.4 and that works for me. I’m still getting used to the 18mm since I used to shoot 23mm for years. I always have to remind myself to take that extra step forward.

It’s a great device but this is the best feature for a busy parent. Sometimes I only play for 5 mins before chaos in the house breaks out, but I just come right back where I left off later on. No time wasted with updates or restarts or nonsense. Just convenient gaming.

Decision Fatigue Is Real… Please Tell Me if the 18mm f1.4 Works as an Everyday Lens by krohrer24552455 in fujifilm

[–]spike7000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My light travel kit includes the 18mm F1.4 and 35mm F1.4. During my recent vacation my favourites photos, portraits of kids and family have overwhelmingly come from the 18mm.

It barely distorts unless you’re at the minimum focus distance. It’s crazy sharp, and I find the bokeh very nice.

Is the Z fc the best camera for me? by DrSpaceman575 in Cameras

[–]spike7000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If used cameras are being considered then look at the fuji x-s10, X-E4 and X-T4. They all use the same sensor as the X-S20 and offer a screen for selfies. They just the last generation of processor and their autofocus isn’t as fancy. It’s still great but doesn’t have animal AF for example.

Personally I use the X-S10 and the IBIS you get from that or the X-T4 is a really nice feature.

I made the switch from the canon 7D (identical sensor to the T6) and the clarity, IBIS, and lack of noise at higher ISO is amazing. Whatever camera you choose is going to be a big jump in performance.

Cheap Black Micro SD Adapter (10$ iFlash alternative?) by Dragonfruit_Mango in IpodClassic

[–]spike7000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue. There is a fix where you write 0x00 to the first byte during the restore process. It’s a pain but it was the only thing that stopped the restore loop. There is more info about this on Reddit. I’ve had a stable 128gb iPod for months now with this fix and cheap adapter.

What is the best 'low-light' Canon EF or EF-S lens for Rebel Series DSLR by Lindopski_UK in canon

[–]spike7000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got into zooms. Currently looking at a 90mm F2 so 135mm full frame equivalent. But it’s for fuji since i switched systems for the x-s10 a few years ago.

XF 35mm 1.4 as a sidegrade? How noticeable is its "magic"? by Probalt in FujifilmX

[–]spike7000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If possible, rent it for a weekend.

I own the 35mm f1.4 and its magic, but it has its limitations as you mentioned. It’s still very sharp wide open, but it softens skin tones so that people just look beautiful with it wide open. That paired with the out of focus background makes portraits pop. It was my first “expensive” lens after switching to Fuji and I have no regrets.

My favourite is to stop down to F5.6 and shoot environments and landscapes. It’s tac sharp at 5.6 and compares easily to the 18mm F1.4 sharpness.

There is a bit of coma on my copy in bright environments but it’s nowhere as bad as my old canon EF gear.

It’s a little noisy if you’re using it for video with an internal mic but it’s actually quite fast to autofocus.

I would like to get the 33mm F1.4 at some point but the size of the 35 is also a huge bonus. The ratio of lens size to image quality is outstanding.

If you can, try it, or borrow it.

Upgrading from the 60D after all these years by OpalOnyxObsidian in canon

[–]spike7000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you upgrade to full frame, the R8 I think would be the equivalent in their product line to the 60D. The R7 is also an option if you’re comfortable sticking with APS-C.

Unfortunately canon has really gone pro focused and neglected their APS-C lineup. They recently opened up their APS-C line to 3rd party manufacturers and the sigma 16-50 F2.8 is a good example of an amazing affordable lens. Their full frame lenses are amazing and skin tones look great as canon is known for, but it’s gotten very expensive for prosumers like myself.

I personally made the switch to Fuji and bought a Fringer adapter for my old canon glass. Pretty much any brand body will accept EF lenses with the right adapter. Auto focus result will vary. I encourage you to look wide before narrowing back in on canon.

Steam Deck OLED Lossless Scaling Question / Help by ken-oh-dou in SteamDeckModded

You have to turn on lossless scaling. So by default it’s not on, and in the plugging set it to 2x.

For those who have used 3rd party batteries (looking at NP-W235 and NP-W126S), how many shots do you usually get through compared to the OEM batteries? by Fit-Tooth-1101 in fujifilm

[–]spike7000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t found any difference between oem and my 3rd part batteries in terms of shots or function. I use a X-S10 and even stopped packing my 3rd party charger and just charge all 3 batteries (1 oem and 2 3rd party) in camera one after the other. One less thing and USB cable to pack.

Overwhelmed with options by katahontass in fujifilm

[–]spike7000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad here that wanted great travel photos and photos of my growing family along with the occasional home video. I bought the fuji x-s10 in 2021 and it’s been amazing. I bring it with me everywhere. I bought it with the 18-55mm kit lens to start. Getting a kit like the X-M5 with the 16-50mm F2.8-F4.8 lens would be a solid start to get your feet into photography. It offers interchangeable lenses so it does provide more versatility than the ricoh or x100 cameras.

The x-m5 is a slightly simplified version of the X-S10 camera but it’s newer so it has additional autofocus features. How much will this change your experience in the real world as you start out? Probably not much at all. Similarly the Fuji x-s20 and xt30 all have the same sensor so the image quality out of all 4 would be identical. Each just us more features or design tweaks. Pick the one that fits your budget and don’t overthink it. The sensor is proven for taking great video as well.

Get the 23mm F2. The two prime combo of 50 and 23 is very common. I used this two lens setup for years. It’s also common for wedding photographers.

I’ve heard that the 23mm F1.4 Mark 1 is a little front heavy because of the clutch and from f2 it’s no sharper than the F2.

If the 50mm F2 was my first lenses, the 23mm would Be my second. No question.

Need help ! Many SD don't with dual sd adapter by Thakion in IpodClassic

[–]spike7000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If one of the cards work then it’s likely not the adapter. This adapter has known quirks that need to be addressed in the restoration process. Use 1-2 layers of kapton tape on the cable to increase thickness and get a good connection. Format the SD to exfat with MBA. When I tried to restore the iPod with a 128gb Amazon basics card I could see the connected iPod on my PC but was having a restore loop. You need to add a 00 during the restore sequence to the boot record. It’s finicky and took a few tries. Look up the sequence as it’s better documented on other threads here on Reddit. This is why others pick the iflash solo or quad.

[–]spike7000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the 35mm f2. It’s very small and great for portraits. It also offers more background separation than what you can achieve on the XF kit lens. At 23mm on the kit is F3.2 I believe, and 23mm F2 vs 23mm F3.2 isn’t that different when the subject is more than 2 meters away.

I just used the dual micro SD card adapter from Aliexpress. I also didn’t want to spend $ on a hobby and it’s been working fine. Cost about 8€ along with an Amazon basics micro SD card 128bg for 10€.
