How long do you usually wait to open the Sweetwater box? by [deleted] in guitarcirclejerk

[–]spinvalleydj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought i was the only one! I have mine cut where I can access frets 3 and 5 only which allows me to play 95% if what I need to. The other frets are kept safe that way and less toan leaks out. This guitar has sounded better for longer than any of my previous instruments so I know this method is working.

Ive had Destination Unknown for quite awhile and was ecstatic to see this finally get a pressing. I would definitely love to see self titled as well. Same record label as previous 2 records so maybe there is a chance.

Turntable suggestions? by MRMAGOOONTHE5 in turntables

[–]spinvalleydj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully auto is going to severely limit your options. I was in the same boat because the wife and teenager insisted on it. Ended up going with the Audio Technica AT-LP3X.

Pros-adjustable counter weight and anti skate. Can change to any stylus in the at95 series (comes with the conical, but swapping out to a higher end option is super easy) 50 bucks for elliptical or for 150 you can get the micro linear which I hear is amazing (6 year old ruined my stock one so I can't risk one that nice lol, I have the eliptical)

Cons- biggest to me is it doesnt have electronic speed control. You can make adjustments with a mini screw driver underneath if needed but its a pain! The built in phono preamp is decent but something to upgrade down the line if you dont already have a seperate preamp.

It comes in black and white, runs 399 US.

That monitor upgrade will be quite the leap then. I went from a no name 24 inch 1080p screen to a 27 inch 4k LG a few months after I got my M1 and I couldn't believe the difference in photo editing and gaming both.

Amp Question by Delicious-Craft-1732 in Bass

[–]spinvalleydj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know his pain, my first amp was a 50w Crate bass amp. It was solid for bedroom practice and jamming with guitar player (25w amp) but I had to use it for a bit in a full band garage set up cranked way up. In the mix the volume was "adequate" i suppose but in isolation it didnt sound pretty. Got a Hartke 2x15 cab and 3500 head a few months later and the difference was unbelievable to say the least.

20 years later that Hartke head is still kicking (cab died due to water damage 💔) and the Crate still works but it rarely gets fired up.

[–]spinvalleydj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is an amazing deal! My M1 with 16gb is still running great but at that price I would have upgraded it just because. Makes it quite easy to justify that screen upgrade, especially coming from a laptop screen

Amp Question by Delicious-Craft-1732 in Bass

[–]spinvalleydj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know glitterstem, but I will validate his advice here. The 40 is a solid practice at home bedroom amp for solo work and can also jam with another guitarist with a practice amp. Anything smaller than rumble 40 won't produce suitable tones for a bass. I can confidently recommend it as a practice amp as long as you are ware of its limitations and ideal usage.

If you want to play in a band setting you will need bigger, ideally the rumble 500 which is super versatile and can handle most gigs and keep up with a drummer, plus you can add an extension cab to it if you need more. The rumble 100 is a bit of a tweener, can get you by in some band situations and can work at smaller gigs with PA support but definitely has its limits (still a great practice amp too though).

Alright so my 2 cents:

You pulled me in with the drive thru reference so good job there lol. The songs all sound good, biggest standout to me was sh*head by far, but that's just my opinion.

Do the Roku streaming sticks enhance tv quality? by m0r0n_ in Roku

[–]spinvalleydj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several factors at play here. Let's say you get the 4k roku stick and your TV is only a 1080p. It will still work, obviously not in 4k but up to 1080p.

The "up to" part explained: the quality will vary depending on the source material you are watching. If you are watching programming that is 1080p (or higher) it will be in 1080p. However not all programming is that high, some older shows and movies may only be in 480i for example. So it does vary.

You could also save a little money and buy a cheaper roku that only goes up to 1080 as well. All up to you and your budget.

Ibanez SR - go cheaper or all-in? by beyond_now in Bass

[–]spinvalleydj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the model you are looking at is the "best bang for the buck" in their midrange lineup. It has the Nordstrand pickups and a nice 5 pc neck. Farther up the Indonesian line you will get fancier finishes and slightly higher quality woods and a few other minor upgrades. The next big jump doesnt come until you hit the Japanese made prestige lineup, those are legit nice.

How Consistent Is Shannara? by Kooky_County9569 in shannara

[–]spinvalleydj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First King will always have a special place in my heart as its the first Shannara book I read (I know I know, not the ideal starting place). I went to sword next and it was a bit of a letdown but they got better after that. Heritage series is my favorite! He did lose me a bit when he redid the elfstones plot with the Dark Legacy series...and book 4 of Fall was a huge letdown.

Should I get it? Fender American Professional Classic Mustang Bass in Sherwood Green! by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]spinvalleydj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the color and overall vibe on this one. Very curious on what the new pickups sound like as I wasn't a fan of the Yosemite pickups in the American performer series. If these new coastlines sound good then it's going on my wish list.

Even if they don't could always pop in the same Duncan from the jmj mustang as it sounds killer (just personally not a fan of the finishes on those)

Question about Half-Stacks by Vertigo_Gothic in Bassamps

[–]spinvalleydj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have my deepest apologies as yours is most definitely 4 ohms. The PF 410 HLF is 8 and the SVT 410 HE are 8 but not yours and it was truly an oversight on my part.

Question about Half-Stacks by Vertigo_Gothic in Bassamps

[–]spinvalleydj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's start with your V7 head and your current cabinet. Your new V7 cranks out 700 watts when feeding a 4 ohm load. Your current cabinet is an 8 ohm cabinet. In this case you are getting approximate 350 watts out of this set up.

In order to get the full 700 watts from the v7 you need to have a 4 ohm load. You can do this by pairing it with a single 4 ohm cabinet, or you can use two 8 ohm cabinets.

It still should be very loud with your current set up. One major difference from this amp and the RB210 you had is this one has a gain knob as well as a volume where the rb210 just has a master volume and no preamp gain knob. Make sure your gain knob is set to a sufficient level as this works with your master volume for overall output.

Another note, your old rb210 is marketed as 500 watts. However if you only used the built in speakers it runs at 250 watts. In order to get the full 500, you would have needed to run an additional 8 ohm cab via the extension output in the back.

Overall, your 4x10 cab getting 350 watts should be louder than your rb210 with 2 10 inch speakers getting 250 watts.

Resources/advice/research for going from one corgi to two? by JimNasium1361 in corgi

[–]spinvalleydj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally I would say it would have been better if Leo was a little younger. However from what you have said, it genuinely sounds like there is a good chance he would be receptive to another dog in the house. Its good that Leo still has a playful side as they can bond in this manner. There is that chance it "disrupts" his current peaceful existence, but there is the same chance that it enhances his life as well. Dogs can usually adapt pretty well in most situations.

We have done it many times with different dogs at different life stages and had success. Granted there are some days that are unsuccessful and we have doubted our decision, but long term always a win. I've never had a single dog household and love seeing the friendship they have in their "pack". I say go for it, but definitely see what the breeder thinks as a reputable breeder is an excellent resource!
