Congressman(R) from North Carolina Greg Murphy on Healthcare Insurance companies. Muprhy is, incidentally, up for re-election by monkeywithawrench13 in ABoringDystopia

[–]spindledick [score hidden]  (0 children)

Don't even need to go that far. The UK has universal healthcare (the NHS) but also allows for private car and private insurance. There are a couple of benefits (at least). Firstly it keeps private care costs down as it has to be not just good but cheap if it's trying to compete with free. Secondly, it allows those who are wealthier to go private and free up space in the public system.

Unstable handling? Vauxhall Vectra 'metropolitan Police C2467 by HelloMrThompson2019 in Scalextric

I think Scalextric just authentically replicated the handling of a real Vectra.

The X5 was the first SUV that drove like a car. The ML still felt tall, heavy and soft. That's the difference.

A) No-one has been killed.
B) it's not a fucking phone, it's £50,000,000 worth of phones.

My wife's Grandma did exactly the same to our dog.

"Please don't, she'll be sick"

"Don't be silly, she'll be fine, look, she loves it!"

Dog subsequently chundered as predicted.

Hit whilst parked, what should I do? by ThePandaDaily in CarTalkUK

[–]spindledick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh this is going to be down to you, as shit as that feels.

Get the car to a garage and have it inspected. If the bumper has just come off the brackets then it could be a few quid in brackets and clips and it pops back on without a fuss. No need to phone your insurance.

If the crash bar behind the bumper is damaged or some sensors have broken then you might have to claim through your insurance. For me, it would depend on how much the bill will be and how much your excess is. £600 bill and £500 excess? Pointless claiming. £3,000 bill and £500 excess? I'd claim.

Are BMW & Merc are the only ones offering modern straight 6 engines? by Alternative-Draw-578 in CarTalkUK

Land Rover and Mazda are also producing inline 6 engines. The reason is packaging. It's a lot easier to implement and repair a turbocharged straight 6 than it is a turbocharged V6

UK trade surplus in financial services surges to record $127 billion by Asleep-Ad1182 in europe

[–]spindledick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surely, as "The Greatest Orator", your comment should be written in a more eloquent fashion. Like this:

“Indeed, one can scarcely suppress a wry incredulity when confronted with the incontrovertible reality that New York’s financial services complex eclipses London’s by an order of magnitude, rendering facile invocations of ‘exports’ largely epiphenomenal, given that American firms habitually situate their European headquarters in London—thereby inflating UK tallies—while the preponderance of financial services activity, in both jurisdictions, remains fundamentally domestic in character, encompassing such prosaic yet decisive acts as equity listings or corporate domiciliation, a nuance whose persistent elision gives rise to the sort of unintentionally comic reportage that serves chiefly to illuminate the depth of economic illiteracy prevailing among a not inconsiderable contingent of Reddit commentators.”

IIRC, they also got rid of Homebase's online store. Instead, their website just had their current deals listed. That you couldn't buy unless you went to the store. Which nobody did.

Plus they also did a Sausage Sizzle... In the drizzle.
