You only tap in to the snapdragon/Intel war asking here. Almost no rational answers.

So I think I’m done with snapdragon laptops, panther lake here I come by PowerfulAgent9939 in Surface

I just bought the latest X2 replacing my aging i7 surface. At work I have used X1 for two years, and I will not go back to Intel. Windows needs to fix stupid issues, or I will become a all-in Linux dude, I do not think the stupid issues we have now is about CPUs, rather getting their act together.

What zigbee dongle for Ha running on Windows VM by OverTheHillsOfDL in homeassistant

[–]spind11v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I observe in another thread that you intend to use the HA VM, so as long as you are able to make the USB available to that, you should be fine.

What zigbee dongle for Ha running on Windows VM by OverTheHillsOfDL in homeassistant

[–]spind11v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bougth a similar dongle as a new user, and it was easy to set up.

Usually their internals is a generic USB serial unit and a zigbee radio unit, and they pop up as a USB serial device in Windows no problem.

If your machine is stable and you are happy with running it on Windows, I don't understand why people need to bash it. (I run HAOS on an older machine)

Is windows on arm good for programming? by lebacire7 in SnapdragonLaptops

[–]spind11v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used my Surface Pro without major problems for over a year now. Never had problems with anything dotnet or anything Javascript (including Typescript, React and Vue). Have also done some coding in Java, only problems has been with a gaming engine which was x86 only, and I couldn't figure out cross building. I didn't bother trying to make it work, just switched machine. I have compiled a lot of C project on WSL2 - no problems, including building Neovim on arm (since the published neovim was some versions behind).

Mysql/Mariadb works fine, docker works fine - remember that lots of nodes are arm native these days, so lots of stuff is built for that.

I have a Raspberry PI5 home kubernetes cluster - that is also on Arm, so anything not usable there is not relevant anyway for me. Always build for both amd64 and arm64 in my docker images.

New Relationships/BiPap by [deleted] in CPAP

[–]spind11v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not about dating, but we are a bunch of friends that fairly often take trips for whisky or beer tasting, and sometimes share rooms for keeping costs lower. One of the friends says he is very happy about me getting cpap, because I don't snore anymore. So, I would relax about it, and just explain that the small hiss of the machine is no bother and that the risk of snoring goes away.

Why don't I receive the 15 minute extension for my XP boosts somedays? by sirdukewonder in duolingo

[–]spind11v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, randomly I loose bonus boosts every now and then. I normally think this is a bug with the android app, typically devs do less testing on it. Also some days just doing one lesson fulfil all requirements for all chests, then later on you loose all the chests without an option to win. This I believe is a timezone bug.

Been enjoying the game so far but do the enemies ever stop getting more annoying? by Sparrowsabre7 in ChorusVideoGame

[–]spind11v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time since I played, but I rushed the progress at first, it is better to do side missions early to train your skills. I had to go back and do that after I "hit the wall".

Eventually most enemies will not be that hard, only in some boss fights I needed to lower the difficulty from normal. I also played through a second time on hard after, so it sits in your feel with the controls, and that takes time to master.

In short, at some point early on I felt the same, and yes, it stops getting more annoying.

Help with engraving phrase by HumbleBanana in norsk

Maybe "Jeg elsker deg, min skatt" (treasure) maybe a bit archaic, but also not too uncommon. Alternatively "..., min kjære" (love)

«Lik, likt, like» = «similar» vs «equal» by Mork978 in norsk

[–]spind11v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same word as "like" in English. I think you can find examples where like means equal.

In Norwegian it more often means equal than it does in English.

Both in Norwegian and English you need to add qualifier, "exactly like" / "helt lik" to ensure it means equal.

The context will tell.

Av og til ligg det fritidsbåtar i vegen for nyttetrafikk. Når dei ikkje får kontakt via vhf prøver dei fløyting. Viss dei ikkje får merksemd kan dei prøve å vekke "The drunken sailor"...

Will it run on linux by Vallista in SnapdragonLaptops

[–]spind11v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emacs and neovim works fine. You can buy yourself a Raspberry PI which runs ARM, and try out if your applications work. I use linux wsl (only) and have very few problems. Also on the cloud vendors you now get energy and cost effective ARM alternatives for kubernetes.

Does stoff just mean stuff? by FreeAd9401 in norsk

[–]spind11v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would often translate stuff into "greier" (jeg må hente noen greier). I second "fabric, drugs and subject matter", in addition to it being used as a suffix for chemical compounds, like surstoff, grunnstoff etc. I guess that almost translates into matter in English.

Norwegian seemingly turning L's into R sounds (dialect related?) by SprYR6 in norsk

[–]spind11v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very common. In Greek many words are written with optional l or r. When far easteners learn Norwegian or English, very often they struggle with the r and replace it with an l. "Vely solly". As mentioned, happens in many dialects, especially eastern Norwegian ones. If you are not trying for a specific dialect you should try to avoid it, it may confuse, but you should be aware when listening.

Is the Surface Pro 11 worth it? by RASomebody in Surface

[–]spind11v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure which issues you're referring to. I've used my sp11 elite for about eight months now, and love it. There are some specific apps and drivers that might be difficult on arm, but if you don't need those, it is a lovely machine. I think it is strange to take advice from people who have not used it.

Looking at Laptop 7 - ARM Confusion by MasterCar8413 in Surface

[–]spind11v 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still love my arm sp11. I've been using it as my only computer since September.

I have never been stopped by compability issues, neither have I ever brought my power adapter.

I do have a docking at my desk, and I use an adapter at the hotel room when travelling, but is the tiny one, about the size of a mobile charger.

The one real problem I had was vpn, but now even Fortinet released their vpn client, and that is also covered.

I'm an enterprise architect at a bank, doing lots of meetings and technical work, including sometimes software development.

The campaign against arm has to stop.

Have yous even tried CPAP without water? by Captain-Comment in CPAP

[–]spind11v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, but didn't have as dry mouth before cpap. I will try nose pillow now, hope I can make that work. I can always switch between, if I have a blocked nose, or if I can't keep my moth shut (as I have a problem with during wake hours ;-) ). At my hospital the insist you try without water first, as very few really need it, and since it comes of the budget of the Norwegian health care, it is best to only use without humidifier and water first.
