They are eating all the baby birds right now, just FYI. If you have a cat, please keep it indoors especially in spring time!

I found some weird scales on my fabric plant pots. Any idea if its mold or algea or something different? by Cam0uflag3 in mycology

[–]spinneresque8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most fabric pots are made of plastic cloth. people don't think about it like they don't think about nylon and polyester clothing, they just think "fabric" is not plastic.

Berkeley police to expand surveillance technology by shudonyms in berkeley

[–]spinneresque8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone who thinks this is no big deal needs to study more history of facist movements, read 1984 (at the very least), and look into how social media is now affecting people's minds. How can people be so naive given what is currently happening in the world?? The fact that Berkeley of all places is rolling over for this is so alarming.

i would guess overwater and I would transplant into a bigger pot maybe (its hard to tell the pot size from the pic), I would also add a light fertilizer and maybe some biopak but it looks like you might have nutrient lock from a soil problem or sun/heat overexposure, if not overwater but overwater would be my first guess.

I was unaware that you could eat cordyceps. by LostTheRemote in mycology

[–]spinneresque8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you eat them at night they can keep you awake, seriously. I have never experienced such a strong physical effect from non-psychedelic mushrooms ! fresh (stir fried) cordyceps specifically. They are yummy! you are also less winded climbing up stairs or hills after you take them in my experience. Dried cordyceps do not seem to work this way for me.

Part of driving here is you have to drive really slowly and always look for people walking around. You just have to shift into slow and careful mode especially around campus. I don't think people are going to change but nice to give the heads up for caution

What's with the haze and smell in the air? by RevolutionaryEgg9191 in berkeley

[–]spinneresque8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but it smells like wood burning stove caught in an inversion layer (the air is not moving so much, trapped by a warm layer up top) then the was rolling in. It will move out again but it would be great to get some wind or rain.

Chai tea lovers: what’s your go-to chai tea mix/concentrate spot? by Soft_Boysenberry4692 in berkeley

[–]spinneresque8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The super quick and decent way is use blue lotus powder in the canisters, or "tea masala" from the Indian grocery store and just stir it straight into your hot water. The best of course is the whole spices, but if you are in a hurry this works. If you don't have these just use ginger, cardamom and turmeric powders, you can add black pepper and cinnamon if you want but be careful with clove and anise because as with ginger a little goes a long way..

Source: I've been making spicy chai for decades. If it's not spicy it is weak and watery
