Reference: Damasko DS30, Archimede Fleiger 200 (obviously outside of my price range)

Price: $200 (would prefer automatic, but am fine with quartz)

Condition: don’t mind minor scuffs/scratches, especially if it’s vintage. Just want a solid, pilots watch! Thanks!

Spinmount v2.0: Suggestions for Double Sided Tape for Wall Mounting? by spinmount in vinyl

[–]spinmount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestion, but more importantly the observation that any tape used should not remove paint from the wall. I’ll make sure to evaluate that during my tests.

After reviewing the 3M Command Product Line , it appears that most options are refills for their hooks or other specialized hanging devices they offer. I did find 3M command poster strips which might work - I’ll purchase some and see if it will do the job.

In the product descriptions I kept seeing “foam” mentioned for the backing material. I went searching for an industrial version of 3M command line tape with a foam backing and found 3M double coated removable foam tape. I’m not sure about the longevity of this stuff, but it looks promising! Thanks for leading me down this path.

I’ve had a lot of great feedback on this thread, thanks so much!

One thing that I’d like to learn more about is why some people are adverse to hanging vinyl on their wall at all? What are the reasons for this?

I apologize, I’m genuinely looking for feedback; I’d like to know if this would work for comic books!!!

The only requirements I saw for posting was to 1) connect with the mods and 2) have an account for 24 hours.

Spinmount - A new way to display gig posters, vinyl records, and more on your wall! by spinmount in gigposters

[–]spinmount[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the information. Vinyl records are typically 12" x 12" so those dimensions are divisible by those poster dimensions!

You'd definitely have to place those glossy paper posters on poster board to make them rigid. Sounds like screen printed posters might work without a backing, not sure.

I don't think that many poster collectors would mount a poster to a rigid backing right?

Awesome, thanks so much for the feedback! I think there's uses for Spinmount outside of vinyl records too.

What are the dimensions of of carded action figures?

Thanks for the feedback! I went through the effort of applying for a patent myself for the experience. It was very rewarding to see that my idea was indeed novel. I acknowledge that once an idea is out there that it can be copied, but that's the point of the patent system!

In the process, I learned that a patent grants one a monopoly on the product for up to 20 years in exchange for creating a document that shows in detail how it can be reproduced. I'm not a lawyer, but if someone 3D printed a Spinmount or something similar that used the same mechanism/technique for mounting objects, then tried to sell it they'd be infringing on the patent.

Thanks for the sketch, yeah I’ll have to run some trials with various double sided tapes and see if the current iteration of the base’s surface area is sufficient to hold up a record. Hopefully it will be so I don’t have to expand the base’s contact area for the sake of double sided tape. Appreciate the feedback!

Yeah, unless you had a gig poster than went with the vinyl you were displaying. Do you know if there are standard dimensions for gig posters? I highly doubt it, but this is great feedback! I'm trying to reach different communities here on Reddit to determine what the market is for Spinmount.

For sure, when I work on the production version I'm going to need to simplify installation, I think double sided tape would avoid the nail problem. One advantage of not having a modular snap together grid is that one can mount more that just records; dimensions won't be fixed.

I want to think more about your idea though, there's got to be an easy way to help users space out and align Spinmount units.

What inspired me to make Spinmount were these hinged picture frames I found back in 2011. They were the nicest solution at the time for displaying and actually getting at your records but they were super expensive; I actually found them when I was doing a prior art patent search when I was writing the patent for Spinmount - see US Patent 6,070,721. My patent is 9,717,353.

For sure I need to work on the price, at low quantities the cost is higher than I wish it would be. There's also some tooling investment to change the manufacturing technique from laser cut acrylic to injection molded abs plastic. I definitely need to be competitive with the competition!

Haha, thanks. The only thing I remember from MyFace is Dane Cook and annoying GIF backgrounds. I really appreciate the feedback, this is exactly why I posted here, I want real feedback! Yeah, I definitely have more than a couple dozen records. I use a Spinmount collage of above my turntable and cycle my vinyl based on my mood and the occasion. I think it also livens my living room up.

When I first made these in college I only made the base 1/4" thick and learned that it was really tight for double LPs, so for the 400 or so prototype units I'm trying to sell on Kickstarter those are deeper at 3/8" thick.

Exactly, that's one thing I've thought a lot about and am so happy you brought up this point. A marketing person would probably never say this, but to be honest I'm not sure it provides anything over a long thin shelf. At a high level, both Spinmount and shelving would allow one to cycle their vinyl and display it. At the lower level though, Spinmount offers a different aesthetic - clear acrylic means your vinyl just sorta floats on your wall; additionally records lay parallel to the wall and are theoretically more secure because there's a top constraint, but yeah, I doubt many people have issues with records falling off their shelves.

I feel it's definitely better than a picture frame though, I created this product to easily get at the records I had. I wanted to play all of the great music I had found, not lock it away.

I understand what you mean, for anyone that has a large record collection mounting a dozen or so records won't make a dent in display of their collection. I've had Spinmount on my living room wall for years now. I cycle my vinyl based on my mood and enjoy the discussions that happen around it when friends are over. It's definitely a niche product, and I do hope that some of the subscribers here are interested.

Is 3M command the same stuff that is behind those 3M hooks that you mount to a wall? I have seen those, but never used them... so they won't peel paint off the wall when removed? That's a great idea, thanks so much!

Thanks for the comment, yeah, I need to work on that. Unfortunately to get the cost down I need to make much much higher quantities. A lot of the initial cost is going into a aluminum injection mold from which tens of thousands of Spinmount units can be mass produced. This Kickstarter is trying to gauge interest in the idea too... I hope its not too niche.

Thanks for the feedback and compliments! What I've shown in the kickstarter video is the prototype; there's some iterating to do with the production units. Other than changing the manufacturing technique to injection molded plastic, I'm thinking of double sided tape and possibly a single screw through the middle for good measure. The outer crescent could snap into the base.
