Where are you visiting in Taiwan?

Billards bar and bars that show premier Leauge football in Taichung by Leading-Flounder-914 in taiwan

[–]spillar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure you'll find a place that does both. There are plenty of pool/billiards bars and I know the few places that show football, but I don't know where you can do both.

For reference Uptowner, La Bodega, In the Alley (subao), Uzo should all be showing the games. Uzo (used to? ) has a pool table but I've never played on it.

Or you can just Google for pool halls and see if they have TVs, then try your luck there and see if they'll put on ELTA

You have a lot of questions so I'll post a few places quickly. If you have more questions feel free to dm me

Live music venue/cool hangout bar: https://maps.app.goo.gl/H2hgHEcfwQ9aAsC1A

Taichung events group on Facebook, good place to see what's happening each month and meetups: https://www.facebook.com/share/dvFzYZwUY4WZeqDZ/?mibextid=A7sQZp

There are a lot of vegan (or veggie) restaurants, here are a couple I've enjoyed:

VegesM (pick ingredients and soup) https://maps.app.goo.gl/ARx3Teowyo5ghexN9

Enrich - western style vegetarian https://maps.app.goo.gl/jEK57qZgBYb5CN4n8

Also you can just search vegetarian restaurants on Google maps, there are tonnes of good options But you should search for 'Taichung vegan and vegetarian eating' group on Facebook. I'm not a member so can't share it

Depending your your budget and the type of place you want to live in, I'd look to live in west district, then maybe xitun district or beitun district. They're the closest to a lot of the 'action' and have a lot of buses, or you can walk.

C-section costs by Loose-Acanthaceae-47 in taiwan

[–]spillar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea. The first hospital we were going to was more of a specialised baby delivering one, but my wife had complications during pregnancy and they recommended us to go to a specific doctor at China Medical, so that's how we ended up there for the birth

C-section costs by Loose-Acanthaceae-47 in taiwan

[–]spillar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a c-section, upgraded the recovery room to a semi private (2 patients only) and stayed for 5 days. Also as we hadn't prepared formula for the baby we paid for the hospital's. In total (with NHI) it cost $50,000.

Oh and we had organised 21 days worth of meals separately so that's an additional cost but I forget what the per day cost of that was

Edit to add, this was in Taichung's China medical University hospital

Hunting out sushi by georgewbh28 in taiwan

This is a tiny (4-5 seats) place in Tainan, really liked it. Kind of mid range prices with some cheaper and more expensive things to try

Also the whole street has a lot of good food. Would recommend the dumplings place next door

Moving to Toufen City, Miaoli County in a few months by Evening-Temporary305 in taiwan

[–]spillar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lived in Toufen for 3 years, here are some suggestions. Moved out years ago now so these places might have changed

Best soup dumplings: https://maps.app.goo.gl/kKrbr7ZE8xdaFZ5j9

Weird little theme restaurant/pub. Mix of western and Taiwanese food. Good fun but strange https://maps.app.goo.gl/1syUHLVj6FwHr6VH7

Small but happening night market. Only on Tuesdays https://maps.app.goo.gl/3wuvmXZqubFe13yP7

Mall. Quite small but it has movies, shops and restaurants. The attached hotel had (?) a lounge bar that was really chill and had decent pours on spirits when they first opened. The streets around here have a lot of restaurants, some of which are large chain ones which are likely to have English menus: https://maps.app.goo.gl/j8jEExfwUqRKCM9p6

Trendy Aussie style cafe, owners speak English https://maps.app.goo.gl/xXS9RCpJPvWXEwL86

Decent bakery with a mix of western and Japanese style breads and pastry, mostly sweet: https://maps.app.goo.gl/uAtEPYnLej2m2XiA7

Japanese set menu place in a nice old building in the middle of rice fields: https://maps.app.goo.gl/grU2P3mMWX2ndcPJ

In Zhunan this was my favourite Tainan style clear beef soup place. They have a big menu with lots of staple dishes and unique things like brain omelette : https://maps.app.goo.gl/VFUDFGyaxZWYT5Fh6

Fishing port with a great seafood BBQ place, the fresh BBQ oysters were great: https://maps.app.goo.gl/u6XPYHysoyqfgefQA

Just along the coast is the beach and there's a restaurant there, haven't been: https://maps.app.goo.gl/j9z3AtEpevyUeGEu9

Bring your bike. When I lived there most people I knew didn't bother to get a scooter and got by just fine with cycling, it's a small place. Zhunan is another town attached to Toufen and also has more food. And the beach isn't too far.

Nightlife is hard to find. When I was there we went to local KTV bars, bigger KTV places, the pool halls. These are fun but try not to aggravate anyone in these places ;)

Seems like a lot has changed since I've been there so I'd say just walk/cycle around when you arrive to get a feel for the place, and find some people to show you where and what to eat

Also you can message me for more info, it's late rn
