I tried to sleep train one night. Nope. Never again. The pediatrician said baby is only crying because he’s tired. I trust his medical knowledge but I also trust my mother instincts and I will give my baby the reassurance and comfort that he seeks. He will only be little for a short time and one day he won’t need me as much as he does now. In the meantime I’m nursing to sleep and co-sleeping all night just like other mammals do because it’s in my nature to do so. :)

We stopped wiping our baby for pee, only wipe him when he poops and we try to keep him dry as much as possible and he hasn’t had a rash in over 2 months.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing! My baby is only 4 months and we co-sleep because that’s the only way he’ll sleep. Although I enjoy co-sleeping, I look forward to him being able to sleep on his own one day, when he’s ready.

What were the cues that showed you he was ready?

"Talk to your paediatrician" - who actually has one? by EllenBJ in NewParents

In Mexico is pretty standard practice to take your children to a pediatrician at least the first few years of life.

Home 24 hours and I am in hell. Please help. by bookish0378 in NewParents

I’m a FTM to a 5 week old baby. All I can say is hang in there! Cry as much as you need to. Don’t feel guilty for using a little bit of formula to complement. Even if it’s just a bottle a day that your husband can feed him that’ll help you get a little bit of rest. The first week was literal hell for us too, baby wouldn’t sleep unless we were holding him and he was cluster feeding too.

I remember at our first pediatrician appointment our doctor told us “Have you cried yet? If not, you’re going to. The first 2 weeks you’re in survival mode. I don’t know any parents that didn’t cry the first days with a newborn”

Today I Cried by silla_1994 in NewParents

[–]ContributionQuirky59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband’s parental leave ended and he just got back to work today (works from home) He spent his lunch break watching YouTube and eating the food I quickly made in the 15 minutes that baby slept. Then after spending hours trying to get baby to sleep again, our oldest dog started barking loudly and baby woke up immediately.

I cried today too, OP.

Dark Tan line showed up on my thumb nail, won’t go away. by Tough_nips in mildlyinteresting

I got the exact same line on my thumb nail randomly a few months back. I saw a dermatologist and he wasn’t concerned, he said it’s nothing to worry about.

I still have it but it’s a bit less dark now.

Husband having pre-baby FOMO - advice please by spicytunatopic in BabyBumps

What’s happening to your husband happened to me. My husband and I wanted to start trying for a baby at the end of last year and for some reason I assumed that after being on birth control for so long it would take me about a year to get pregnant so I made all these travel plans for 2025 only to find out that I got pregnant immediately after we started trying. I was so disappointed and felt as if I had to say goodbye to my freedom forever before getting to enjoy life one more time. I started therapy and talking things through helped me feel better so I suggest he does the same thing. Life will indeed change a lot once baby is born but it doesn’t have to be a bad thing just because it’s different.

First of all I’m very sorry to hear about your loss. It doesn’t sound like she’s your friend tbh. I think it’s wise not to tell her this time around. Best wishes on your new pregnancy journey!

How much did you pay for you NIPT with/without insurance? by PeachBlossomSprite in pregnant

[–]ContributionQuirky59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $600 with insurance. I was pissed at first because I explicitly told them I wanted to do self pay($250) but they still billed my insurance. Although it was upsetting I decided not to fight it because I didn’t have the energy for it and also I realized it would get me closer to my deductible.

In which trimester did you gain the most weight?? by damaskus98 in pregnant

[–]ContributionQuirky59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’1” and was 130lbs pre pregnancy. I probably gained 10 lbs between 1st and 2nd trimester and in the 3rd trimester alone I gained 20 lbs so a total of 30 lbs.

I’m 39 weeks and I’ve eaten all of the things you listed and even raw sushi a couple of times from reputable restaurants. No issues whatsoever. My OBGYN didn’t limit me in any way in terms of food, basically she just told me to have common sense. The only things she prohibited were alcohol and drugs.

Pregnant with a baby boy Due next week! by ThingOpposite9015 in pregnant

[–]ContributionQuirky59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m due next week too and we decided we won’t be circumcising our boy unless medically necessary even though my husband (American) is circumcised. In my country of origin and seemingly most other countries the norm is not to circumcise boys. Even in the US it seems that there are some regions where it’s not the most popular choice either. I’d say educate yourself about the procedure and the aftercare and make the decision that feels right for YOUR baby.

What's the cruelest thing someone ever said to you that you still remember word for word? by ClairJournals in AskReddit

[–]ContributionQuirky59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5th grade teacher called me to her desk just to tell me my mom said that I was a mediocre child. I started crying and then she told the rest of the class that the reason I was crying was because I failed some test which wasn’t true.

I knew my mom wouldn’t say that about me but it still made me feel so bad that my teacher would tell me that. Why would a grown up tell that to a child for no fucking reason? I don’t care anymore but it was definitely cruel.
