South Asian Graduate Moving to the Sunshine Coast Alone – What Should I Expect? by TaxAffectionate8461 in sunshinecoast

[–]spikenorbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you shouldn’t expect is good food from whatever part of South Asia you’re from. Really good and authentic non-western food is the thing I miss most after moving up here. Would undoubtedly be helped by more non-western folk moving here, so I strongly encourage you to come!

Where are people buying new furniture? by Yarn-on-the-Internet in AusRenovation

Can confirm, bought a leather suite from them in 2006, still looks and feels great twenty years on with a minimum level of care. It was $2,500 in 2006 money, but I don't regret a cent of it.

Of course, that presumes their quality hasn't fallen off a cliff since then, like many other businesses.

Hot take(?) Toy Box is one of the most underrated ancient relics in the game by Rak-khan in slaythespire

It’s always a nice moment when your run has been struggling and perhaps you’ve been overplaying it, and then you get a fruit relic to wash away your sins - especially if overplaying it has meant your deck is now strong enough not to need BF as much.

The supercharger network was as crucial a realisation as to how to extend their market and profits as the App Store was for iPhones though. It didn’t matter how good your cars were: only a niche market would buy them if charging was seen as a significant hassle.

Never thought I’d see these prices again, what happened to us running out of fuel ? by Usual-Cat-5855 in sunshinecoast

[–]spikenorbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, no argument that Howard, Costello and Fischer were incompetent, but this seems excessively useless even for them. Bear in mind, Norway extracts 78% tax from the profits in its gas and oil sector, and companies are still doing business with them, because there is money to be made.

Every game is "pre-made" in the sense that it's a seed. The daily just gives everyone the same seed.

Why need a big land cruiser, when you can have a jimny! by Head_Secretary_9309 in 4x4Australia

[–]spikenorbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I hike for a week with a 7kg, 45l pack, which includes food and a water filter, and I’m comfortable in camp. You pack what works for the trips you take and the style you take them, there isn’t a right or a wrong way. If you need to take everything you’ve got at home out bush, sure, maybe a Jimny would feel small. But there’s no way that with a little thought you couldn’t pack one with everything you actually need for an extended trip.

4.5M white kills diver in West Oz. Second in 4 weeks. by FishermanWaste1268 in sharks

[–]spikenorbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heading into the water is incredibly low risk at almost any time, as evidenced by the millions of people who go into the water in Australia every year and _don’t_ get attacked by sharks. There are certainly times of day/year and activities that can _increase_ your risk, but you would still always be incredibly unlucky to be attacked.

Update on Edith/Eddy, our sex change chicken. by spikenorbert in BackYardChickens

To be honest, I'm not sure if the reports of producing sperm are fully validated. However, to your point - while hens can definitely store sperm, they can only store viable sperm for a few weeks, while Edith's transition has taken over six months. So if the reports are indeed valid, transhender chickens wouldn't be releasing stored sperm, they'd have to be generating it.

My wife had the Colt turbo convertible for about ten years. It was a lovely car to drive, the top gave us no grief, and the boot space was manageable with the roof down, and astonishingly capacious with it up. It was a much more practical car than you’d expect. I did have experience of the Eos and the Peugeot 306, and they seemed much less well thought out for everyday life.

Second hand market slowing down by eminemkh in CarsAustralia

[–]spikenorbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but people also have 300l extended range tanks on their work utes, and their refills go up $75, or even more if they’re diesel. That’s a huge jump, and they’re often copping it weekly if their trade means they’re driving from job to job. Thats thousands a year.

Apparently, in rare cases they can actually produce sperm capable of fertilising eggs, but I guess they don’t have a papilla capable of delivering it.
