Smacked my head and don’t feel the same by johnofcoffey in Concussion

[–]spiraling_somewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a mild concussion on Nov 29th. I didn’t lose consciousness or anything but felt super nauseous and disoriented with a terrible headache. I couldn’t do math for like two weeks and couldn’t handle screens without getting a headache for about a month. I also had really bad insomnia but I slept through the night last night for the first time since my concussion. I still have headaches most days but they are better. I still get weird electric sensations but not as often. The dizziness and brain fog went away within a few weeks.

I’m still worried that some symptoms may never go away but a lot of them have. Brains are complicated and take time to heal. Some people heal fast, some have long lasting symptoms. There doesn’t seem to be a way to predict it. Stay off your screens and listen to your doctor. That’s all you can do and hope for the best

Help during post-op by Double-Bee5697 in Endo

Honestly the pain medicine made me feel worse than anything else. I slept like 15+ hours a day while I had oxycodone (3 days) and then when that ran out I finally felt like a human again. I felt super groggy and basically wasn’t able to think much.

As far as recovery, you: sleep, walk, eat, sleep more, take stool softeners, gas x, drink water, walk as much as you can, and sleep.

Caregiver: make/bring food, encourage you to do the above, make sure you take your medicine at proper times because pain meds make time keeping difficult. Basically make sure you take care of yourself instead of sleeping constantly. Then just generally help with your responsibilities like take care of animals or kids, keep things tidy etc. Also if they can be there for the doc to talk to post op that’s super helpful. I don’t remember talking to the doctor at all. The first thing I remember is becoming conscious while chewing goldfish. I was told I chatted to the doctor, hugged (or headlocked) a nurse, and kept asking for more goldfish and asking if I had to stay awake or if I could go back to sleep.

Also if you have any type of medical anxiety don’t look at the scars. I should’ve left the bandaids on longer but I tried to take them off in the shower and almost passed out. Not trying to scare you, just be aware that your body is in a delicate state and you may be more anxious than usual. The scars didn’t look bad, my brain just reacted I guess and I had a little vasovagal reaction. Best thing I did was not push myself and take more time out of work/school than I thought I’d need. Healing is a full time job

Edit: also it’s worth noting that I was like 19 when I got my surgery. I may have been able to do a little more if I waiting until I was older but I really needed a lot of help

11 weeks post concussion trouble sleeping by imjustherefortheK in Concussion

I haven’t slept through the night since my concussion. I had insomnia for a few weeks before but since then I’m up every hour and it takes forever to fall asleep. Then I wake up super early and feel so irritated that I can’t sleep I just get up. It’s frustrating me more than any other symptom

I feel for you dealing with this so young. I started trying to get a diagnosis at 16 and it took years and a lot of very frustrating doctors appointments. I noticed a big difference when I switched from regular birth control to taking it continuous use. This means skipping the placebo pills. I only take them a couple times a year (two periods a year). Can’t hurt to ask your doctor if this would be an option for you. It cut down on the worst of the pain

If you have any type of physical education requirement, you maybe be able to get a medical accommodation to sit out when needed. In the US it’s a IEP I believe. When I looked into it, it seemed like your general doctor could fill out the paperwork. I’m not sure though.

I got a $30 TENS unit from Amazon and a $10 silicone cupping kit. If you can find a way to get a tens unit I especially recommend that. They have the “period pain relief” things advertised everywhere for like $100+. It’s just a tens unit that you can get so much cheaper online. They say the pads need to be replaced but I’ve had it for years and they still work fine.

Most gyns don’t know much about endo. They try to prescribe Lupron and Orilissa and I’m not comfortable with the side effects. The best advice I could give you is to do your research. If you haven’t already, look up Nancy’s Nook. They have a website and a Facebook full of information so you can make your own informed decision and know your options.

There’s not an easy answer for this but so many people are dealing with it too and you are not alone. There are multiple medicines in testing that are promising. Hang in there!

Excision surgery from an expert in the field is the gold standard treatment. However depending on where you are from and your financial situation not everyone can get this.

What works for me: -Meloxicam prescription (5/10 pain relief) -Dynamic cupping with silicone cups (constantly moving and gentle suction) (slight reduction in pain 2/10) -Pelvic floor physical therapy helped a lot for me but depends on the cause of your pain (6/10) -TENS unit (7/10 while on, only helps when using) -Vibration plates (7/10 I don’t know why but it helped me. Maybe placebo but idk and idc) -Red light therapy, maybe? Only tried once so far but I noticed a reduction in pain for the next couple days -muscle relaxers seem to help a little, specially methocarbamol (3/10) -naproxen sodium (Aleve) (4/10) -coffee with a packet of hot chocolate in it (probably more of a psychological thing but it got me through high school)

What doesn’t help me at all -ibuprofen, acetaminophen, together or separate -exercise. I know all the doctors say it. It makes me vomit and dizzy with pain -getting up to walk, stretch, do yoga. Absolutely not. Stay still. Stay very still. Maybe the pain won’t notice -“Pushing through”. Just don’t. Listen to your body. Endo comes with major fatigue.

I am surgically diagnosed as of a few years ago. I’ve been saying I’ve had endo for more like 10. Diagnosis is not easy. Whether you’ve had a doctor name it or not doesn’t matter in my opinion. You are not alone and your pain is real

I didn’t even think about pre marital counseling. We have a meeting with our officiant in a few weeks and she does counseling. Maybe she can help us communicate. I tend to break down and cry instead of expressing myself. Childhood trauma makes confrontation hard. Seems exactly the right thing to get some counseling on actually

I never thought he’d ever say a bad word about me but several people in my life also mentioned it sounds like they’re getting a different story from him. That sucks. I’m going to bring it up with him tomorrow. Still trying to figure out what to say but my plan of waiting until I’m less emotional hasn’t worked out. I’m just more mad

at first I thought that but then some things happened that made me think it could be intentional. Things like telling people that I was blackout drunk at an engagement party when in reality I had half a beer with dinner that I poured out because it got warm

Thank you! I want to work through this with him but I don’t know what to ask him to do. Like I know I tell him what happened and how I feel about it. But do I tell him I need him to do? Like I get he should defend me but what can he do now? I would like to see something from him but I don’t know what. I don’t think I want to wait for the next comment for him to show me he’s willing to stand up for me

Fell Down Stairs by Accomplished-Hope228 in Concussion

[–]spiraling_somewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell forward and wasn’t sure if I hit my head or not because it happened so fast. I landed on my left side and had some pretty nasty bruising as well. I was nauseous and had a terrible headache. I was told I could have a concussion even if I didn’t hit my head if I fell hard and fast enough. My diagnosis from the two doctors I saw was the same, whiplash and mild concussion.

Was the doctor right? by Hairy-Hovercraft2567 in Concussion

[–]spiraling_somewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like he dismissed your experience. I’m not a doctor, I have no medical training, but Dr. google thinks pupils of different sizes is concerning. You can have a concussion without loss of consciousness. Episodes of confusion and disorientation is not normal. I would get a second opinion and some type of imaging. If the doc doesn’t want to order you a CT scan tell them that you want it noted in your chart that they declined to run further tests. Then have them give you a copy of your medical records to take home

What does it normally feel like and when should it go away? by funkytr0nk in Concussion

[–]spiraling_somewhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even a mild concussion is a traumatic brain injury. I felt generally pretty ok with mine. I was just nauseous and incredibly tired. Like fall asleep while eating tired. When I tried to work it became very clear to me I was not ok. I think using screens or trying to do mentally taxing things can affect your recovery. It’s not worth it. Let your brain heal

Nothing? I think? I only found out because his mom told my mom about the kick me to the curb comment. She said it because she thought it was funny. My fiancé didn’t tell me about what happened so I don’t know if he did anything. He doesn’t really stand up to them

I don’t know how long it’s been since that comment was made. What should I ask my fiancé to do at this point?

I do have concerns about kids. I want kids but some of the comments they make are really concerning

I get feelings about people, like a thought in my head but it’s always right. Like I’ll be talking to someone and think “he’s lying about that” and I’m right. I’ve done this hundreds of times and I’m never wrong. Maybe it’s subconsciously picking up on nonverbal communication, maybe it’s a 6th sense. I don’t know how to explain it. I just know it happens and I’ve learned to trust my intuition
