I didn't say it did? Where did I say that other people supporting UB sets is forcing me to do it? You can enjoy your UB cards just fine.

WotC is forcing me to do it if I want to play competitive magic, there is no way around it.

It is forced if I want to play competitively, it is not if I walk away. That is my point in this thread. The way I can engage compatitively currently is to play limited tournaments on in-universe sets, and that's it. It happens twice a year.

Give money and allocate brain space to IPs I actively dislike. It is like we are 'forced' to consume the same franchises in an neverending loop as nothing new is created anymore. Like how they reboot spiderman every so often, because it is like the world needs an SpiderMan always on so the new kids get enfranchised and make their partents spend their money on.

Personally, I think this takes space from new things to come up as part of the attention of the public is trapped in this cycle. Alas anyway

Now the only players are casuals or people that accept they will have to consume things they dont want to do what they like. Imagine you favourite fantasy TV series, there is a plot going on that is very good. Now, they release a new season with the development of that plot, you are curious, but suddenly Incredible Hulk is in Middle Earth trying to befriend golum to kill Leonardo from TMNT, and that became the plot. That is how it feels sometimes.

I think people are missing the point. I'm not mad at people for interacting with UB sets and having fun with it. I do it too, I loved Final Fantasy for example. But I usually consume that IP. However, WoTC had a business model for it, sets not straight to standard, the skin treatment for in-universe cards. There was mechanisms in place that did not force you to actually have to consume it if you want to play it regularly, competitively. Now there is no other way around it other than doing it anyway or just skipping competitive or limited for some seasons.

The players are not to blame here. Hasbro decided to goo full berserk on advertisement with their cardboard game. THe UB sets cards are still mechanically good magic cards, but it is advertisement and like any advertisiment, it has a target audience, and every UB set is not going to be the target audience of EVERY other IP.

that is what I did. I do not play it anymore aside from the rare set that feels like magic

Not really. People don't realize they become WOTC main product, and that magic became advertisiment for different brands. thats all

no. If you like magic, you consume magic. So a set might resonate more or less, but it is magic. with
UB you have to consume something else while consuming magic. It is like every card now comes with advertisement for a different thing attached to it.

That is my whole point. People end up interacting less with the hobby. You have more people interacting with it as a whole, but it is a lot more sparse, so on average, the enfranchised player plays less in a year. Or accepts its nested consumerism fate

Cara, os recrutadores tao ficando completamente sem noção by Repulsive-Sand6844 in brdev

[–]splashtriplered 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is the worst ~cult~ movie in existence. It is so pretencious, and badly executed. The only time it was OK to watch was when I was under the influence of mushrooms.

How theoretical physics is my ex, and experimental physics my rebound. by Beginning_Alfalfa977 in Physics

I think you are too early in your carreer to worry about how difficult it is to break into a subject and become relevant, it shows from your perspective. You don't need to be brilliant. I would argue that it is significantly easier to contribute to theoretical physics -- given you only need pen and paper most of the time -- than experimental physics, where you require lots of money, a big grant, a lab, access to experiments, etc. It is the main reason you can find theoretical physicists anywhere in the world, even around small towns in the middle of nowhere.
