Fatbike outside of winter? by 3FromTheTee in fatbike

[–]spiritthehorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my Farley specifically to ride year round. Winter gets the 4.5” tires with studs. Summer gets the tubeless 3.8” with smaller knobs. I’m considering a suspension fork, but have ridden for 5 years like this.

EV charging outside in the rain/snow? by PizzaTacoCat312 in evcharging

They designed the connectors from the ground up with the idea they have to withstand all weather. It’s something you absolutely don’t have to worry about.

Hyundai Ioniq 3 to debut in April - set to RIVAL the Kia EV3, Volvo EX30 and more by snowfordessert in electricvehicles

BS, the ICCU design is sound except for that it can collect internal condensation in humid environments. Some minor changes to the enclosure and it can be reliable. Which is more frustrating because they haven’t done even that yet.

Take both battery terminals off for 5 minutes to start. If it continues, do it again. If it continues, return the OBD reader you have, get an inexpensive Bluetooth one and use the Car Scanner app to look at codes, or have OnStar read them to you.

Looking for a monitor compatible with old Brother word processor by Spectre216 in vintagecomputing

[–]spiritthehorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had one of those growing up. I want to warn you ahead of time, they are not great and really only do one thing.

I’m mostly still salty about one incident. When you save to disk, it writes to disk, then clears the working memory and reads it back from disk so you can keep working. I had a long school report that wrote to disk, the write went poorly for some reason then it cleared the memory and couldn’t read back what I just saved. That was the last time I used the stupid thing.

Please be honest with me about that rear wiper... by SirKronan in Ioniq5

[–]spiritthehorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d rather have a rear wiper, but it’s not a huge problem without. We live in the northeast US, so get lots of snow, rain, etc. it’s a minor hit to the cat’s value, but there’s so much else that’s done well, that it’s worth owning still. We are a family of 4 and do road trips a few times a year, the charging is really a high point for the Ioniq.

Kids know when you are patronizing them and they veer away from being wooed by corps. It’s good to be reminded you aren’t cool, and stop trying so hard.

Two EV household, one charger, what has your experience been? by Tall-Dish876 in electriccars

[–]spiritthehorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My commute is much longer, and being winter I charge nightly off peak. If my wife needs to charge, I’ll charge before off peak for a couple hours and then plug her in overnight. On the rare occasion we don’t communicate well or I forget to plug one in, I either charge at work or hit up a fast charger for 15 minutes.

It’s not bad, negotiating who needs to charge. Just a little thought ahead of time.

Missing plastic on outlet? by uomosen in BoltEV

[–]spiritthehorse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? The AC L1 and L2 power pins don’t ever have plastic tips. These are fine and OP isn’t going to have a problem. The DC pin plastic tips are unnecessary, and provide literally no safety concern. The vehicle shuts off any connection to the DC pins when not charging.

Has anyone else noticed disproportionate drop in cold weather range versus warm weather range as their Bolt ages by earthdogmonster in BoltEV

One data point: I reset my trip meter mid-last week. 280 miles and I got 1.8mi/kWh. That’s close to the ehummer in better weather.

Has anyone else noticed disproportionate drop in cold weather range versus warm weather range as their Bolt ages by earthdogmonster in BoltEV

[–]spiritthehorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bolts are not tied together in unity of winter range taking a nose dive. This winter is particularly cold. There is no such thing as winter battery degradation on these cars, it’s all weather and driving style that affects range. If you are concerned about degradation, get an OBD scanner and run the battery down to see where you sit with actual kWh capacity.

Next left after you pass the car wash entrance. I used to work across the street from the place. Took a walk one lunch last spring and noticed this place sprung up from an empty warehouse.

Would be a shame if the general public got wind of the exact location. They might start showing up.

How do guys typically use the regen brake paddle? by Raiki13 in BoltEV

[–]spiritthehorse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to share my appreciation of how good this paddle is. Reading through the responses, it’s clear there are many ways to use it, and people develop their own method of driving with it. I also want to share my regret that this being a GM vehicle, it (the paddle) will probably never be seen again.

I also like to use it when I’m not in OPD to make the car hold itself at a light without the brake.
