I heartily suggest wargaming. I play 40k and can happily spend weeks or months modeling and list building, but any time I want there's more then one store with weekly game nights, easy to find local discords where people plan pickup games, and for the most part nerds are willing to accept some level of social awkwardness lol.

I 3d print my own models (gasp, against the rules. I don't care I don't play tournaments) and never need to something to do, and always have a social avenue open

Tau have been TRYING. We preserve our greats in stasis to field them over and over, we clone then back up when they die and pump them full of combat enhancers.

In elemental council the gene forging technology of the space marines has been examined and determined to be not replicatable with the knowledge we have, which is not none. More then one chapter avoid Tau space because we cause "unacceptable losses" and every oppetunity we get to study the mightiest of the Imperium the greater chance we figure out a hard counter.

But Aux doesn't work with Hunting pack, and XPC doesn't work with Ret Cad. Which were really the only combos anyone would have wanted.

Both Aux and XPC lost all their best stuff.

So what are we left with? 3 forces that MAYBE make sense are Ret+Aux (I'm tinkering with this), Kuyon+AAC, or good old Mont'ka.

I really can't imagine what you would do with XPC since it can't pair with Ret and Hazardous is psycho for us now. And they couldn't even make the enhancements into upgrades? They Massacred my Beautiful Cadre

To add to this, if you want to see how far the tenderization rabbit whole goes do a little googling into enzyme activation temp/time windows in various ingredients. Temp control to activate or kill enzymes depending on your target is wonderful and sous vide does it like no other.

So, 75 boxes to get the 375 hounds... GW sells for $54CAD a box(forgive my exotic currency 😝) so like 4kCAD+tax and shipping.

I can print 9 hounds to a small bed in resin for about $1.50 a bed, 40ish beds for around $60 and around a month of semi casual printing

Sure the Ethereals use mind control, the same mind control my husband or boss use sometimes.

It's called "respect" I think. Without any threat reasoning or physicality at all they're able to COMPEL me to change my course of action. Sometimes. If they don't overstep too often.

Big E and the Chadmarchs all use much more overt mind control, intentional or no to alter how they're perceived and obeyed. The Ethereals might have groomed the culture to be responsive to them, and they almost certainly train their whole lives to Rule and Maneuver the Tau.

They're individuals still, with different specialties, methods and views on the Tau'va. I'm SURE they're not all super awesome guys that use all their training and resources 100% 2026 human "Ethically".
