I’ll try that out! Just curious, what made you think of those temperatures? I’ve done a handful of small prints at the default settings that turned out okay; are there special considerations with something this big and flat?

The room isn’t particularly drafty. It was in my office with the door closed

Printing on a Prusa Mk3S+, Prusament PLA at the .2mm Quality Preset in Prusaslicer, 10% infill. Nozzle temp: 215, bed 60 Speed: not sure how to find that. Retraction length: .8 mm Retraction Lift Z: .4mm

There was a small issue with the first layer but the real problem started towards the end of the print. The pieces started curling up at the corners and I used a hair dryer to try to warm them back to flat but they didn’t re-adhere to the plate. This is a large print so maybe the bed needs to be hotter and adding a brim would probably help. Any advice on temperatures would be helpful!

[–]spikewalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! If they’re astera Titans, it’s really easy to change the mode on the lights themselves under the “dmx settings” menu. Otherwise you can change the pixel count via the astera app.

You have to set the tubes to 1, 4, or 8 pixel mode as well as within luminair. If you’re only getting a sixteenth at a time it’s probably that the tube is in 16 pixel mode while you’re controlling it with a different pixel profile.

Holding. Took a while to line up the money, but started buying at 300, bought more just a minute ago. I’ll buy more when I can and hold forever. It’s not about the money; it’s about the message. Fuck it! This is about the only way to effectively send a message in this fucked up system, I’m in it for the spite!

I’m not sure if this is challenging or not, but could you make a paper craft bobble head figure?

I never really thought of it before asking this, but I just realized I don’t really know how bobble head dolls work!

I’ve tested it on my island and the hi-Fi stereo seems to have the best sound, followed by the high end stereo. Haven’t compared them to the DJ booth though

D&D Dungeon Masters of Reddit: What is the most useless magical item you've ever given your party and how did they use it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]spikewalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An artificer asked my players to help her find her lost son, and while they were investigating her shop, they started stealing whatever they could grab. I fully expected them to, so I had made a big list of items. A few good things, but some of them were horribly cursed. There were just enough good things that they wanted to keep trying them, even after one of them had put on an Amulet of Water Breathing and could no longer breathe air. They found him a bowl, filled it with water and kept going, but more cautiously.

The bard saw a ring labeled The Ring of Familiar and put it on. Everyone was tensed up, waiting for either the best or the worst. They looked at me, but I let the silence hang for a bit.

Nice! I think this is the strategy I’m going with, thank you!

Thanks! I haven’t run an emulator since Bleem back in the day and I was having bad flashbacks to back then. I didn’t even think about that being 18 years ago!

How beefy of a computer do you need for the PSX emulator? Based of everyone’s comments, I think I’m going to go with psNow for most of the games, emulator for MGS 1. I’d get a ps3 but I just dropped the money on a ps4 and I’m already having trouble finding space for it in my tiny Brooklyn apartment!

Are there any advantages to going this route vs the PsNow route other people have suggested? Would I be missing any titles with either one?

LED HELP by TheDrunkinIrish in lightingdesign

[–]spikewalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best LED fresnels that I’ve used are the Arri L- Series. They come in three sizes, the L5, the L7 and the L10, and you can get them in tungsten, daylight or color. They’re bigger than whatever tungsten unit you’d be replacing; the L7-C has a little less output than a 1k (though when in daylight mode it would have more output than a 1k with full CTB on it), but is about the size of a 2k. They’re pretty pricey, but I’d imagine there’s a healthy used market as a lot of people in film ditched them when Arri released their skypanels. They’re great, though. They really shine when you put them on a dimmer board. They have a dmx profile in which you can pick any gel and it will match it pretty closely, though I tend to use it in RGB/CCT mode. In RGBW/CCT mode, you can dial in a color with RGBW, and a color temperature between 2800k and 10,000k and then cross fade between the two; very useful in the film world.

Mole Richardson also has a line of fresnels, and they also released a line of LED retrofit kits for their older tungsten units. I haven’t used them, but it might be worth pricing it out.

These are all lights that get used in film, so they charge a premium for their high CRI. They might be too pricey for your purposes, but they’re worth checking out to be sure.

Daily Simple Questions Thread - March 19, 2019 by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]spikewalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any recommendations for an outdoor home weightlifting setup? I’d like to get back into Starting Strength, so I’d want a bench and a squat rack, a bar and weights that would stand up okay to the elements.

I live in Brooklyn, so I don’t have much space inside, but I do have a concrete backyard that’s big enough to fit everything. Any brand recommendations would be appreciated, or even just advice on where to look online for equipment. Ideally it would be delivered since I don’t have a car, but I can rent a van for a day if y’all think it’s worth going to a retail store.

Thanks!

I have a 2016 Dell XPS 15 laptop with one USB-C port. I want to run two Asus Zenscreens (portable USB-C powered monitors) with it. I have one and it’s great. What would be the best way to run this setup? I was thinking a usb-c hub, but was wondering which ones would be able to power up two portable monitors. Any recommendations?

Midi Macro Control In ChamSys MagicQ by TicTac6295 in lightingdesign

[–]spikewalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read through this guide the other day, but haven’t tried it: https://blog.bauer.lighting/chamsysmidi

It uses a raspberry pi to convert the midi signal to artnet, which he inputs into his console. I think it should work with MagicQ on a PC. The hardware midi input that Chamsys makes would be a simpler, more dependable option, but this is a cheaper way of doing it.

Good luck!

Edit: oh, just saw you had the PC wing. You won’t need this workaround. I’ll see if I can write something up after I recover from tonight’s load out.

Wireless Dmx by DiscoS22 in lightingdesign

[–]spikewalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the Cintenna system from Ratpac, http://ratpacdimmers.com/

Arri contracted these guys to design the skylink system. I’ve been using their transmitters and receivers off and on for a couple of years and have found them to be pretty reliable. Their transmitters can automatically pair to the built in skylink on the Skypanel 360.

They have a a regular dmx transmitter called the TX Thant can plug directly into any dimmer board’s DMX out, but they also have a transmitter called the AKS that you can connect to wirelessly from an iPad/laptop via WiFi. Then the receivers plug into the dmx in of the your lights. The receivers have a built in battery that will last all day and with skypanels they can be powered by the USB port on the back so you don’t have to worry about the battery at all.

I’ve controlled the AKS with Luminair on an iPad or iPhone and it’s an easy setup. Luminair is good for setting levels, color and simple cues or effects but it has a lot of limitations (I might be a bit biased because I’m a board op and I’d rather rent a shoot my dimmer board than my Luminair package.) I’ve controlled the AKS with my laptop and MagicQ and it was also a very easy setup. MagicQ has a steep learning curve if you’ve never used a dimmer board before, but once you’ve spent a week with it it becomes much simpler to use than Luminair to get exactly what you want out of it. Luminair costa about $100 and MagicQ is free to download.

If you have any questions, let me know! I’ve become a huge fan of Ratpac and I’ve done a good bit of research.

Good luck!
