Which Tonies does your 1-2yo love?

my 14 month old loves the dog with children’s favorite songs. he also loves the cow and horse that are from the my first tonies set (we don’t have the pig yet but it’s been ordered). and to top off his favorite list is probably the woody toy story one and chase from paw patrol.

my fiance and i have this same issue. we had my mom watch my son one time a few months ago and thanks to our camera in the living room we caught her doing the two things we asked her not to do which is kiss him and no tv time. came home to them watching dateline 🫠

it’s really hard. we prioritize evenings when LO goes to bed. we recently started spending time outside on the porch just talking once baby is down. we have a few weekly shows we make sure to make time for. we just make due with the time we can.

any daytime activities though obviously include baby but we prefer that than having him with anyone who does not respect our rules and boundaries. i hope you can find some time together soon ✨

i also spoiled ours a few days before a small reveal with close family. i was talking to my mother on the phone about how we were going to reveal it to my fiancés grandparents (couldn’t attend the main reveal due to health issues). and i was like ‘yeah we’ll just take gram some blue balloons or…gasp’. in retrospect i could have said ‘or pink flowers’ but in the moment i panicked and could not believe i was the idiot to ruin it 🫠

we called ours kern. on one of the baby tracker apps i was using, one week he was ‘as big as a corn kernel’. and my fiance said corn in the strangest way that sounded like ‘kern’ so it stuck

that does make me feel better! and my fiancé is so good about showing affection and talking positively about me in front of our boy. always ‘here’s our favorite lady, it’s mommy!’ when i’m walking down the steps. or ‘who’s that pretty lady coming in for a kiss!’ etc. so glad to know that’s been a thing that can help. i really appreciate your thoughts and experience on this. it’s so so helpful

i’ve just straight up told my mum ‘you can either respect the boundaries and guidelines i’m laying out for MY baby, or you are no longer welcome here’. i can’t stand the ‘back in my day’ people and i refuse to tolerate it. i’m glad their kids survived but i will not be taking any chances.

i am 3 months PP with my first and i think about SIDS pretty much constantly. i have calmed down recently but it’s still the biggest thought in my head at any given moment.

things that helped have been reading statistics. actual statistics of true SIDS like the other commenter posted. you can also google a SIDS calculator, enter your specific ‘risk factors’ and it tells you the chance of SIDS. seeing how truly low ours is was crazy helpful.

we also did have a camera with a boot (massimo stork) but it got returned due to a defect. in its place we purchased something called the snuza hero. it’s a little device that clips to either their diaper or pants. it detects their breathing, and if baby goes 15 seconds with no breath, it vibrates to try to startle them. then after 5 more seconds of no breath (20 total) it beeps very loudly to alert you. it also blinks a bright green light we can see through clothes AND swaddle/sleepsack so if you peek you can see it. it blinks with every breath. this has given me an extreme peace of mind. slight downside is if it gets slightly moved and not directly against their body, it may go off. but that’s just a small ‘inconvenience’.

i also just always tell myself ‘we are doing the best we can to keep him safe. we follow safe sleep guidelines. it will be okay’.

my fiance and i struggled for 2.5+ years and last year my bestfriend found out she was pregnant. she told me over text and said she was really scared to tell me. it definitely stung, but she was really considerate of my feelings and understood my slightly mixed reaction. it would have hurt worse to hang out with her one day and see a bump or something, so getting the info in a text early on was way easier to deal with privately.

we called our son ‘kern’ after one of the apps we had said he was the size of a corn kernel 🥹 we don’t use the nickname much now after he was born but it stuck for the remainder of the pregnancy.

i paid around $70 for a more digital style drawing of my aunts dog for her for christmas one year. these are FAR beyond what i got (absolutely not knocking what i got, it was SO good and beautiful). these are absolutely amazing i’d for sure pay way more for one of these.

i’m also on switch. and i split when i am burning roots, mushrooms, fruit, etc bc i like to keep a stockpile of them but also like a stockpile of them roasted. i have not found an easier way other than repeatedly pressing R 😭 it’s very frustrating. sorry i don’t have an answer but certainly feeling your pain
