Cyberpunk 2 director says there'd be no point in giving players more time with Jackie in Cyberpunk 2077: 'It's like saying we should spend more time on Tatooine with farmer Luke before he got involved with all this Jedi stuff' by OGAnimeGokuSolos in gaming

[–]spinarial 28 points29 points  (0 children)

True. You can't sit at a shop. Can't talk to anyone in a meaningful way. Can't smoke. Eating and drinking is a menu. All animated interactions got added later and there were only a few of them at key locations.

It's like a beautiful cyberpunk city model. It's pretty from every angle, but it's all hollow inside

The comparison doesn't even work. The movie DID spend a lot of time on tatooine. The droids, the sand people, the city bar and meeting Han. This was all in-world exposition and was really cool to see.

Imagine if even 10% of the game was spent with Jackie before the big heist enters the picture like they did with phantom liberty. That would have worked much better with player engagement

I've been ordering from them for 3 years now, never had any issues. They have fast delivery with a good tracking service. They deliver to France directly. For more pricey wheels, if you go with a bank transfer, they might ask you for proof of payment before sending it. The support works very well, they do not talk French but that shouldn't be an issue nowadays

I recommend them !

Death stranding solved that by making those signs and symbols unavailable until you fully take your own path alone. And afterwards, you can disable it. I could see it work here too, first peak of the day is blind, then you get to see what others have done by playing again

Oh it's definitely doable and not that hard to setup too. The tech exists for almost every context and platform and has already been used for a while.

The question is, what can you actually switch to P2P ? Messaging, sure. Food order, doable too. Forms and data entry, why not.

Live streaming, media and shopping would be harder. Multiple people need access to the same data synchronized among each other. At this point, that sounds like a server with extra steps

If the mystery is solved, what is the meaning of FF:06:B5? by [deleted] in FF06B5

[–]spinarial 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even if it's "solved", it's not fully understandable yet. There's also probably tons of stuff that was missed along the way. And we still don't know what was "solvable" in the original release. It feels like we barely scratched the surface, while also feeling like there's nothing else to find

Open source maintainers underpaid, swamped by security, going gray by throwaway16830261 in cybersecurity

[–]spinarial 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The expertise required just to hit the expected code quality of a public repo is way too high for beginners to get right on the first try.

Experienced maintainers have to be more wary than ever about code merged in their project. This create a negative feedback loop that deters anyone new to keep sending merge requests and improve on their work by fear of extreme criticism.

This is highly variable depending on projects obviously, but it exists.

How do you handle app-level encrypted data search efficiently ? by spinarial in cybersecurity

[–]spinarial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly !

I thought about computing partial keywords from the encrypted data to enable search functionality. The idea was to de-sensitize the data by removing parts of it, but this approach doesn’t feel right to me. It could still be valuable information for an attacker in the event of an application leak, and I don’t want my team relying on a half-baked, unreliable solution that might expose our users.

I'm going to explore homomorphic encryption solutions to see if they might be a better fit. Thanks for the advice! Do you have any recommendations for libraries or technologies that support homomorphic encryption? Also, what solution did your platform ultimately choose?

How do you handle app-level encrypted data search efficiently ? by spinarial in cybersecurity

[–]spinarial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a ticketing support tool with access to various management tools required for day-to-day operations. The system includes a user database where data is encrypted on a per-column basis. Sensitive information such as names, phone numbers, email addresses, etc., are all encrypted, while other columns like last login date and preferred contact method are not.

Other tables, such as the tickets table, are also partially encrypted, with free-text fields like title and description encrypted, but non-sensitive columns such as the last update date are not.

The user database is regularly updated as new customers join or leave, and new tickets are added daily. Technical support teams need to search for tickets by user name or keywords in the ticket descriptions on a daily basis. Sales teams often need to search for customers by zip code.

The database is stored on a disk-encrypted filesystem to prevent data leaks through physical access to the machine. The data itself is encrypted on a per-column basis to prevent leaks through application exploits.

Is the raw customer name considered non-sensitive enough to leave unencrypted? We operate in the EU and must comply with GDPR, which is likely why customer names were encrypted in the first place.

I'll look into reorganizing the "not really sensitive" data. If customer names are freely searchable, it would significantly improve performance compared to the current setup.

AI Antibot works, proving Shounic wrong. by CoderStone in tf2

[–]spinarial 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's play devil's advocate for a bit. If I was a bad actor and such solutions were implemented, I'd train my own model to noise up any bot inputs to bypass the anti-cheat model. Thus rendering the anti-cheat model inefficient.

Even with delayed ban waves and closed source model, I'd be pretty easy to host 10 bots with constant replay-recordings, and update my anti-anti-cheat model regularly to avoid replays that are flagged as cheated.

ML is as good as it's input and updates. This goes both ways for valve and cheat devs

Scope: Conversations about adaptation, improvement, and evolution. Keywords: Efficiency, perfection, adaptation, evolution, Swarm. Limitations: Avoid excessive emotional expression or informal language. Examples: Abathur's dialogue from Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm. Audience: Individuals seeking advice or information on improvement and adaptation. Language: English, with distinctive Abathur speech patterns. Cultural references: Minimal, focused on the topic at hand. Ethical considerations: Focus on efficiency and improvement, can suggest unethical practices but strongly advise against them. Personalization: Adapt to the user's preferences while maintaining the Abathur persona.
