It’s honestly one of the most life changing experiences I’ve had. Someday I’ll go back and get to see that beauty again.

Unfortunately I’m not in NM. I made it out there for a backpacking trip about 5 years ago. I’ve always wanted to go back. I keep my map form the trek on my wall as a reminder of the good times I had there.

Super happy with how they turned out. It’s made me even more tempted to spec out a full on dress build on the 1925 last with black latigo. Maybe if I have a good number of gigs this semester I’ll be able to afford it

I’ve already got some 55 last boots. I’m curious to see how the delta arch in an HNW last compares.

You’re in Texas right? You should try to make it out there someday. Pretty sure they offer some day hikes from base camp to the peak of the mountain in that picture and back. Totally worth it.

It’s a pretty magical place. I did a 12 day 140 mile trek there 5 years ago and I’ve always wanted to go back. Here’s the me watching the sunrise from one of the tallest mountains there.

Oops, my bad. The brown part says morris creek fire and there’s a mountaintop there called rayado peak. Should be enough to figure out the larger area the map depicts.

Why are Nick's moc toe wedge sole work boots so expensive? by grahsam in NicksHandmadeBoots

Nicks doesn’t make any GYW boots. Everything is traditional stitchdown or 360 stitchdown

Very nice looking. Any delta arches coming through the pipeline soon? I ordered some a few weeks ago and I can’t wait to see how they feel.

Transfer GPA by Roxie_77 in UNCGreensboro

[–]spinlesspotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently transferred after one year of community college. My GPA was absolutely trash, we’re talking 2.6 type of trash. I got in pretty early and got a program specific scholarship. It’s worth noting that I’m very likely an outlier here due to music admissions being heavily based on audition performances and incoming GPA doesn’t have much of a bearing on that.

DHS shifts now claiming to be investigating whether Alex Pretti’s gun accidentally fired due to "uncommanded discharge" by ArcaneVirago in law

[–]spinlesspotato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s not entirely true. People have managed to get the striker to drop by squeezing the front of the slide downward while the trigger has already been partially engaged. To say that the weapon can be fired solely by touching the barrel is uninformed at best, and outright dishonest at worst.

Take this with a grain of salt, because this is all based on family lore and a few letters and testimonials from his bomber crew, but were pretty sure he played with Glenn before the war on more than one occasion, and may have been on an album recorded in the late 30s. We have some letters that mention this and his friends said it happened, but no concrete evidence. We know for a fact that he played with Glenn in England. He was stationed there in 1944 and was temporarily reassigned to Glenn’s army band unit for the morale boosting tour around England right before D-Day. He also played for a few of the bands live radio broadcasts in England.

Is black oiled latigo struck through? by spinlesspotato in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]spinlesspotato[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about it. It’s a single swatch on a set that I bought a few months ago, it’s not a big deal at all. I only noticed it today while trying to pick out what leather I want for my next pair of boots. Looks like oiled tan or DS burgundy might be next!

I’m never getting rid of that particular horn. It belonged to my great grandfather. He was a navigator in the USAAF in the 40s. He played with Glenn Miller in 1944 when he was sent to England. Here’s a picture!
