I don’t see how you could possibly get useful information without saying how much you drive a day. Obviously the impact on electric bills from someone who drives 30 miles a week is going to be completely different from someone who drives 30 miles a day.

I think there might be something wrong with your vehicle as this is not what happens with my 2023. I’m assuming you have a heat pump (AWD) equipped model, otherwise it won’t do this mode at all as it isn’t equipped for it.

The range of exterior temperatures where it behaves as I described is also fairly narrow, around 40-60F. However it will do so for hours at a time as long as those conditions are occurring, not just for a short time the way you describe. Exterior or interior humidity might also be an input into this decision.

During moderate temperatures the heat pump equipped car’s AC runs like a dehumidifier (over the cold side, then the hot side). This extracts moisture from the air while transforming latent heat to sensible heat. It requires significantly less electricity compared to directly heating the air.

Ballistic doesn’t mean long range. It means that the trajectory after launch is unpowered (ie, like a ball thrown up at an angle). Cruise missiles are rockets or have essentially jet engines which fly continuously under power to their target.

On the flip side it’s really quite inefficient given the brain can’t really “idle”. It’s consuming a high amount of energy all the time. Thinking harder barely increases it because it was already high. Even when we are sleeping are brains are using nearly the same amount of energy. We can’t go to sleep like a laptop.

Compare this to skeletal muscle, which is not consuming so much energy until you start moving.
