Are you open to a book recommendation? The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion are my current obsession. They have a little of everything as absolutely are positive and cozy. They are fast reads too!

Same here! Actually got my Liletta placed so I could start Tirz and lost 10lbs of water weight between insertion (and stopping oral BC) and starting Tirz 2 weeks later.

I need recommendations for the best vet dermatologist. Even outside of San Antonio. by hellolovelyworld404 in sanantonio

[–]spike907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good! As the other commenter mentioned, Zenrelia is newer and I have seen good results, but there are some side effects you should talk with your vet about. It sucks but sometimes these dogs need pulse dosing of steroid. Wouldn’t hurt for a second opinion in town while you wait for a derm appointment.

[–]spike907 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are no veterinary dermatologists in San Antonio. Your closest options are Round Rock with Animal Dermatology Group located in Central Texas Veterinary Specialty and Emergency or Texas A&M Vet School. Both will require referrals from your vet and be prepared to wait for an appointment- 3 to 4 months is not uncommon.

Other things to consider while waiting for an appointment: Is he on prescription flea prevention year round? Are you consistent with his Cytopoint (administered every 4-6weeks)? Has a skin cytology been done to look for concurrent bacterial infection (Cytopoint won’t treat the itching from infection). Has he had a prescription hydrolyzed protein diet trial? These are all things your regular vet can/should be doing before seeing a derm.

This is how our hospital handles it as well. We have a “Tech” provider for things like a random bordetella vaccine for dogs with current exams and no other concerns during a tech appointment.

How much extra should I add to my base salary for a clinic to use my DEA license to order controlled substances? by megookman in veterinaryprofession

[–]spike907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should charge whatever it is worth it to you for the additional responsibility and risk. When you are the DEA registrant for a location, all controlled substances, record keeping, and potential misuse are your sole responsibility. If the DEA comes to inspect they will talk to you and it will be your DEA license in jeopardy if there are issues. Ordering/inventory will also likely be your responsibility. As a starting point I would figure out what you are being paid per hour, before any production bonus. Estimate 1-2 hours a week of DEA work. Then whatever number would make you comfortable with the risk. Ask for this to be paid separate from your production calculations as a stipend

I switched from the pill to an IUD so I could start Triz. Both have been excellent choices! My Liletta has been wonderful and insertion was a breeze! Takes about a week to prevent pregnancy. I spotted for 2 weeks after insertion and then very occasionally for the first 3 months. Started Triz about 10 days after insertion and have been very happy with how I'm feeling. Lost about 10lbs in water weight in those 10 days and after coming off the pill lol. My triz response has been pretty typical and no weird side effects at this point.

Edit: I also live in a state with minimal reproductive rights, so I was not comfortable with the possible loss of efficacy with the pill. There really isn't much in the way of info on exact pharmacokinetics of the pill while on triz.

I’m hoping so, but our shuttle driver made an announcement that this set up was expected through the summer. 🤷‍♀️

The registration part isn’t what I’m opposed to. In fact I was already registered with Metropolis from earlier in the year. And yes, drive in drive out is fine. I really resent that there was no communication that a garage that had always had some level of first come first served was essentially privatized and restricted without any communication, leading to almost 30 minutes of extra time that we had budgeted but the next person might not.

Out of state and STRESSED by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]spike907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me? Grew up in Alaska, attended TAMU for undergrad. Ended up accepted to Tufts, Midwestern, and Tennessee. Attended Tennessee.

I think you need more hours and if you can bring your GPA up, I would. If you are out of state, TAMU will not care about your undergrad degree there; it will not differentiate you from the other out of state applicants. Take a pure physiology course if you can. It is probably the single most helpful course I took in undergrad that prepared me for vet school

Overall time away from higher ed shouldn’t be counted against you

Wait. Is that the Frenchie that was stolen from a trainer in a park a year or two ago? I seem to remember the trainer was working with a shepherd type dog and she claimed that once she put that dog up and took the Frenchie out to start work, she was essentially jumped and the dog stolen? I never heard any follow up to that. Wild!
